Each edition in the Research Series is decorated by an artist. The artwork on the first version in the series, Stauning Curious, was created by tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard. In addition to Thit's previous designs, Stauning also chose to have her design this bottle.

So, what is Bastard? The base - the raw spirit - consists of our rye new make (70% malted rye, 30% malted barley). First, the spirit is matured in heavily charred virgin oak casks for 3 years. Then the whisky was transferred to 5 delicious Mezcal casks from Oro de Oaxaca - and 6 months later we got a Stauning Bastard. A Rye Whisky like you've never tried it before. Mexico meets Denmark. Truly a bastard.

Everything is made at the distillery using only the best raw materials and traditional production methods:

- Floor malted local barley

- Double pot still distilled - Open fire under stills
- Double pot still distilled

- Aged and matured at the distillery
- Bottled at the distillery
- Unfiltered / not cold filtered - Precipitation may occur
