By the river Osme in Aigre, where an eighteenth-century watermill still houses the cellars, the house of Gautier has distilled Cognac since Louis XV signed its royal charter in 1755. VS is the house's youngest voice, quick and fruity, yet built on the same craft as its older bottlings.

    Expert's Description

Gautier VS French Cognac is a Cognac drawn mainly from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, bottled at 40%.

The house of Gautier is one of the oldest in Cognac, founded in 1755 in the old watermill on the river Osme. As early as the sixteenth century, the Gautier family had made a name for itself as skilled coopers, crafting casks from oak sourced in the famous Tronçais forest, and that grounding in wood and cask still shapes the house's identity.

VS is built from the grape varieties Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard, sourced mainly from Grande Champagne with a share from Petite Champagne. It is the house's youngest expression, and precisely for that reason the one that shows the freshness of the fruit most clearly, before longer cask ageing adds further depth.

Gautier VS is built for versatility, just as natural neat over ice as it is as the backbone of a well-mixed Cognac cocktail, where its fruit and floral character carries through clearly.
