    > New Glenlivet Founder's Reserve In 2015, The Glenlivet will launch a brand new whisky in their portfolio called Glenlivet Founder's Reserve, a whisky with no age statement. It will eventually replace the popular Glenlivet 12 year old. In doing so, The Glenlivet has followed in the footsteps of a number of other producers who have also introduced a "No age statement" or NAS, as it is popularly known. And it is a necessity today, as most distilleries do not have enough older casks to meet the high demand. This is mainly due to the fact that a number of distilleries were closed in the years 1983-93, and most of those that did not close, they went down in production. They are paying for this today, as there is not much in stock from those years and what was produced has been used in blends or younger vintages. And since sales have increased significantly and faster than production over the last ten years, there is a shortage of older casks. But does this mean a poorer whisky? Not necessarily, as the understanding of both the distillation process and the ageing process has undoubtedly improved, allowing whiskies to be blended at a significantly higher level today than in the past. Instead of waiting for an exact number of years to mature, the understanding of when the whisky in different casks peaks and is ready to be blended with other casks to create a complete whisky has improved. Thus, it is therefore more up to the master blender to create his or her own style in line with the overall style of the house instead of solely controlling the blending according to age statements. The aging of TGL Founders Reserve has been done in American oak barrels as well as new bourbon barrels used only once. It is also the first time that The Glenlivet uses this type of barrel, which gives the whisky a creamy and sweet taste of vanilla in particular. Glenlivet Founder's Reserve has also just won a gold medal at the 2015 Scotch Whisky Masters. Quote: Master Distiller Alan Winchester "It has been an absolute privilege to craft a whisky in tribute to the man whose talent, dedication and vision for creating the definitively smooth single malt has led to The Glenlivet style that we know and admire today. In marrying together a selection of traditional and First Fill American oak casks from our inventory, I have been able to craft a complex whisky in The Glenlivet style with a pronounced creaminess, sweetness and smoothness that I am sure George Smith would have approved of."The Glenlivet Founders Reserve. 40%. Pernod-Ricard. Light and golden in color. Citrus and hints of orange in the aroma. Orange tones in the taste with orange peel, pear, peach, flowers and vanilla. Typical fruity style often associated with The Glenlivet . Creamy in the aftertaste. The Glenlivet The distillery is located more than 300 meters above sea level in the Cairngorms National Park. The Glenlivet is the story of passion, rebellion and pioneering spirit. In the early 1800s, there were around 200 distilleries in the area Glenlivet. The king at the time, King George IV, introduced that all distilleries had to pay taxes on their production to the royal family. This caused quite a stir among the Scottish farmers who, in addition to farming, distilled whisky for their own consumption and for sale if the production was large enough. King George had by then already developed a preference for The Glenlivet , and as the first distillery, founder George Smith was forced to apply for a license to distill whisky. George Smith was granted his license to The Glenlivet in 1824 and at the same time the right for only one 'scotch' to be called THE Glenlivet . This was a great annoyance to the other distilleries, who refused to pay taxes to the king and declared war on the king and George Smith. By 1834, the cavalry had driven all illegal distilleries out of Glenlivet, leaving George Smith as the only distiller left in the area.
