  • Sardinian bitter with orange peel and Mediterranean herbs
    Item no.: 2222786547444-8874

Years ago, when master distiller Elio Carta had to name the family's new bitter, he settled on a single promise: peace. Bitteroma is Sardinian bitterness at its most reconciling - sharp enough to wake the senses, round enough to bring a table together.

    Expert's Description

Bitteroma Silvio Carta is an Italian Bitter from Sardinia, bottled at 25.3% alcohol.

The bitter was created by master distiller Elio Carta, who named it "the bitter of peace" as a tribute to the Sardinian herbs and citrus fruits that give the drink its character. Like the rest of the family's range, it is made in Baratili San Pietro, where Silvio Carta has, since the early 1950s, been turning the island's wild plants into wine, vermouth and bitter.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

An overwhelming aroma of aromatic herbs - rosemary, thyme, sage and eucalyptus - joined by orange peel, tamarind and cloves.

    Palate

Dry yet enveloping, with a decisive and inviting taste and an incisive, pronounced bitterness.

    Finish

A very long finish of citrus peel that lingers on the palate.

  • A sweet vermouth built from coffee cherry husks and fortified wine from whisky casks.
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280161

Where others see waste, Discarded sees an opportunity. Coffee cherry's discarded husk and fortified wine that has rested in used whisky casks meet here in a sweet vermouth with a story all its own.

    Expert's Description

Discarded Sweet Cascara Vermouth is a sweet vermouth made from a fortified wine base, bottled at 21% ABV. The vermouth comes from Discarded Spirits, a project started by the Scottish family-owned drinks company William Grant & Sons, with the aim of creating spirits from ingredients that would otherwise be thrown away.

Discarded was born in 2018, when an employee at the company was handed a bag of cascara - the dried husks of coffee cherries, normally discarded during coffee production - and challenged to do something interesting with it. The solution was an infusion of cascara in neutral spirit, later blended into a fortified wine base. That fortified wine is itself a byproduct of whisky production, used to season casks before they take on whisky, and is repurposed here rather than being discarded.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe cherries and strawberries with a hint of dark chocolate.

    Palate

Sweet and fruity, with notes of red wine and a touch of fig.

    Finish

Long finish with cinnamon and a light bitter coffee note from the cascara.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972696

Where the dry style is crisp and mineral, Ferdinands' white vermouth unfolds with a softer, spicier character - shaped by months resting in old Mosel oak casks.

    Expert's Description

Ferdinands Saar White Vermouth is a German vermouth made from Riesling from the Saar valley, bottled at 18% ABV. Like its dry sibling, this vermouth is built on a distillery's own quality Riesling from the acclaimed wine region Saarburger Rausch, but here the wine takes on a different character, having been aged in old Mosel Fuder oak casks before the herbs are added.

A selected blend of regional herbs and flowers is added to the base wine, giving the vermouth its characteristic spiced yet floral style, a clear contrast to the tighter, drier expression of Ferdinands' vermouth.

South of Bordeaux, in the village of Podensac, the Lillet family has since 1872 blended local white wine with the peel of sweet and bitter oranges. The result is an aperitif that has since found a permanent place behind bars worldwide.

    Expert's Description

Lillet Blanc Vermouth is a White Vermouth from the Bordeaux region of France, made from a base of white wine from the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, with an alcohol content of 17%.

Brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet founded the house of Lillet Frères in Podensac in 1872 as wine and spirits merchants, and in 1887 they created their first aperitif under the name Kina Lillet, named after the cinchona bark that gave the drink its characteristic bitterness. The recipe is a blend of roughly 85% Bordeaux wines and 15% macerated citrus liqueurs, made from the peel of sweet oranges from Spain and Morocco and bitter oranges from Haiti. In 1986 the recipe was adjusted to the milder, sweeter style known today as Lillet Blanc, and production still takes place in Podensac.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh and crisp aromas of sweet oranges, almonds and orange peel, with a touch of wax, spicy bark, menthol and sea salt.

    Palate

Delicate and lightly sweet, carried by the white wine's acidity, with notes of white fruit, pineapple, citrus and elderflower, joined by nutmeg, cinnamon and a hint of creaminess.

    Finish

  • Noilly Prat Vermouth Dry from Marseillan France
    Item no.: 222278654231473-8015

In Marseillan, where the Mediterranean meets the Étang de Thau, oak casks have stood beneath the open sky for almost two hundred years, letting sun and salt shape the wine within. Noilly Prat Dry is the distillate of that outdoor ageing tradition that made the town famous.

    Expert's Description

Noilly Prat Vermouth Dry is a French dry vermouth from Maison Noilly Prat in Marseillan, made from white wine infused with a secret blend of herbs and spices, with an alcohol strength of 18%. The house was founded in 1813 by herbalist Joseph Noilly, who developed the recipe roughly 50 years before the Italian house of Martini, creating France's first vermouth. The wine, made from Picpoul and Clairette grapes grown in the Languedoc, undergoes the house's signature method known as L'Enclos: after eight months in Canadian oak casks, the wine is transferred to half-hogsheads of Limousin oak, where it matures outdoors beneath the open sky for up to a year, exposed to Mediterranean sun and the salt air of the Étang de Thau. The oxidative depth this creates has made Noilly Prat Dry a cornerstone of the classic Dry Martini cocktail.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is dry and saline, with chamomile, gentian and a hint of orange peel.

    Palate

The palate is crisp and herbaceous, with notes of bitter herbs, citrus and a light nutty tone.

    Finish

The finish is dry and refreshing, with a lingering, light bitterness.

  • Martini Rosato Vermouth from Turin Italy
    Item no.: 222278654231473-8012

In the glass, the colour unfolds like a sunset over the hills of Piedmont – a gentle pink that hides cloves, cinnamon and a distant scent of roses. Martini Rosato is vermouth's answer to spring, set against a backdrop of heavier, sweeter wines.

    Expert's Description

Martini Rosato Vermouth is an Italian vermouth from Martini & Rossi in Turin, made from a base of white and red wine infused with natural herbs and spices, with an alcohol strength of 15%. The house of Martini & Rossi was founded in 1863 by Alessandro Martini, Teofilo Sola and Luigi Rossi, who took over an existing wine business in Pessione outside Turin and turned vermouth into an international success. Martini Rosato was introduced in the early 1980s as the only expression in the Martini range to combine both white and red wine, and the product gained particular momentum when it launched in the United Kingdom in 2007 amid the growing popularity of rosé wine.

The vermouth is spiced with a botanical blend that includes cloves from Madagascar, cinnamon from Sri Lanka and nutmeg, while a touch of raspberry, lemon and rose gives it its characteristic pink colour and soft, aromatic style.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma recalls mulled wine, with clove, cinnamon, aniseed and black pepper, layered with dried herbs and a hint of rose.

    Palate

On the palate it's soft and spiced with floral sweetness, where rose and woodland notes intertwine with a light bitterness.

    Finish

    Item no.: 222278654231473-8007

In Chambéry, white wine meets orange peel, elderflower and mountain pine, and the result is a vermouth that manages to feel both substantial and light at once.

    Expert's Description

Dolin French Blanc Vermouth is a White Vermouth from Chambéry in Savoie, made from white wine and flavoured with more than 30 alpine herbs, with an alcohol content of 16%.

It follows the same recipe the house of Dolin has used since 1821, when Joseph Chavasse settled in Chambéry and began infusing local white wine with alpine plants and spices. The Sevez family, who have owned and run the house since 1919, still hold to this traditional method through several generations. The Blanc style differs from the house's dry vermouth with a gentler sweetness and a broader range of citrus and floral notes, drawn from the same alpine herbs that grow around Chambéry, a town that in 1932 received France's only protected designation of origin for vermouth.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Rich orange citrus aromas and a light toffee-like sweetness, joined by almonds, orange peel and spicy bark with a touch of menthol and pine forest.

    Palate

Delicate and lightly sweet, balanced by the white wine's acidity, with notes of pear, pineapple, citrus and elderflower alongside a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Finish

A well-balanced finish between bitter, sweet and acidic, with lasting notes of elderflower and citrus peel.

    Item no.: 222278654231473-8006

Above Chambéry the Alps rise into thin mountain air, and up among the rocks hyssop, wormwood and juniper stand soaking up sun through the short summer. Every glass of Dolin Vermouth Rouge carries an echo of those mountains.

    Expert's Description

Dolin Vermouth Rouge is a Red Vermouth from Chambéry in Savoie, made from white wine of the Ugni Blanc grape and flavoured with 30-40 alpine herbs, with an alcohol content of 16%.

Dolin was founded in 1821 by Joseph Chavasse, who had already been running a liqueur distillery near Mont Blanc since 1815. Inspired by the aperitifs of Turin, he created a new vermouth with a secret recipe, infusing Savoie white wine with hyssop, wormwood, juniper and a long list of other alpine herbs. In 1843 Louis-Ferdinand Dolin married into the family and gave his name to the house, and since 1919 the Sevez family, who still own and run the business, have carried the tradition forward through several generations. The Rouge style stands apart from the house's other vermouths through its deep amber-red colour and fuller, spicier character, even though the base remains the same white wine from the Ugni Blanc grape.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fruit compote, prune and walnut, with a hint of fresh grass, spiced with cinnamon, vanilla and szechuan pepper, alongside fresh herbs such as thyme and rosemary and a touch of orange peel.

    Palate

Almond, citrus, pear and violet, carried by herbal notes of wormwood and chamomile, a mild honeyed sweetness and a light bitterness from gentian root, rounded off by ripe stone fruit such as apricot.

    Finish

Long and pleasantly dry, with lingering herbal notes, a light peppery spice and a hint of tannic, tea-leaf-like grip that closes clean and refreshing.

In the hilly landscape of Terra Alta, south of the Ebro river, where the Mediterranean sun bakes the old vineyards, lies the small town of Batea. Here La Madre is born, named after the mother herself, a tribute to the family traditions and herbal knowledge passed down through generations. Every bottle carries that warmth and authenticity forward.

    Expert's Description

La Madre Vermouth Rose is a Spanish Rosé Vermouth with 16% alcohol, created by oenologist Josep Maria Castillo in the town of Batea in the Terra Alta region south of Tarragona. The vermouth is made as a small, family-run project, where 32 different botanicals - 22 of them native to the region - are macerated in ceramic amphorae before the wine is added.

The base wine is a blend of white and red grape varieties from Terra Alta, and the pink colour comes from a careful composition of herbs, berries and spices rather than added colouring. The result is a vermouth that combines Mediterranean warmth with a distinct handcrafted character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Intense aromas of strawberry and liquorice meet citrus peel, cinnamon and a hint of sweet calamus root, giving the nose a rich and aromatic character.

    Palate

A rich, velvety texture unfolds with sweet notes of aniseed and strawberry, before the flavour turns gently bitter from wormwood and orange peel.

    Finish

The finish keeps its freshness and holds a fine balance between sweetness and bitterness, with orange peel and wormwood lingering long after.
