Two landscapes, one Scottish and one Swedish, meet in a single glass. The Sandebud is Adelphi's own experiment: a blended malt where a spirit from their own Ardnamurchan distillery marries a spirit from Sweden's High Coast.

    The Expert's Description

The Sandebud by Adelphi is a Blended Malt Whisky combining Ardnamurchan and High Coast, bottled at 58.9%.

Adelphi owns the Ardnamurchan distillery, the westernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland, and with The Sandebud has paired a spirit from there with a spirit from Sweden's High Coast. The result is an unusual fusion that bridges two landscapes and two distilling traditions in one bottle.

The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and with 1,136 bottles it is the most accessible of Adelphi's special series, without compromising the cask-strength intensity the bottler is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

A combination of freshly cut oak and a hint of smoke, hinting at the two spirits' different origins.

    Palate

Full-bodied and complex with caramel, malt and a light salty, maritime undercurrent that ties the two styles together.

    Finish

Long and warm with a dry, smoky close that lingers for a good while.

Frequently asked questions about The Sandebud by Adelphi

How does The Sandebud by Adelphi taste?

It tastes full-bodied and complex with caramel, malt and a light salty, maritime undercurrent, closing on a dry, smoky finish. The two spirits' different origins are clearly felt in the glass.

What is a blended malt whisky?

A blended malt is composed entirely of single malt spirits from several distilleries, unlike a standard blended whisky, which may also contain grain whisky. The Sandebud blends spirit from Ardnamurchan and High Coast.

Why does Adelphi own a Scottish distillery?

Adelphi was originally an independent bottler, but in recent years returned to its roots and opened its own distillery, Ardnamurchan, due to strong global demand for quality single malt.

Is this whisky worth the money?

Yes, the unusual fusion of two spirits and Adelphi's strict quality standards make it an interesting and relatively accessible part of the bottler's range.

    How should I serve it?

Neat in a nosing glass, ideally with a few drops of water to open up the smoky and maritime notes.

    Where is Ardnamurchan distillery located?

On the Ardnamurchan peninsula, the westernmost point of the Scottish mainland, where the distillery is built on the philosophy of producing the highest quality malt possible.
