Roughstock Montana Straight Rye Whiskey is the distillery's rye-based expression, bottled at 45%. RoughStock Distillery opened in Bozeman, Montana, in 2009 and was both the first legal distillery in the state since Prohibition and the first to open in Montana in over 100 years, made possible by a 2005 change in state law. The distillery was founded by fourth-generation Montanans Bryan and Kari Schultz, who mortgaged everything they owned to realise the idea that 'Montana' and 'whiskey' belonged together. Unlike most American whiskeys, RoughStock uses local Montana barley instead of corn and rye.
