  • Remy Martin VSOP Vintage bottle 1 French Fine Champagne Cognac 70 cl 40%
    Item no.: 5297-5588

Behind the faded label and heavy glass stopper, this bottle carries a piece of another era. It's a Rémy Martin V.S.O.P., bottled long before the house's current packaging came to define its shelf presence – a small window into the story of Cognac's most famous export.

    Expert Description

Rémy Martin V.S.O.P. is a French Cognac bottled in the 1980s on French oak casks at 40%. The bottle belongs to the Fine Champagne Cognac category, meaning it's distilled exclusively from grapes grown in Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne – the two finest crus in the Cognac region.

The label carries the German text "Französisches Erzeugnis," suggesting this particular bottle was originally destined for the German export market. Its dark, oval neck label and gold lettering are typical of Rémy Martin's packaging before the house modernized its look.

The cognac is a blend of eaux-de-vie, composed by the cellar master from Limousin oak casks of varying ages. Unlike whisky, cognac doesn't continue developing once bottled, so the character inside is essentially unchanged since the day it was filled.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla, ripe apricot and a touch of baked apple, with a little more patina than a newer bottling.

    Palate

Rounded and layered, with stone fruit, a hint of liquorice and warm oak spice.

    Finish

Soft and long, with toasted nuts and a last trace of vanilla.

    Specifications

    Bottled: 1980s

    Flavour Profile

    Fruity · Vanilla-sweet · Oak-aged · Smooth

    Investment Potential

Medium. This is a discontinued bottling with an older label design that's sought after by collectors, and since cognac doesn't evolve further in the bottle, the contents remain stable regardless of age. Value depends heavily on fill level and label condition, though.

The German text on the label is a small clue to this bottle's journey – many Rémy Martin bottles from this era were filled specifically for export markets like Germany, with local language requirements printed directly onto the French label.

  • Bottle of A. de Fussigny Vintage 1968 Cognac with golden liquid and classic label
    Item no.: 22227865491-27

The year 1968 saw student riots sweep across France, and the grapes behind this Cognac were harvested that same restless summer. The spirit has since rested in oak for longer than most of us have been alive, a liquid time capsule from Grande Champagne.

    Expert's Description

    A. de Fussigny Vintage 1968 is a French Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 43%.

The house of A. de Fussigny was founded in the 19th century by an Italian merchant with a clear ambition: to craft Cognac of the very highest quality for Europe's finest hotels and restaurants. In 2008, Patrick and Jean-Dominic took over the reins after more than 20 years each in the Cognac trade, and they have carried the founder's philosophy forward through careful grape selection and patient, unhurried ageing.

Grande Champagne is the chalkiest and finest of Cognac's six cru areas, and it is here that the longest-lived eaux-de-vie are distilled. A vintage Cognac like this one is not a blend of several harvests but a single distillate from 1968, allowed to mature for decades without being married to younger spirit.

Decades on oak have given the Cognac its deep, rancio-driven character, the kind only the oldest vintages achieve, where fresh fruit recedes in favour of spiced wood and an almost oxidised, sherry-like complexity.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried fig, orange peel and a whisper of old leather open the glass, carried by a gentle rancio note and faint tobacco.

    Palate

The palate is dark and spiced, with dark honey, toasted almonds and cedar, while a light bitter orange note keeps the sweetness in check.

    Finish

The finish is long and dry, with lingering spice and a final trace of orange oil.

    Investment Potential

As one of the oldest vintage Cognacs in the range, A. de Fussigny Vintage 1968 carries a medium to high investment potential. Single-vintage Cognac from before 1970 grows scarcer by the year, and comparably old Grande Champagne vintages often change hands at auction for well above their original release price.

    Did You Know?

When the grapes for this Cognac were harvested in 1968, the Cognac region had not yet felt the Asian demand boom that would transform the industry decades later, meaning the 1968 vintage was laid down at a time when a small house like A. de Fussigny measured itself purely on quality rather than volume.

  • Bottle of ABK6 Millesime 1985 Cognac with matching set of Cognac glasses
    Item no.: 22227865491-508

Only 2820 bottles exist of this vintage, and every one of them was born on the same soil where the grapes were harvested in 1985 and the Cognac finally bottled thirty years later in 2015. From grape to bottle, the entire journey has taken place within the boundaries of a single estate.

    Expert's Description

ABK6 Millesime 1985 Vintage Single Estate is a French Cognac, distilled in 1985 and bottled in 2015, at 40%.

The Cognac comes from Domaines Francis Abécassis, a house that stands apart from most others in the Cognac region by growing, distilling, ageing and bottling its entire range on its own land. Francis Abécassis moved to Cognac in the early 2000s and built his house around exactly this single-estate idea, rather than buying eaux-de-vie from a wide network of independent growers, as most houses do.

This particular vintage comes from just six small casks in the house's so-called paradise cellar, where the most treasured eaux-de-vie rest. Three decades on oak have given the Cognac a complex, mature profile, far removed from the house's younger, fresher releases.

The bottle also comes with a set of 10 Cognac glasses, making it a natural centrepiece when a rare vintage is shared among friends.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Floral notes meet dried fruit, cedar and a hint of orange peel.

    Palate

The palate offers pepper, quince and caramelised tones, balanced by gentle oak spice and ripe dates.

    Finish

Long and harmonious, with lingering warmth, hazelnut and a final touch of oak.

  • Bottle of Castarède 1939 vintage Armagnac with back label and dark liquid
    Item no.: 22227865493-352

1939 was the year Europe went to war again. As the world held its breath, the grapes for this Armagnac were harvested and distilled in Gascony, unaware the bottle would not be filled until 67 years later, in 2006.

    Expert's Description

Castarède 1939 Vintage Appellation is a French Bas-Armagnac, distilled in 1939 and bottled in 2006, at 40%.

The house of Castarède was founded in 1832, making it the oldest trading house in the entire Armagnac region. Across six generations, the family has curated one of France's most extensive archives of vintage Armagnac, with bottles dating back to 1893.

This 1939 vintage was distilled in Bas Armagnac, the finest of the district's three production zones, and matured in oak for 67 years before being bottled in 2006. Every bottle carries a back label guaranteeing its vintage and bottling date.

The 67 years of cask contact have given the Armagnac a depth and an integrated sweetness found only in the very oldest vintages, setting it markedly apart from the district's younger, more fruit-driven releases.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried apricot, old leather and a deep rancio tone.

    Palate

Integrated sweetness meets spiced oak, tobacco and a hint of prune.

    Finish

Very long and warm, with lingering wood notes and a trace of dark honey.

    Investment Potential

As one of the oldest vintages in the range, Castarède 1939 carries a high investment potential. Did You Know?

When this Armagnac was distilled in 1939, Castarède had already been a trading house for over a hundred years, and the family continued its work of harvesting and distilling grapes even as the Second World War broke out later that same year.

As German troops marched into France in the summer of 1940, the harvest in Gascony carried on as it always had. The grapes were picked, pressed and distilled, with no one then knowing the bottle would not be filled until 66 years later.

    Expert's Description

Castarède 1940 Vintage Appellation is a French Bas-Armagnac, distilled in 1940 and bottled in 2006, at 40%.

The house of Castarède was founded in 1832 and is the oldest trading house in the entire Armagnac region, run across six generations by the same family. Its archive of vintage Armagnac is among the most extensive in France, with bottles dating back to 1893.

This 1940 vintage was distilled in Bas Armagnac and matured for 66 years in oak before being bottled in 2006. Every bottle carries a back label documenting both the distillation and bottling years.

The many decades on cask have given the Armagnac a deep, integrated character, where the freshness of a young spirit has long since given way to a calm, mature complexity.

    Did You Know?

Despite the outbreak of war in 1940, the Castarède family continued distilling using the same methods as always, meaning this bottle is at its core a distillate from one of the most turbulent years in modern European history.

In 2007, this bottle was named the world's best brandy at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, an award that put Château de Laubade and the entire Armagnac category firmly on the international spirits map.

    Expert's Description

Château de Laubade Bas Armagnac Intemporel No 5 is a French Bas-Armagnac, bottled at 40%.

Intemporel No 5 is the house's oldest and most ambitious release in the Intemporel range, made primarily from the Baco grape, of which Château de Laubade holds the largest production in the entire Armagnac region. The Baco grape lends the Armagnac a distinctive peppery spice and a hint of smoke that few other grapes in the region can match.

Château de Laubade was restored from ruin in 1974 by Jean-Jacques Lesgourgues and has since established itself as one of the district's very finest estates, including the title World Class Distillery at the World Spirits Award three years running.

The oak casks used for No 5 come from the house's own cooperage, where Gascony oak is air-dried for at least three years, a process that gives the casks an unusual character from the very first filling.

    Tasting Notes

    Item no.: 22276-1972803

There's something about an old bottle that no new one can fake. This one has travelled from Jarnac to Hamburg and on into a Danish collection, and the label still carries the fading and creases of decades spent being held up to the light.

    Expert description

Courvoisier Luxe Cognac is a French Cognac from Jarnac in the heart of the Cognac region, bottled at 40%. This "Luxe" 3 Star bottling dates from an era when Courvoisier still marketed itself under the royal warrant "By Appointment to the Late King George VI" – a reference to the British court that the house was permitted to carry in its branding for decades. The bottle was imported into Germany by Charles Hosie in Hamburg, a detail that tells its own story about the Cognac's journey from the French cellars out into Europe. Courvoisier is one of the so-called big four Cognac houses and has, since its founding in 1809, cultivated a soft and approachable style that sets it apart from some of the more angular, powerful houses in the region. The Cognac is blended from several crus around Jarnac and matured in French oak casks in the house's own cellars, which gives it the rounded, elegant profile the house is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe apples and plums meet a touch of dry oak spice, a combination often found in older Cognac-based bottlings.

    Palate

Round and soft, with stone fruit sweetness balanced by a light, spiced oak warmth.

    Finish

Mild and elegant, without sharp edges – a finish that matches the house's well-known, approachable style.

    Flavour Profile

    Fruity · Soft · Elegant · Oak-Spiced

    Investment Potential

High. This is a discontinued vintage bottling carrying the historic royal warrant along with a clear import provenance, both of which appeal to collectors of old Cognac bottlings. Comparable Courvoisier Luxe 3 Star bottles from the same era are trading today well above what a modern standard bottle would cost, and interest in vintage Cognac with this kind of historic labelling has been growing among collectors.

    Did You Know?

Courvoisier is the only one of the big four Cognac houses ever officially permitted to use the imperial "N" in its marketing – a legacy of the brand's supposed connection to Napoleon Bonaparte, who is said to have taken the Cognac with him into exile.

Please note: This bottle is sold as a collector's item. The quality of the contents cannot be guaranteed, and the bottle itself may show scuffs and scratches – see the photo.

    Item no.: 22227865493-1002-17

One small domaine, one single vintage, one story of soil and weather from 1987 alone. That is how the Darroze family works - they do not buy cognac or armagnac in bulk, they seek out the finest farms and let each place speak for itself.

    Expert's Description

Darroze Domaine de La Poste 1987 is a French Bas-Armagnac, 33 years old, bottled at cask strength of 49%.

Behind the bottle stands Maison Darroze from Roquefort in the Landes, a house that since the early 1900s has specialised in seeking out small, independent domaines across Bas-Armagnac, Ténarèze and Haut-Armagnac and bottling their spirit as single vintages under its own name, rather than blending them together.

Domaine de La Poste 1987 is made from 100% Ugni Blanc and bottled at cask strength without reduction, giving an armagnac with full power and an immediate expression of that particular domaine and vintage.

  • Bottle of Drouet Paradis de Famille cognac with deep dark liquid
    Item no.: 22227865491-745

In many Cognac houses there is a room called le paradis - the place where the very oldest casks are left in peace, far from the bustle of the rest of the cellar. Drouet Paradis de Famille is drawn from exactly there, from the house's own collection of its most patient vintages.

    Expert's Description

Drouet Paradis de Famille Hors D'Age is a French Cognac from Grande Champagne, between 25 and 30 years old and bottled at 42%.

The cognac comes from Cognac Drouet, the family house that has run its estate at the heart of Grande Champagne since 1848, and which in 1969 was taken over by Monique and Gérard Drouet, parents of the house's current generation.

The term Hors D'Age is used for cognac so old that it is no longer given a precise age statement, and is instead simply recognised as being beyond the usual. Paradis de Famille is made from 100% Grande Champagne grapes and represents one of the most complex expressions in the house's collection.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is a wall of aroma with apricot, fig, vanilla and oak.

    Palate

The palate is pronounced and grape-sweet with vanilla and fruit, with countless nuances rolling through the mouth.

    Finish

The finish is dense and nuanced, where the spices eventually take over and linger on and on.

  • Bottle of Fundador Old Version brandy with dark golden colour and classic Spanish label
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19728043192

In Jerez de la Frontera, where the Andalusian sun beats down on whitewashed bodega walls, the Domecq family has aged brandy by the same principle for close to three centuries. Fundador Old Version carries that legacy forward, cask by cask, vintage by vintage.

    Expert's Description

Fundador Old Version Pedro Domecq is a Spanish Brandy matured through the solera method in ex-sherry casks of American oak, bottled at 38.5%.

The house of Pedro Domecq traces its roots back to 1730, when the Irish merchant Patrick Murphy founded a bodega in Jerez de la Frontera. Roughly a century later, the French wine trader Pedro Domecq Lembeye took over the business and gave it his name, and in 1874 the house created Fundador, the first Spanish brandy ever marketed under the name Brandy de Jerez.

The brandy matures in the same bodegas that hold Jerez's famous sherry, moving through a solera system of stacked casks where young brandy gradually absorbs character from older vintages before it is finally drawn from the bottom row. It is a slow process that gives Fundador Old Version its rounded, dark character.

The Old Version bottling is a nod to the house's classic style, the way it tasted long before Fundador conquered the international market. It shows the brandy without ornament, just craft, time and the damp bodega walls that mark the wood, year after year.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried figs and walnut meet a sherry sweetness from the casks, backed by caramel and a faint oxidative, nutty edge.

    Palate

A wave of raisin and caramelised sugar, with a touch of dark chocolate, spiced oak and orange peel.

    Finish

Long and warm, with notes of dried fruit before a last trace of sherry oak slowly fades.

In Châteaubernard, at the heart of Grande Champagne, the Brisson family has farmed and distilled on its own land for five generations. Excellence is the bottling allowed to wait the longest, a Cognac without hurry, shaped by time rather than output.

    Expert's Description

Gilles Brisson Grande Champagne Excellence is a 1er Cru French Cognac from 100% Grande Champagne, at least 30 years old, bottled at 40%.

The Brisson family owns 75 hectares in Grande Champagne, Cognac's most celebrated cru, and Cyril Brisson has led the estate since 1989. The philosophy is simple: perfection takes time, so the house ages its Cognacs well beyond the legal minimum, allowing the full aromatic intensity and silky texture that Grande Champagne is famous for.

Excellence is the house's oldest standard bottling, an expression of how far the family is willing to go for quality over volume. It is not sold to large distribution chains, only to specialist shops and restaurants that understand the value of a Cognac allowed to mature for decades.

    Tasting Notes

    Expert's Description

Gourry de Chadeville X.O. 400th Anniversary 1er Cru French Cognac is a Cognac from Grande Champagne, up to 35 years old, bottled at 40%.

Gourry de Chadeville, the world's oldest Cognac house founded in 1619, bottled this XO for the house's 400th anniversary in 2019. The blend is built from eaux-de-vie aged up to 35 years in Limousin oak, without caramel colouring or other additives common elsewhere in the industry.

  • Bottle of Little Brown Dog Petit Chien Brun single cask French brandy with Fleur-de-Lis label
    Item no.: 222333-798766

Six weeks. That is all that stood between this cask and its 32nd birthday. But at Little Brown Dog, they did not wait — some casks have nothing to gain from holding back any longer, only something to lose.

    Expert's Description

Little Brown Dog Petit Chien Brun 31 Year Old is a French Brandy, Single Cask, distilled in 1993 and bottled at 50.8%.

The spirit was distilled on 30 November 1993 and laid down in cask that same day in France. The cask was later moved to Scotland, where it was bottled by the independent bottler Little Brown Dog Spirits on 17 October 2025 — just six weeks short of reaching 32 years in cask. Because bottling took place outside France, the bottle cannot carry the name Cognac, even though it is distilled and matured exactly as a Grande Champagne Cognac would be.

This release is a sister cask to Little Brown Dog's earlier Early Landed Late Bottled series of vintage French brandies, in which the spirit is distilled and matured in France before being moved to Scotland for the final stage of ageing. Only 210 bottles have been drawn from this single cask, in natural colour, with no added caramel colouring and no chill filtration.

Little Brown Dog Spirits is an independent bottler and micro-distillery based in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland, founded in 2018 by Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid. The French distillery the spirit originally came from has not been disclosed.

In the glass, the brandy shows a dark, fruit-forward colour that many describe as reminiscent of the well-known British drink Vimto — deep and inviting to look at.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers blackcurrant juice, prune juice and dried heather — dark and fruity from the very first sniff.

    Palate

The palate unfolds classic French notes: Pruneaux d'Agen, the celebrated French prunes, wild strawberry jam and marrons glacés, all carried on a silky, mature texture.

    Finish

The finish leaves dark chocolate-coated cherries that linger long on the palate.

    Investment Potential

Rating: Medium. Releases like this one, with a very small outturn from a single cask and a solid age, typically attract strong interest from collectors of French oak-aged spirits. As bottles become harder to find, rare single cask releases from respected independent bottlers like this are often seen trading at a marked premium over their original release price on the secondary market.

    Did You Know?

Did you know that the label pays tribute to the two earlier releases in the same series? The French racing blue from the first release is combined with the Fleur-de-Lis motif from the second — a visual nod to France, where this brandy was originally distilled, and to the old Auld Alliance between Scotland and France.

  • Bottle of Martell Cordon Bleu XO French Cognac with royal blue label
    Item no.: 22227865491-43

Monte Carlo, 1912. At the Hôtel de Paris, Edouard Martell presented a new Cognac to the city's elite, named and designed with a nod to the coveted prize for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic. Cordon Bleu was born, and more than a century on it still stands as one of Martell's most celebrated names.

    Expert's Description

Martell Cordon Bleu XO is a French Cognac classified Cordon Bleu, bottled at 40%.

Cordon Bleu was created in 1912 by Edouard Martell, great-grandson of house founder Jean Martell, and launched at the legendary Hôtel de Paris in Monaco. In Martell's own hierarchy, Cordon Bleu sits between VSOP and XO, though it is marketed today alongside the house's XO editions due to its depth and maturity. It was also the first Cognac the house launched after the phylloxera crisis had devastated large parts of France's vineyards, and it is regarded as one of the earliest exclusive Cognacs aimed at a broader international market.

The blend combines eaux-de-vie from both Grande Champagne and Borderies, where the finesse and ageing potential of Grande Champagne meet the characteristic softness and floral aroma of Borderies, a signature of Martell since 1715.

The casks are made from the fine-grained Tronçais oak that Martell favours for its slow, gentle release of flavour during the extended ageing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Rich and mature, with dried fruit, a touch of honey and a light floral undertone that hints at the long cask maturation.

    Palate

Soft and rounded, with notes of apricot and walnut, spiced with a hint of vanilla and a touch of oak.

    Finish

Long and elegant, where the dried fruit returns alongside a warm, woody sweetness.

  • Bottle of Martell XO French Cognac with deep golden copper colour
    Item no.: 22227865491-45

The longer a Cognac is allowed to rest in cask, the deeper its colour and character become. In Martell XO, the deep copper glow is visible proof of years of patient ageing, where the finesse of Grande Champagne has slowly woven itself into the house's classic Borderies style.

    Expert's Description

Martell XO is a French Cognac classified XO, bottled at 40%.

Martell was founded in 1715 by Jean Martell and has since made the Borderies cru its trademark, alongside a softness and floral character rarely found elsewhere in the region. In the XO edition, Borderies is joined by eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne, whose chalky soil provides the extra finesse and ageing potential a Cognac of this age requires.

The XO classification is one of Cognac's oldest designations and signals that the spirit has drawn influence from substantial cask maturation. It is precisely this long ageing that gives Martell XO its deep, golden copper colour and its layered, complex character.

The casks are made from the fine-grained Tronçais oak Martell has favoured for generations, as it allows the eaux-de-vie to mature slowly without being dominated by the wood.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma opens with dried fruit and honey, gradually giving way to sweeter fruit notes and a touch of spice.

    Palate

Full and round, with layers of honey, dried apricot and a warm, woody spiciness reminiscent of sandalwood.

In Saint-Martial-sur-Né, at the heart of Grande Champagne's chalky soil, the Trijol family has been distilling since 1859. Dry Collection Batch 01 is the house's take on a dry, uncompromising Cognac style, bottled in a run so limited that every bottle feels like a small piece of this family history.

    Expert's Description

Maxime Trijol Dry Collection Batch 01 Very Old is a French Cognac from Grande Champagne, classified Very Old and bottled at 43%.

The house of Maxime Trijol was founded in 1859, when the Trijol family settled in Saint-Martial-sur-Né at the heart of Grande Champagne, the cru regarded as Cognac's finest. The family were originally winegrowers, but over time expanded into independent distillation, and the house is run today by the sixth generation. For production, Maxime Trijol relies on 22 copper stills of 2,500 litres each.

The chalky soil of Grande Champagne gives eaux-de-vie exceptional finesse and an unusually strong ageing potential, exactly the qualities the Dry Collection range is built to highlight. Batch 01 is the first release in the series and comes in a limited run of only 770 bottles.

The Very Old classification sits at the mature end of Cognac's age scale, and the name Dry Collection reflects the house's ambition for a dry, less sweet style, where the oak's spice and the fruit's concentration stand out more clearly.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dry and elegant, with dried apricot, a hint of tobacco leaf and a lightly spiced undertone from the oak.

    Palate

  • Dark cognac bottle with golden label and wooden gift box from Pierre Ferrand
    Item no.: 222-196655

Every night, an invisible share of the cognac slips away from the casks resting in the quiet cellars at Angeac. The French call it la part des anges, the angels' share, and at Pierre Ferrand it has been given its own name on a bottle: Selection Des Anges, the cognac the angels themselves would have chosen.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Selection Des Anges 1er Cru de Cognac is a Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 40%.

Pierre Ferrand is the house behind the bottle, established in its modern form in 1989 when Alexandre Gabriel took over Château de Bonbonnet just outside the town of Cognac and made it the centre of his production. Gabriel built on ten generations of winegrowing and distilling knowledge in Grande Champagne, the smallest and chalkiest of Cognac's districts, and the 1er Cru de Cognac designation is the house's promise that the grapes come exclusively from there.

Selection Des Anges is composed of selected, mature cognacs drawn from the house's cellars, chosen for depth and concentration rather than for a stated age. The name points to the portion of cognac that seeps out through the oak year after year and becomes the distinctive scent hanging over the cellars at Angeac, a reminder that nothing in cognac comes for free.

The bottle arrives in a gift box and suits the evenings where a dark, mature cognac is meant to stand alone in the glass and fill a whole room with its scent.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Saffron and fresh ginger meet sweet walnuts in syrup, while a base of cedar wood gives the whole aroma weight and calm.

    Palate

On the palate the cognac is dark and concentrated, carrying the same saffron and spiced ginger, supported by a sweet walnut character and a dry, woody undercurrent from the cedar.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, where the spice slowly gives way to cedar wood and a light sweetness that lingers well after the last sip.

A decanter like this is never cast in a hurry. It is shaped, cut and polished until it is just as worthy of the table as the cognac it will one day hold - Pierre Ferrand Selection Des Anges, now in a bottle built to last.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Selection Des Anges Carafe 1er Cru de Cognac is a Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 41.8% and presented in a hand-finished decanter.

The cognac inside is the same blend that gave the house's Selection Des Anges its name, a reference to la part des anges, the portion of cognac that seeps out through the oak in the cellars at Angeac year after year. Pierre Ferrand, rooted at Château de Bonbonnet and drawing on ten generations of winegrowing in Grande Champagne, chose to give this particular bottling a vessel that matches the weight of what is inside.

Where the standard bottle sits at 40%, the decanter is filled at a slightly higher 41.8%, giving a touch more intensity in the glass. The decanter itself is meant as a collector's piece in its own right, with a heavy base and a faceted body that catches the light as the cognac is poured.

The bottle arrives in a gift box and suits the moments that call for something more than a standard label.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma opens with spiced saffron and ginger, beneath which sits a layer of sweet walnuts in syrup and a calm undercurrent of cedar wood.

    Palate

The palate is full and slightly more forceful than the standard bottling, with saffron and ginger leading, supported by walnut sweetness and a dry, woody core.

    Finish

The finish is long, warm and spiced, with cedar wood lingering longest and leaving a dry, elegant dryness on the palate.

Remy Martin Louis XIII is a French Cognac exclusively from Grande Champagne, bottled at 40%, where the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend is at least 35 years old.

The bottle itself is a story in its own right. The hand-blown Baccarat crystal decanter is shaped after an old pewter flask a local farmer found in the ground near Jarnac in 1850, a relic from the battle fought on the same site in 1569. Remy Martin had the design recreated, and every decanter for Louis XIII has since been a handmade original.

Behind it lies one of the most ambitious blends found anywhere in Cognac. Up to 1,200 different eaux-de-vie, all from Grande Champagne, have been gathered by generations of cellar masters. The average tasting age sits around 50 years, and the oldest drops in the blend were distilled as far back as the late 1800s.

The result is a Cognac of rare depth, where every glass carries decades, in some cases nearly a century, of patient ageing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is intense and multi-layered, with walnut, jasmine, iris and violet, spiced with a touch of saffron and nutmeg, and underneath it all a whisper of cigar leaf.

    Palate

The palate unfolds slowly with notes of passionfruit and rose, deep and complex in a way rarely found in a bottle of Cognac.

    Finish

The finish is unusually long and deep, where the floral tones and a hint of candied fruit linger long after the glass is empty.

    Investment Potential

The assessment is High. Its extreme rarity, the nearly hundred-year-old eaux-de-vie in the blend, and the hand-numbered Baccarat decanters make Louis XIII one of the most sought-after names among collectors, and the bottle often trades for several times its original price at auction.

  • Bottle of Remy Martin XO Excellence Cognac with mahogany-toned liquid and golden label
    Item no.: 22227865491-1

Somewhere beneath Cognac, more than three hundred different distillates rest side by side, each carrying its own age and its own story, until the cellar master gathers them into a single bottle. Ripe fig, candied orange and fresh-baked bread meet here in a mahogany-toned glass, heavy with decades of patience.

    Expert's Description

Remy Martin XO Excellence is a French Cognac of the Fine Champagne category, bottled at 40%. Behind the label sits a blend of more than three hundred different eaux-de-vie, each aged between 17 and 37 years, gathered by the house's cellar master into one coherent experience.

Remy Martin was founded in 1724 in the town of Cognac and remains the only major Cognac house that uses exclusively Fine Champagne Cognac across its range, a self-imposed standard stricter than the law technically requires.

Fine Champagne is a protected designation within Cognac and has nothing to do with the sparkling wine from the Champagne region further north. The name comes from an old French term for open plain, and it covers a blend of eaux-de-vie from the two finest growth areas, Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, with a minimum of half coming from Grande Champagne. The chalky limestone soil of these two areas gives the grapes, typically Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard, a finesse the rest of the Cognac region struggles to match.

In XO Excellence, the long ageing shows clearly. The colour is a light mahogany with amber hues, and every glass carries a distillate where decades of cask ageing have left their mark without ever letting the fruit disappear beneath the wood.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers ripe figs, candied orange and juicy plums, spiced with a touch of ginger and the scent of freshly baked bread straight from the oven.

    Palate

The palate is complex yet soft, layering ripe fruit, warm spice and a calm note of oak that ties everything together without ever taking over.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, where spice and lightly toasted wood linger while the fruit slowly fades.

  • Bottle of Renault Imperial XO Carte d'Argent Cognac with ornate label
    Item no.: 22227865491-603

In the wider story of Cognac, the Russian imperial court played a surprisingly large role: from the nineteenth century onward, the Tsar's household imported large quantities of Cognac from the Charente, and several old houses began using the word Imperial as a mark of quality. Renault Imperial XO Carte d'Argent carries that same note of grandeur, a Cognac conceived as something beyond the house's standard XO.

    Expert's Description

Renault Imperial XO Carte d'Argent French Cognac is an XO Imperial Cognac from the house of Renault, bottled at 40%.

The Imperial designation has historically been used by several major Cognac houses to mark a Cognac above the standard level, a legacy of the nineteenth century's substantial exports to the Russian imperial court and other European royal houses, where Cognac was a highly sought-after luxury. At Renault, Imperial XO Carte d'Argent is a further development of the house's classic Carte d'Argent style, carrying even more time and body.

The house of Renault was founded in 1835 by Jean-Antonin Renault in the town of Cognac and was known for breaking with tradition, both by bottling in glass and by exporting early to Scandinavia from 1855.

The result is an old Cognac with plenty of body and fullness, where the Imperial name signals the house's take on a grander version of the classic Carte d'Argent style.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Broad and rich, with honey-roasted almond, old leather binding and a sweet, ripe fruitiness.

    Palate

Full and silky, with caramelised sugar, dried raisins and a warm spiciness that spreads slowly.

    Finish

Long and round, with a final trace of honey and toasted oak.

  • Bottle of Roullet XO Royal Fins Bois Cognac with deep copper-coloured spirit
    Item no.: 22227865491-534

While Grande Champagne often gets all the attention, Fins Bois holds another side of the Cognac district – rounder, faster maturing, but with plenty of room for a house like Roullet to let time finish the rest of the work.

    Expert's Description

Roullet XO Royal Appellation Fins Bois Contrôlée is a French Cognac from Fins Bois, bottled at 40%.

Roullet holds more than 140 hectares of its own vineyards in Fins Bois, the zone that surrounds the district's two finest crus, and the house has farmed this land since 1772. Fins Bois yields a rounder, less acidic base wine than Grande Champagne, which in turn matures faster – a trait well suited to long XO ageing.

XO requires at least 10 years of ageing under current AOC rules, but this Royal bottling rests a minimum of 15 years in oak casks, gradually taking on colour and depth from the wood.

The result is a rich, golden-copper cognac with amber highlights, where the melted tannins have had time to become fully rounded, and where the long ageing gives a fullness reaching well beyond the minimum requirement for XO.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and dried fruit sit over notes of nuts, almond and a touch of dried apricot.

    Palate

Full-bodied and rounded, with melted tannins carrying a sweetness of caramelised fruit and lightly toasted wood.

    Finish

Long and warm, with a final trace of orange peel that ties the dried fruit notes together.

  • Bottle of Tesseron Lot No. 53 rare Cognac with deep amber colour
    Item no.: 22227865491-34

Some bottles need a story. This one needs a single name: Robert Parker, who gave Tesseron's legendary Lot 29 from 1929 a full 100 points and called it the most ethereal cognac he had ever tasted – and who later returned to the house's cellars to keep tasting.

    Expert's Description

Tesseron Lot No. 53 is an XO Perfection Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 40%.

The Tesseron family, which founded its cognac house in 1905, is among the few families in the district still holding onto old vintage reserves that have never been diluted with water or manipulated in any way. Lot No. 53 is one of these reserves, and critics have described it as sitting close to the quality of the legendary Lot 29 – only in a darker, silkier expression with a complex aromatic profile that, according to Robert Parker, "can fill a room."

Wine Enthusiast has highlighted a nose of oak and nut paste with fruity notes of berries, dried fruit, plums, pears and soft cheese, while the palate is described as composed, succulent and honeyed, developing caramel, rancio and orange rind toward a deep, refined and mature finish.

As a Grande Champagne XO Perfection, Lot No. 53 represents the very top of the house's philosophy of releasing only "XO and beyond" – rare reserves available only in limited numbers.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Oak and nut paste, with fruity notes of berries, dried fruit, plum and pear.

    Palate

Composed and succulent, honeyed at midpalate with caramel, rancio and orange rind.

    Finish

Deep, refined and long, with a mature, almost silky close.

  • Bottle of Tesseron Tresor Grande Champagne Cognac with deep amber colour
    Item no.: 22227865491-1199

Cognac Tesseron follows one simple principle governing everything the house makes: only XO and beyond. Not as a marketing line, but because the family has for generations held onto some of the district's oldest, most valuable reserves.

    Expert's Description

Tesseron Tresor is a Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 40%.

The house was founded by Abel Tesseron in 1905 with vineyards in both Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, and from the ancestral Domaine Tesseron between the towns of Cognac and Angoulême the family sold its distillates to the large cognac houses for decades. It was not until 2003 that Tesseron began bottling under its own name – after building a reputation as one of the district's most respected suppliers of old, unblended distillate.

Tresor is composed of eaux-de-vie from Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard, which have rested for more than three generations in Limousin oak casks in the family's cellars.

The Tesseron family also owns Château Pontet-Canet, a Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac from the famous 1855 classification, underlining how closely the house's identity is tied to both cognac and French wine culture at the very highest level.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe fruit and a distinct, well-established wood tone.

    Palate
