Coleburn Blogpost by Jan Laursen

Coleburn Blog Post

Blends, who really drinks that nowadays?

Blogpost by Jan Laursen

It all started with a blend or should one say, once upon a time, because that's how the Scottish whisky industry began in the past. They used to store their whisky, and occasionally, they would blend it with some of the others from the region to create something unique. Moreover, they also used it as payment for goods until the authorities came up with the brilliant idea of imposing taxes, and that put an end to the practice. Imagine if today, with all the inflation happening in the world, we could take our good whisky under our arm, go to the grocer's to exchange it for a nice piece of beef or toilet paper if you had a bad bottling in your hands. Coleburn has long been closed, yet Murray Mcdavid has managed to enrich us with a 14-year-old blend from this distillery.

Coleburn Selection 14 Blended Whisky 40%

Nose: Sweet notes of citrus, vanilla, spicy pepper, mashed fruits.
Taste: Light and elegant citrus flavor, pleasant sweetness, mashed bananas, pears, and figs.
Finish: Elegant and deliciously balanced, full-bodied and long-lasting on the palate.
Rating: I've tasted an unimaginable number of blends that are just dull because it's the easiest thing to make, but this one isn't. It's light, elegant, and incredibly pleasant in the mouth. I would argue that this is a rather fine whisky, which is the foundation, and imagine what it could have become. Many may have tasted Coleburn when the distillery existed, but my age tells me I wasn't on that wagon. Blends don't need to be bad, and here's something you should definitely invest in.
