Mac-Talla is Gaelic for echo and refers to the fact that the family's long history resonates across the island. The island Islay with its long tradition of whisky offers great experiences shaped by the elements. The three whiskies in the series are named after the island's elements - Terra (earth), Mara (sea), Strata (rock). Mara means sea. The sea, with its strong salty winds, has a major influence on the distinctive whiskies from the island. Mac-Talla Mara is bottled at full cask strength and is as raw and unforgiving as nature Islay. Mara has a light golden glow. It smells strongly of campfire with a touch of citrus peel. The intense smoky flavor is characterized by meat from the grill and burnt oak. The long, strong finish is a treat for peat heads . The story behind the Morrison family's work at Islay begins with whiskey merchant William Walker in the 1930s. Stanley P. Morrison began his apprenticeship at T. William Walker & Co. By 1951 it was time to strike out on his own and he set up his own whisky company 'Stanley P Morrison Ltd', working with many of the well-known blended whisky producers. In 1963, he bought Islay's oldest whisky distillery Bowmore (now owned by Suntory). Today, Stanley's son and grandson run the company behind Mac-Talla, which naturally belongs at Islay.
