New Whisky Blogger - meet Steffen Lautrup

In this blog post, we welcome our new Whisky Blogger, Steffen Lautrup - read more about his passion for the golden drops.

Post by Steffen Lautrup It all started when I was a little boy of 12... Okay, we don't really need to go back that far. But I will start by telling you a bit about myself, where I come from, how I got into the world of whisky and my personal preferences. So let's dive in. I'm 25 years old and live in a small town called Maltbæk. Which is the perfect name for a whisky lover who likes malt whiskies. On second thought, maybe it's second only to the town called Malt... Well, let's not make a big deal out of it. I spend my day working for the Danish Defense in Varde, as I have done for the past 5 years. And to let the cat out of the bag, yes, I have been deployed and it was to Kosovo back in 2020. This is where I got talking to my Scottish colleague Richard. He educated me about Scotland and of course the water of life, whisky. He is the person who opened the doors to a whole new world, as Aladdin so beautifully sings. He introduces me to various single malts and I come home to Denmark with a renewed interest. After that, it's off I go. I buy some whiskies and introduce them to some of my closest friends and family. Most of all, I just repeat what Richard has said, because it sounded good when he said it. After a while, I get books about whisky as gifts and start reading up on it. After hammering some knowledge into my head and growing my whisky collection, I decided to start doing small private whisky tasting events. As a result, my whisky friend and I created our own little club: Club Whisky Mountain. With logo on t-shirts and glasses.
My personal collection and preferences are over in the Scottish world. I really enjoy a good Single Malt. Not to say I can't drink and enjoy a Bourbon for example, I just think my background and introduction has pushed me in the direction of Scottish Single Malt. As everyone knows, there are also different varieties of Single Malt, so here's one of my favorite distilleries, namely Arran. So far, I haven't tasted anything from there that hasn't surprised me and pleased my taste buds. I'm about to have a few and it's amazing how they get so much flavor and sharpness without being too boozy. The perfect balance! Just sitting and writing about whisky, and more specifically Arran, makes me want a little dram myself. So that's why I've poured it into the Club Whisky Mountain glass. I hope you're enjoying a little dram yourself while reading this. From me to you: Sláinte!
