A Canadian bartender's winter cure grew into one of the world's best-selling spirit bottles.

    Expert description

Fireball Cinnamon & Whisky Flavour Liqueur is a Canadian-based liqueur flavoured with cinnamon, bottled at 33%. The product was originally launched in the 1980s by Seagram as one of several flavoured schnapps, with the manufacturer's own origin story crediting a Canadian bartender trying to warm up after an Arctic cold snap. In 1989, the Sazerac Company bought the rights to the formula and initially branded it Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball Whisky. In 2007 the product was rebranded to the Fireball Cinnamon Whisky most people know today, and a combination of social media, bartender-focused marketing and word of mouth sent sales from $1.9 million in 2011 to $61 million in 2013, briefly overtaking both Jameson and Patrón.
