Dictador 12 Years Solera Ultra Premium Reserve is a Rum from Colombia, matured using the solera method in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at 40%.
The rum matures through Dictador's solera system, where rum from multiple vintages and cask types is blended in stages to achieve depth and a consistent character. Behind the rum stands Destilería Colombiana in Cartagena, founded in 1913, and the combination of bourbon and sherry casks gives this 12-year-old edition a richer, more complex profile than the house's younger expressions.
Tasting notes
Nose
Soft caramel, honey, dried seeds and lightly roasted coffee, with muscovado sugar, cherry, tobacco and leather.
Palate
Round and soft, with caramel, cocoa and honey, plus creamy spiced oak, caramel syrup and cherry.
Finish
Smoky cigar tobacco, dark bitter chocolate and espresso, with a long, soft close.
