Ten years in cask is a long time for a calvados from the Pays d'Auge, and it shows clearly in Berneroy's XO, where the fresh apple has long since gained company from baked, darker notes.
Expert description
Berneroy XO is a French Calvados aged around ten years in fine French oak casks and bottled at 40%.
XO is the oldest and most complex expression in the Berneroy range, made from calvados with an average age of around ten years. The long ageing gives it a deeper, more layered character than VSOP and Fine, where baked apple and subtle oak notes play a bigger role. Berneroy runs its calvados house in the Pays d'Auge, where the brand traces its roots back to 1944.
Tasting notes
Nose
