Have you tried Glen Grant 28 year old whisky from Adelphi?

Review by Whisky Blogger Steven Kramme who has tasted this new Adelphi bottling

Our new blogger Steven Kramme has tasted Glen Grant 28 years from Adelphi

Post by Steven Kramme

Speyside The area is known for its many whisky distilleries. A true hotspot for this wonderful drink. One of the distilleries located here is Glen Grant. The distillery is located on the River Spey, from where they get the good water they use for their whisky.

Glen Grant is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. It was founded in 1840 by John and James Grant. It was no coincidence that this location was chosen. The easy access to the sea meant that the whisky could be shipped quickly throughout the country.

The nose:

As the whisky is poured into the glass, the first thing that hits the nose is a distinct aroma of vanilla, citrus, apricot and a hint of banana. I immediately thought of pretzels from the bakery. A hint of hazelnuts, coconut, cinnamon and oak from the dish. Really delicious and intense. There is no doubt that this is a Speyside whisky.

Palette:

You get a bit of the same here. Lots of wonderful sweetness. You are really spoiled. The alcohol is hit super well and therefore coats the mouth in a pleasant way. The flavors have been given a boost and help to intensify the whole taste experience. There is a nice tingle on the tongue, which we like.

Finish:

The whisky quietly disappears after a few minutes. It's not one of those that lingers for a long time. But it doesn't really matter, as the tasting itself is so powerful. Short but sweet.

Overall, a fantastic whisky. From start to finish. It's a whisky that can challenge even the most skilled whisky drinker and still not scare new people away. Its sweetness is amazing and it is in every way a representation of everything Speyside whisky can deliver. Complex and still straightforward.

Despite the fact that Glen Grant is an old and well-respected whisky distillery, I sometimes find that people turn their noses up at the brand. Why is that, really? I think people associate it with the brand Grantswhich makes blended whisky for most major retail chains. It's a shame because there's a world of difference.

So if you haven't tried Glen Grant yet, I'd recommend you try one of their great bottlings. And preferably with friends. Sláinte

About Adelphi:

Adelphi Never compromise Only the very best casks are good enough to make it through Adelphi's eye of the needle. When Adelphi tests around 25 casks, only one is approved to be bottled under the Adelphi name. Alex Bruce, Adelphi's manager, and renowned whisky writer Charles Maclean often sit together and test samples from offered casks from different distilleries. But they have to be truly exceptional casks to be approved by Alex and Charles. Less than 4% of casks pass the test.

Adelphi The distillery was founded in 1826 and was located on the River Clydes on the outskirts of Glasgow. The distillery closed in the early 1900s, but re-emerged as an independent bottler in 1993, when a grandson of one of the former owners started Adelphi as an independent bottler. From the beginning, Adelphi's philosophy has never been in doubt: "We only want to bottle the best"!

There are very limited quantities released on the market and they are regularly sold out. All, of course, bottled at cask strength, without color and filtration - but that goes without saying.

Adelphi, known for their fantastic bottlings and high quality. Most bottlings are in Cask Strenght. It is very limited what manager Alex Bruce and whisky expert and writer Charles Maclein approve as good enough for Adelphi to put their name to bottling the cask. The bottlings are from single casks and therefore we often only get a few bottles from the bottlings. It is with great pleasure that we can present these fantastic bottlings.

Adelphi also have their own distillery: Ardnamurchan, which is the westernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland. This is a distillery where everything is based on the philosophy of producing the ultimate high quality malt - we look forward to seeing how it develops.
