In the town of Drumshanbo in Co. Leitrim grows the meadowsweet that, together with Chinese gunpowder tea, gives this Irish gin its distinctive, lightly smoky tea character.
Expert's description
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is an Irish gin from The Shed Distillery, bottled at 43%.
The gin is built on twelve botanicals, eight of which, including meadowsweet, cardamom, juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, orris root, caraway and star anise, are infused directly in the copper pot stills.
The remaining four botanicals, kaffir lime, oriental grapefruit, Chinese lemon and gunpowder tea, are vapor infused, preserving their volatile aromas.
The meadowsweet is harvested locally in Drumshanbo, where the distillery is based, and gives the gin a light sweetness that balances the tea's dry, green character.
