Isle of Arran Distillery After an absence of more than 150 years, legal distilling returned to the island Arran in 1995 when the Isle of Arran distillery distilled the first drops at 2.29pm on June 29, 1995. The last legal distillery on Arran closed in 1836. The uncommonly beautiful distillery Arran is located in the village of Lochranza on the north-western tip of Arran and remains the only distillery on the island. The whisky from the distillery is matured on the distillery's own grounds in a unique setting. The climate at Arran speeds up the maturation process and the whisky from Arran is considered to be the fastest developing whisky in all of Scotland. This is said to be due to the warm Gulf Stream that passes through the distillery's warehouses. The water for the distillery comes from Loch na Davie bran, the purest natural spring in all of Scotland. The whisky from the distillery is bottled without cold treatment and filtration, and no colour of any kind is added. It is the raw drops developed from the pure nature of the island Arran.Arran distillery remains one of the few privately owned distilleries in Scotland. It is run by a highly experienced team of three. Headed by distillery manager James MacTaggart, who has over 30 years' experience in whisky production, the distillery has been repeatedly recognized as a dynamic force in the Scotch whisky industry since 1995. In 2007, Arran was named 'Scottish Distiller of the Year' by Whisky Magazine. In 2005 the distillery won the "The Queens Award for Enterprise", the largest and most important business honor in the UK.The first spirit ran from the stills at the Isle of Arran Distillery at 14.29 on 29th June 1995, bringing legal distillation to Arran after more than 150 years. The distillery , nestled in the foothills of the village of Lochranza on the north -west tip of Arran, remains the only whisky producer on the island.
Double distilled from unpeated malt, the Arran Single Malt is matured in both ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks for perfect balance. The result is a fuller bodied dram with a delightful sweet fruity character that shows maturity far beyond its years. As a proudly independent Scottish company we do not add any artificial coloring to our Single Malt Scotch Whisky and do not chill-filter at the bottling stage.
