  • Old Grand Mac Straight Bourbon Whiskey Vintage Bottle 70 cl 40%
    Item no.: 059788-96321

A bearded man in a wide-brimmed hat stares out from a red ribbon banner, flanked by the words "Grand Old Mac" - a name invented for a saloon that never stood anywhere in the American West, only in the imagination of a German importer's marketing department.

    Expert's Description

Grand Old Mac Straight Bourbon Whiskey is an American Straight Bourbon Whiskey matured in charred white oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The neck seal reads "Over 6 Years," and the label states it was distilled and aged under United States government supervision - Product of USA. But the reverse label carries a second, quieter line: "Ausländisches Erzeugnis in Deutschland fertiggestellt," meaning the bottling itself was finished in Germany. This points to a whole genre of mid-century bourbon that isn't much talked about today: American whiskey shipped in bulk to Germany and bottled locally under invented cowboy brand names for a German audience hungry for a taste of the Wild West.

The distillery behind the liquid is not stated on the label and appears to be lost to history - Grand Old Mac was distributed by Freiherr von Waldenfels Spirituosen-Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, based in Köln-Junkersdorf, a company that has since disappeared from the German business register. What's left is the bottle itself: a small, stubborn piece of postwar drinking culture, marketed as "Very Smooth and Very Mild" and meant to be mixed into "all popular mixers, in cocktails or straight," as the original English-language back label puts it.

    Specifications

Name: Grand Old Mac Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bottler: Freiherr von Waldenfels Spirituosen-Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH
    Country: USA
    Type: Straight Bourbon Whiskey
    Age: Over 6 years
    ABV: 40%
    Size: 70 CL
Cask type: Charred white oak casks

    Investment Potential

Medium. Grand Old Mac is a discontinued, distillery-unidentified export bottling with a genuinely obscure production history, which gives it real appeal among collectors of vintage American whiskey ephemera and Wild-West-themed European bar memorabilia - a niche but persistent corner of the collector market.

    Did You Know?

The German back label doesn't just translate the American one - it adds a line the U.S. version never needed: a confirmation that the bourbon was "finished" on German soil, a legal formality from an era when a great deal of American whiskey crossed the Atlantic in bulk before ever seeing a label.

  • Campari Bitter 1970ies Vintage Bottle 2 Italy 70 cl 25%
    Item no.: 222479-778965

Some bottles never get opened, yet they still carry a story every time they land on a shelf. This is one of them — an old, sealed bottle of Campari Bitter, pulled from an era when cocktail recipes were printed straight onto the label, and when "Ausländisches Erzeugnis" was the stamp that told German consumers they were holding the real Italian thing.

    Expert's Description

This Campari Bitter is an Italian herb-based aperitif liqueur from Davide Campari Milano, bottled at 25% ABV for the German export market, most likely during the 1960s or 1970s.

The bottle carries the older label reading "Fratelli Campari Successori" and "Davide Campari Milano," and the back of the label prints four classic serving suggestions in German — Campari with soda, Campari with orange juice, Campari on the rocks, and Campari Shakerato. Beneath the cap sits a gold-trimmed foil reading "Davide Campari Milano," a detail typical of Italian export bottlings from that period.

Distribution to the German market was handled by Campari Deutschland GmbH in Munich, clearly stated on the label alongside the era's German import mark, "Ausländisches Erzeugnis." The cap is the old metal screw type, and the bottle appears to be an original, unopened vintage example.

The recipe behind Campari has stayed largely unchanged since Gaspare Campari first put it together in Milan in 1860 — an infusion of herbs, fruit peels, and spices, with only a handful of people at the company knowing the full formula.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Bitter orange peel, quinine bark, and a faint caramel sweetness woven through herbal, slightly medicinal notes.

    Palate

A firm quinine bitterness balanced by sweetness and a sharp citrus core, with hints of rhubarb, juniper, and a spicy warmth underneath.

    Finish

Long and bitter, trailing off with orange peel and a dry, herbal edge.

    Specifications

    Name: Campari Bitter Vintage 1970s
    Distillery: Davide Campari Milano
    Region/Country: Milan, Italy
    Type: Italian Bitter Liqueur
    ABV: 25%
Serving Suggestion: A classic in a Negroni, Campari Soda, or Americano — also good served neat over ice with an orange slice.

Campari's original red colour came from carmine dye, extracted from crushed cochineal insects — a practice the brand only dropped in favour of artificial colouring in 2006.

  • Seagrams Seven Crown American Blended Whiskey Vintage Bottle 2 US 175 cl 40%
    Item no.: 059763-687959

There was a time when almost every American home bar had a bottle like this one standing out in the open, not tucked away, ready to pour straight from the neck thanks to its built-in spout. Seagram's Seven Crown was the everyday whiskey people reached for without thinking twice, and this oversized bottle was practically the symbol of that habit.

    The Expert's Description

Seagram's Seven Crown is an American Blended Whiskey bottled at 40%, here in the large 1.75 litre format with a carrying handle and built-in pourer, a bottle that was as much a piece of bar furniture as it was a whiskey.

Seven Crown was created by Joseph E. Seagram & Sons and grew into one of the best-selling whiskey brands in American history, with sales peaking at around 32 million cases a year in the early 1970s. It is a blended whiskey, combining a smaller share of straight whiskey with neutral grain spirit, a style built for easy, uncomplicated drinking rather than sipping complexity. The label still carries the old crest with the crown and the line "Distillers since 1857", a nod to the Seagram name's Canadian origins, long before the brand became an American household fixture.

Bottles like this one were sold by the millions for home use and bar service in the decades after the Second World War, and the handle-and-pourer format was built specifically for pouring straight from the bottle without any fuss. Today it is the kind of bottle collectors look for more for the history and design than for what's left inside.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Soft brown sugar and a touch of vanilla meet a mild grainy sweetness, with no sharp edges.

    Palate

Round and lightly sweet, with caramel and a hint of honey carried by a mellow grain character.

    Finish

Short and warm, with a last trace of vanilla that fades quickly.

    Did You Know?

The built-in pourer set into the neck wasn't just a novelty — it was designed so you could pour straight from the oversized 1.75 litre bottle without a separate stopper or decanting into something smaller, exactly the kind of practical detail that made Seven Crown a fixture of the American home bar.

  • Hallers S.R.S. Special Reserve Stock American Blended Whiskey Vintage Bottle US 175 cl 43%
    Item no.: 059763-611954

Some bottles never tell the whole story themselves. Half the label on this one has peeled away, the rest has yellowed behind decades on some bar shelf, and yet the name Haller's S.R.S. still peers out through the cracks – an echo from an America that poured its whiskey out of half-gallon jugs and never thought twice about it.

    The Expert's Description

Haller's S.R.S. Special Reserve Stock is an American Blended Whisky bottled at 43%. Behind the name sits the now-defunct brand W.A. Haller Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and according to the original label, the whiskey is made up of 30% straight whiskies with a stated age of 8 years, blended with 70% grain neutral spirits – a completely ordinary recipe for the budget and bar blends of its era, where the goal was a smooth, easy-drinking whiskey rather than a complex sipping experience.

The bottle is a Half Gallon at 175 cl, a size that was common on the American market through the 1960s and 70s, when a larger bottle simply meant better value for the home bar or the local watering hole. The glass's base markings and the absence of a barcode point to a bottling from roughly that period. Haller's S.R.S. is discontinued today, and the brand changed hands between several different American producers over the decades, which makes it hard to say with certainty which distillery stands behind this particular bottle.

The label carries a small crowned coat of arms reading "Duke of Haller" alongside the year 1894 – a classic marketing trick from the golden age of American whiskey, when brands would borrow noble symbols and invented lineages to lend an ordinary blend a veneer of tradition and prestige.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Soft and fairly neutral, with a touch of grain and a mild sweetness, typical for a blend built on a high share of neutral spirit.

    Palate

Round and lightly sweet, without sharp edges – several people who have tasted older bottles of Haller's S.R.S. describe it as surprisingly smooth and well suited to a classic Manhattan.

    Finish

Short and mild, with a faint grain and caramel note that fades quickly.

    Did You Know?

The small crowned emblem at the top of the label reading "Duke of Haller" was a common trick in the American whiskey industry in the early 1900s: brands invented a noble past for themselves to seem more exclusive, even when the whiskey behind the label was an entirely ordinary blend made for everyday drinking.

  • Der Gute Pott Echter Westindien 1960ies Vintage Bottle Rum 70 cl 54%
    Item no.: 2265481-35896

Flensburg's harbour once smelled of molasses and wet oak casks – the town was Northern Germany's centre of the rum trade, and ships sailed out for sugarcane and came home laden with rum. That's the air this bottle comes from: a Pott, likely from the 1960s, from an era when the name was synonymous with tea, punch bowls and an entire postwar generation of Germans.

    The Expert's Description

Der Gute Pott 54% is a German rum blend from the trading house H.H. Pott in Flensburg, bottled at 54%.

"Verschnitt" is the German term for a rum assembled from imported overseas rum – in Pott's case rooted in a Jamaican-style profile – then cut down to drinking strength on German soil. The bottle itself even states that it's a foreign product reduced to drinking strength in Germany. The company was founded in 1848 by the sea captain and merchant Hans Hinrich Pott, whose thoroughness and expertise earned him the nickname "Der Gute" – the Good One. The name was registered as a trademark in 1923, and after the Second World War it became the best-selling rum brand in West Germany.

This bottle is an older run of the 54% expression, which the house has always marketed as the stronger of its two standard strengths – built for more than sipping neat. The back label itself recommends it for tea, rum pot preserves, mulled punch and flambéing, and that's still the role this rum plays in German kitchens today.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Warm amber and dark molasses, with a hint of the punch you'd associate with a robust Jamaican-style rum.

    Palate

Full and round, with a complex sweetness that clearly carries the character of the overseas rum behind the blend.

    Finish

Warming and slightly spirituous, better suited to punch, baking and flambéed dishes than to sipping neat.

Pott was such a postwar success that in 1965 the company opened its own distillery on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten, to produce the overseas rum behind the blend itself – a plant that ran right up until the 1980s.

  • Kessler American Blended Whiskey Vintage Bottle US 175 cl 40%
    Item no.: 059763-687952

In the 1870s, a young Julius Kessler travelled from saloon to saloon in the mining town of Leadville, Colorado, selling his own whiskey out of his own hands. He sold more than anyone else of his time, and the name stayed on the bottle for well over a century afterwards.

    The Expert's Description

Kessler American Blended Whiskey is an American Blended Whiskey built on neutral grain spirit and matured straight whiskies, bottled at 40%.

The brand was founded in 1888 and quickly earned a reputation as an easy-drinking, gentle whiskey under the slogan "Smooth as Silk" – Kessler's own description of his whiskey, and one the brand has carried on the label since the end of Prohibition. In 1935 Kessler became part of Seagram, and this particular 1.75-litre bottle carries the marks of that era: the label shows Julius Kessler's portrait and facsimile signature alongside a horse-drawn stagecoach in front of a small mountain town, while the cap still bears an old paper excise strip marked "Export". The bottle was filled across three different Seagram plants – Lawrenceburg in Indiana, Dundalk in Maryland and San Francisco in California – the way large American producers of the era spread production across several sites.

The blend itself is a classic American blended whiskey: mostly neutral grain spirit, with straight whiskies aged at least a couple of years blended in, and it's exactly that combination that gives the brand its light, "silky" style. After Seagram, the brand has changed hands several times and today sits with Suntory Global Spirits.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe apples and baking spice meet a touch of liquorice and a light caramel sweetness.

    Palate

Soft and round, with caramel, vanilla and a streak of citrus peel, carried on a light, dry spirit character.

    Finish

Short to medium, spiced and slightly leathery, without any heavy cask influence.

  • Monnet V.S.O.P. Grande Fine Cognac Vintage Bottle France 70 cl 40%
    Item no.: 22206-173355

On the back label sits a small hand-coloured map of the Cognac region, split into its six districts, and a signature that looks like something a grandfather would have signed under an old promissory note. It is the kind of bottle that still carries a faint scent of another era the moment you pick it up.

    The Expert's Description

Monnet Grande Fine Cognac V.S.O.P. is a French Cognac matured in Limousin oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The house of Monnet was founded in 1838 by a group of winegrowers in the Cognac region, and the Monnet name arrived in 1897, when Jean-Gabriel Monnet took charge and chose a golden salamander as his emblem – the creature said, in legend, to survive the flames, much like a cognac's heart cut survives the heat of distillation. This bottle's label still carries that salamander alongside the words "Fondée 1838".

What makes this particular bottle interesting is the German importer's name printed on the back label: Weinbrennerei Scharlachberg of Bingen am Rhein. In 1960, Scharlachberg bought a majority stake in J.G. Monnet, and this bottle dates from the period when the German distillery brought Monnet's cognac to the German market under the words "Französisches Erzeugnis". Labels like this went out of production long ago, making the bottle as much a piece of trading history as a cognac.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Spiced vanilla and dried fruit, with a hint of leather and a touch of honey behind it.

    Palate

Rich and rounded, with nougat, toasted nuts and a warm sweetness reminiscent of caramelised sugar.

    Finish

The salamander on the label is no accident. King Francis I of France, born in the town of Cognac in 1494, used a fire-breathing salamander as his own personal emblem, and Monnet borrowed the symbol when the house chose its emblem in 1838.

  • Napoleon Carte Noire V.S.O.P. First Class Brandy Vintage Bottle Brandy 100 cl 40%
    Item no.: 22206-193356

Some bottles have already lived a whole life before anyone opens them. This is one of those – dark green glass, a black label worn thin by decades of dust and handling, and a "Napoleon" that has almost faded away completely. It's the kind of bottle you find at the back of a cabinet and just know means something.

    The Expert's Description

Napoleon Carte Noire V.S.O.P. First Class Brandy is a Brandy in the classic V.S.O.P. quality tier, marked with the Napoleon designation on the label.

V.S.O.P. stands for Very Superior Old Pale and is one of the oldest quality classifications in the brandy world, originally introduced to separate the better brandies from younger, rougher spirits. The Napoleon designation sits somewhere between V.S.O.P. and X.O. on the quality ladder and is traditionally used for brandy that has spent a little longer in cask than the V.S.O.P. requirement calls for. The name is a nod to Napoleon Bonaparte, who was reportedly fond of a good brandy, and it has since become one of the most widely used quality terms on bottles of this kind across Europe.

The bottle's dark green glass and black label with looping script are typical of brandy bottles from the middle of the last century, when dark, understated labels were a status symbol in their own right rather than flashy gold print. Over time, the lettering on this particular bottle has faded so much that large parts of the text can no longer be read – which in itself says something about how long it has been sitting somewhere.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Without an opened bottle and verified sources we can't guarantee the exact aromas – but V.S.O.P. brandy of this type typically offers dried fruit, caramel and a touch of vanilla from cask ageing.

    Palate

Expect a round, gently sweet palate with notes of raisin and lightly toasted wood, characteristic of Napoleon-graded brandy.

    Finish

Soft and warming, with a dry, wood-toned finish.

    Specifications

Name: Napoleon Carte Noire V.S.O.P. First Class Brandy
    Type: Brandy
    Size: 100 CL
Serving suggestion: Serve at room temperature in a brandy or cognac glass, ideally with a few drops of water to open up the aromas

    Did You Know?

The Napoleon designation on a brandy bottle isn't a legally regulated age statement the way V.S.O.P. or X.O. are – it's an unofficial quality term producers have used since the 1800s to signal a slightly older, finer brandy than standard V.S.O.P.

    Item no.: 25481-78111150

There's something about the old Pirat label, the golden sailing ship, and the heavy, dust-covered bottle that still speaks of a bygone era in Danish spirits history. Blackcurrants picked in the Danish summer were pressed and blended with genuine Jamaica rum by one of Odense's oldest spirits houses — a recipe that today belongs firmly to the past.

    Expert's Description

Pirat Solbærrom is a Danish Fruit Liqueur made from freshly pressed blackcurrant juice and genuine Jamaica rum, bottled at 21.5%. The bottle comes from Vingaarden A/S in Odense, a spirits house with roots stretching back to 1895, when it began life as Odense Vin Kompagni. The company took the name Vingaarden A/S in 1962, and for much of the 20th century it held the title of supplier to the Royal Danish Court — a distinction still printed on this very label. Vingaarden A/S no longer exists as an independent company; it became part of the Swedish V&S Group in 2003 and later Pernod Ricard, and production under the Pirat name ended long ago.

Blackcurrant rum liqueurs were a fixture of the Danish drinks cabinet for decades, and Pirat Solbærrom was blended to bring out both the fresh blackcurrants and the full-bodied rum. Colouring (E150) was added to give the liqueur its deep, dark hue, a common practice in production of that era. The cap carries the text "For Export Only" beneath a crown emblem, marking this particular bottle as one intended for export markets rather than ordinary domestic retail.

    Taste

The nose offers ripe, dark blackcurrants with a touch of tartness, quickly followed by the warmth of the rum and a hint of caramel from the colouring. The palate is sweet and berry-driven with a round, gently spiced rum undertone, finishing soft and lingeringly sweet in the style of classic Danish dessert liqueurs.

  • Himmlische Cognac Himbeeren L.W.C. Michelsen Vintage Bottle no 13 German Fruit Liqueur 500g
    Item no.: 2265481-789441

Some labels lose their shine and gain a story instead. This one is gold-toned card gone soft with age, guarded by two lions circling a crest that still spells out Michelsen.

    Expert's description

Himmlische Cognac Himbeeren is a German Fruit Liqueur from L.W.C. Michelsen in Hamburg, made from ripe raspberries steeped in aged cognac and a sweet raspberry liqueur. This bottle is an older edition of a product still made by the company today, though under an entirely different label design – this particular version, with its red gothic script and royal lion crest, has been discontinued and now only turns up with collectors. Michelsen was founded in 1814 and is run today by the seventh generation of the same family, and the raspberry-in-cognac recipe grew out of the company's long tradition of steeping fruit in spirits, a tradition that started with the classic German rumtopf and branched out into fruit-and-liqueur combinations. The sweetness comes from a mix of invert sugar syrup and the fruit's own natural sugars, while the cognac and brandy add a warm, faintly burning base beneath the fresh raspberry.

    Taste

The nose is full of ripe raspberry with a warm hint of brandy underneath. The taste opens sweet and fruity, almost like preserved berries, before the cognac's depth and a mild woody bitterness settle in behind it. The finish is soft and slightly syrupy-sweet, with one last trace of warming alcohol.

  • Dujardin Imperial 1810 Weinbrand Vintage Bottle 4 German Brandy 70 cl 38%
    Item no.: 2265481-58972

There's something different about a bottle like this one — it doesn't look like it came off a shelf, it looks like a piece of German-French history with a cork in it. The wax seal is chipped, the gold foil has faded, but the name still stands as proudly as it did in 1810.

    Expert description

Dujardin Imperial is a German brandy — known in German as Weinbrand — aged in Limousin oak casks and bottled at 38%.

The story begins under Napoleon. The Melcher family had been distilling grain spirit in Uerdingen on the Rhine since 1780, but in 1810 they started importing wine from the winemaking Dujardin family at Château des Mérigots in Charente and distilling it into what was, at the time, called cognac. The partnership grew so close that Dujardin became the company name. After the First World War, the Treaty of Versailles banned German producers from using the term cognac, so Dujardin was sold instead as Deutscher Weinbrand — German brandy — with the recipe unchanged. Between the wars the company grew into Germany's largest brandy producer, with its own rail link and its own quay on the Rhine.

This particular bottle is an older release from the Imperial line, predating the brand's major 2004 redesign that gave the label its current, more streamlined look. It sits somewhere between an everyday bottle and a small piece of distilling history — solid craftsmanship rather than a rare one-off.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Soft and honeyed, with a hint of orange peel and dried fig, carried by a light spice from the oak.

    Palate

Round and mellow, caramel and nuts at the centre, with a warm, wine-like base that still hints at the French grapes it started life as.

    Finish

Short to medium, dry at the edges of its soft sweetness, with a last touch of oak and spice.

    Item no.: 2265481-781247

It sits on the shelf like a puzzle with no signature — a clear bottle wrapped in a gold-stamped monogram and a single word: Aquavit. No distillery name, no vintage year, just a label from an era when design carried as much weight as what was inside.

    Expert description

This bottle is an Aquavit whose origin cannot be read from the label. The centrepiece is a stylised gold monogram — a sweeping, calligraphic line curling around a vertical form, framed top and bottom by a tight geometric border. The lettering in the word "Aquavit" is bold and unmistakably retro, a style that typically points to the mid-20th century, though without further source material the exact period can't be confirmed.

Because neither the distillery, the bottler nor the producer can be identified from the image, this bottle is treated as an unidentified collector's item. That mystery is precisely what makes it interesting to a collector — a bottle with no clear answer, where tracing its origin becomes part of the experience.

  • Mekhong Thai Spirit แม่โขง Vintage Bottle 70 cl 38%
    Item no.: 2265481-781257

There's something about a golden label, a red flame pattern and a gilded warrior seal that makes a collector's ears prick up. This bottle is both a time capsule and a riddle for any whisky lover — Thailand's own answer to a dark spirit, brewed from sugarcane, glutinous rice and a secret blend of herbs that few outside Thailand ever get to taste.

    The Expert's Description

Mekhong Thai Spirit is a Thai spirit distilled from sugarcane and rice, bottled at 35%.

The spirit was first produced in 1941 at the Sura Bang Yikhan distillery on the Bangyikhan canal in Bangkok — Thailand's very first spirits factory. Its name comes from a wave of patriotic sentiment, when Thailand pushed to reclaim territory from French Indochina along the Mekong River, and a popular song about the river gave the new spirit its name. Mekhong quickly became a source of national pride, replacing much of the imported whisky that had until then dominated Thai bars.

The production method remains the same closely guarded secret, passed down through generations: sugarcane molasses and glutinous rice are fermented and distilled, then the spirit is flavoured with a secret blend of Thai herbs and spices. The excise stamp on this particular bottle is dated 26 April 2000, making it an older bottling from before Mekhong's current international packaging.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet sugarcane molasses and brown sugar meet a faint trace of rice, with a spiced lift of ginger and star anise.

    Palate

Soft and warming on the tongue, where the cane and rice carry a distinct herbal character alongside chilli, cinnamon and a touch of vanilla.

    Finish

Long and warming, with a herbal note that slowly settles into a mild, sweet close.

  • Sandeman Cream Sherry Oloroso Vintage Bottle Spain 70 cl 18%
    Item no.: 22211-197278

Some bottles have travelled further than most. This one has made its way from sun-soaked vineyards in Jerez to an old wine merchant in Hamburg, and the label still carries the marks of that journey. A bottle with patina, not polish.

    Expert's Description

Sandeman Cream Sherry Oloroso is a fortified wine from Jerez, Spain, with an alcohol content of 18%. Sandeman is one of the most respected names in both Port and Sherry, founded in London in 1790 by the young Scotsman George Sandeman, who borrowed £300 from his father to start a wine trading business with goods from Porto and Jerez.

This bottle is an older edition of the house's classic Cream Sherry, imported at the time to the German market by Charles Hosie GmbH in Hamburg. The label references "By Appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," a mark Sandeman carried for many years as a supplier to the British royal household. The Cream Sherry Oloroso style typically starts as a dry-fermented Oloroso base, into which a sweeter Pedro Ximénez sherry is blended to add colour, body and sweetness. The result is a dark, oxidatively aged fortified wine, far removed from the light, fresh style of Fino and Manzanilla.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Deep and complex, with notes of roasted nuts, raisin and a touch of caramel. Beneath the sweetness sits a hint of wood and old leather, typical of oxidatively aged sherries.

    Palate

Full and soft on the palate, with dried fruit, walnut and a creamy sweetness from the Pedro Ximénez addition. The texture is thick, almost syrupy.

    Finish

Long and warm, leaning towards dark chocolate and roasted almonds.

    Serving & Food Pairing

Best served at 10-12°C in a small sherry glass that gathers the aromas. Decanting is not necessary. Cream Sherry Oloroso pairs naturally with blue cheese, dark chocolate or a simple caramel-based dessert. As an older collector's bottle, we recommend checking the condition of the cork and liquid before opening it to drink.

  • La Tondeña Añejo 5 year old Vintage Flaske La Tondena Distillers Inc Philippine Rum 75 cl 40%
    Item no.: 22227865-7893

In the Tondo district of Manila once stood the distillery that supplied much of the Philippines with rum made from molasses rather than the traditional nipa palm sap. Añejo simply means "aged" in Spanish, and that's exactly what this bottle delivers — dark rum, rested in wood, in a country where the heat pushes maturation along faster than almost anywhere else on earth.

    Expert Description

La Tondeña Añejo 5 Year Rum is a Philippine rum aged in oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from La Tondeña, founded in 1902 by Chinese immigrant Carlos T. Palanca Sr. in the Tondo district of Manila. The distillery was the first in the Philippines to produce alcohol from molasses instead of the local nipa palm sap, and Añejo Rum became for decades one of the country's most widely sold rum brands. In 2003 the company renamed itself Ginebra San Miguel, and the original La Tondeña labelling disappeared from shelves — this bottle predates that name change.

The rum is a blend of selected, older rum distillates rested in oak casks, giving it the soft, dark style Philippine rum is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet aromas of caramel and brown sugar, with a hint of coconut and a touch of ripe banana in the background.

    Palate

Soft and sweet with caramel, vanilla and a light note of orange peel that cuts through the heavier sugarcane character.

    Finish

Long and slightly sticky, with cinnamon and a last trace of orange lingering.

    Item no.: 2265-99778

There's something about an old spirits bottle from Hamburg's harbour district that speaks straight to the imagination. Dark glass, a faded label with a sun in orange and gold, and a name that once sat on the shelves of thirteen shops across the city.

    Expert Description

Niebuhrs Daiquiri is a German Fruit Liqueur based on West Indian rum and fresh lemon juice, bottled at 30%.

The bottle comes from the Sonnendrink line, produced by the long-established Hamburg company Helene Niebuhr Wwe., founded in 1907 as a wine and spirits trading house on St. Pauli. The label spells it out plainly: Limón, Ron, Azucar - lemon, rum and sugar, blended and ready to pour as a Longdrink, no shaker, no fuss.

Niebuhrs Daiquiri was once one of the company's well-known products, standing alongside the Bullerjan Doppelkorn and the herbal liqueur Blankeneser Steife Brise. Today only those last two remain in the company's range. Niebuhrs Daiquiri has long since been discontinued, and the bottle now lives on as a piece of Hamburg spirits history for collectors.

    Taste

With no original bottle left to taste, it's the label's own words that guide the picture: fresh, pure lemon juice would have given a sharp, tart edge, while the West Indian rum laid a round, sweet base underneath. The sugar tied it all together into the classic Daiquiri balance of sour and sweet the drink borrows its name from. The nose would have leaned toward citrus peel and warm cane sugar syrup, with a short, refreshing finish built for drinking cold rather than sipping slowly.

  • Larsen Cognac Three Stars Vintage Bottle French Fine Champagne Cognac 35 cl 40%
    Item no.: 5297-3369874

There's something about an old Cognac label that can't be faked — the patina in the gold foil, the slight curl in the paper, the three stars that once told the buyer exactly what he was getting. This bottle travelled from Cognac, France, to Hamburg, where it was bottled by a trading house that closed its doors more than 25 years ago.

    Expert Description

Larsen Cognac Three Stars is a French Cognac bottled at 40%.

Larsen was founded in 1926 by Norwegian Jens Reidar Larsen, who fell in love with the Cognac region and built his house around his Norse heritage - hence the nickname "The Cognac of the Vikings" and the ship in the logo. This particular bottle wasn't bottled at Larsen's own house in France, but imported in bulk and bottled in Hamburg by Ferdinand Fera, a German trading house dating back to 1870. The "Three Stars" designation is an older quality grade from before VS, VSOP and XO became the industry standard, roughly comparable to today's VS level.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Typical for a young, three-star expression, the nose offers ripe apricots, a touch of vanilla and a light, dry oak note.

    Palate

Round and slightly sweet, with caramelised sugar and ripe plums, carried by a gentle spiciness from the cask.

    Finish

Short to medium and warm, with a hint of dried figs towards the end.

Ferdinand Fera, the company that bottled this bottle in Hamburg, was founded all the way back in 1870. The company went bankrupt in the late 1990s, so this bottle is as much a piece of trading history today as it is a Cognac.

  • A. Hauser Kräuterbitter Vintage Bottle 2 German Bitter 70 cl 32%
    Item no.: 22227866-197340

Some bottles just sit in the back of the cabinet forever, saved for the right occasion, never quite finished off. This is one of those. An old German Kräuterbitter from Fischach, its label so faded it almost tells its own story of the years spent standing there.

    Expert description

    A. Hauser Kräuterbitter is a German half-bitter from Fischach in Bavaria, made from select herbs and bottled at 32% ABV. The bottle carries the name A. Hauser KG, a small producer based in the village of Fischach in Swabia, a region with a long tradition of herb-based schnapps and bitters. The label itself calls it a genuine "Halbbitter," the milder cousin of a classic German Kräuterbitter, where the raw, bitter herbal edge is toned down in favour of something rounder and easier to drink. The word "bekömmlich" on the label, meaning gentle on the stomach and easy to digest, hints at what the producer was aiming for back then: a bitter you could actually enjoy without wincing. A. Hauser KG no longer exists under that name today, and neither the producer nor the recipe can be traced to any current company. That makes this bottle a small piece of German drinks history rather than something you could simply reorder.

    Taste

Without an opened bottle to taste, it's the label and the Halbbitter tradition that speak here. Typical of the style is an aroma of dried herbs and gently bitter bark, mixed with notes of chamomile and pine, both of which actually appear as motifs on the label itself. The flavour of a Halbbitter sits somewhere between a sweet liqueur and a sharp, medicinal bitter: round on the way in, with a dry, herbal finish that doesn't bite too hard. The label's suggestion to serve it well chilled points to a style where the cold tames the bitterness and lets the fresher herbal notes come through.

The hunting horn on the label, surrounded by chamomile, pine and wildflowers, is a classic symbol of "Waidmannsheil," the German hunter's toast. Many old German herbal bitters were originally sold as a hunter's digestif after a day in the woods, and that same imagery still lives on labels like this one.

  • Napoleon Cognac 3 x Vintage Bottles French Cognac 70 cl 40%
    Item no.: 2222106-197441

There's something irresistible about a bottle that has lost its name. The gold capsule is scratched and weathered by decades, the glass is dark green and almost opaque, and only a small crest bearing a French fleur-de-lis and the word Napoleon hints at what's hiding inside.

    Expert description

These bottles are Napoleon Cognac from an unknown French cognac house, with the original label lost somewhere along the way. Napoleon is an officially recognised quality designation within cognac, requiring a minimum of six years' cask ageing, so the term actually tells us something concrete about the contents even though the sender remains anonymous.

The capsule's design, with its laurel wreath and fleur-de-lis, points to a classic, traditional cognac house of the kind that has existed for generations in the region around Cognac in France. Without a label, neither the ABV, the cask type nor the exact house behind the bottle can be confirmed, but that mystery is part of what makes the bottle so compelling to the curious collector.

    Specifications

Name: Unidentified Napoleon Cognac Collector's Bottle
    Region/Country: France, Cognac
    Type: Napoleon Cognac
    Size: 70 CL
    Distillation method: Double distilled
Serving suggestion: Best served at room temperature in a rounded cognac glass or tulip glass

These bottles are sold as collector's items, so we cannot guarantee the quality of what's inside the glass. The capsule and glass carry visible signs of wear such as scratches and scuffs, and the bottles are generally in low condition, as also shown in the photos.

    Did you know?

Did you know the Napoleon designation is said to have started as a marketing story from the French cognac house Courvoisier, which claimed to have supplied cognac to Emperor Napoleon himself during his exile? Today the term is officially protected and requires a minimum of six years' cask ageing, regardless of which house uses it.

  • Fernet Branca Vintage Bottling Italian Bitter 70 cl 42%
    Item no.: 2211165479-7211

Somewhere in Milan, not far from the Duomo, a recipe has been locked in a safe since 1845 - accessible to exactly one person in the entire company. Five generations of the Branca family later, that hasn't changed.

    Expert Description

Fernet-Branca is an Italian Bitter built on more than 27 herbs, roots and spices, bottled at 42%.

This is not the bottle sitting in your local wine shop's fridge today. It's an older German-market bottling, distributed by Fratelli Branca GmbH in Weinstadt-Großheppach, with Weinbrennerei Jacobi KG named on the label - a period when Fernet-Branca for the German market was bottled at 42% and sold under a label design that has long since been discontinued. The details give it away: the oval "Stammhaus gegr. 1845" seal with the eagle on the globe, the lengthy authenticity text warning against imitations, and the barcode printed at the bottom of the back label.

The liquid inside hasn't changed with the label, though. Rhubarb from China, gentian from France, galangal from India or Sri Lanka, chamomile from Europe and Argentina, myrrh and saffron - ingredients sourced across continents, macerated and distilled, then rested in oak casks for roughly a year before the flavour is allowed to settle.

    Taste

The nose is heavy and herbal, with a hint of mint and citrus before the bitterness properly announces itself. On the palate it's dark and complex - myrrh and saffron bring spiced depth, while rhubarb and gentian pull a sharp, clean bitterness through the whole sip. The finish is long, faintly menthol, and dry, with a sweetness that never quite takes over.

    Investment Potential

Medium. This is a discontinued German bottling with an abandoned label design, no longer in production, and it's traded today mostly among retro-spirits collectors.

    Did You Know?

Fernet-Branca's recipe exists in exactly one copy, kept in a safe in Milan, and by tradition only the company's chairman is ever allowed to know it in full.

  • Smirnoff 100 No 57 Triple Distilled Vodka Ste Pierre Smirnoff Fls 100 proof 37,8 cl 50%
    Item no.: 505996-4359

There's something about a bottle that's never been opened. This one has sat sealed for decades, its imperial crown and coat of arms still intact — a small piece of American-Russian trade history, bottled in glass.

    Expert Description

Smirnoff No. 57 Vodka is an American 100 proof vodka bottled by Ste Pierre Smirnoff Fls at 50% ABV, most likely somewhere between the 1950s and the 1970s. The label leans on the brand's old claim as "Purveyors to the Imperial Russian Court 1886-1917" and carries the four imperial Russian coats of arms that mark Heublein-era Smirnoff bottles. The back lists four bottling locations at once — Hartford in Connecticut, Allen Park in Michigan, Menlo Park in California, and Paducah in Kentucky — a sign of just how large Smirnoff's American production had become by that point.

This is an export bottling. That's confirmed by the red "U.S. Internal Revenue" tax strip across the cap, a legal requirement on American spirits until it was phased out in 1985. Given the bottle is both unopened and several decades old, we treat it primarily as a collector's piece rather than something meant for drinking — the contents may well have shifted in character over time, even with the seal intact.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Straightforward grain vodka at its most honest — neutral, with a touch of warmth from the 50% ABV and no perfumed notes to speak of.

    Palate

Sharp and direct on first contact, a dry, grainy body building toward a clear alcoholic heat.

    Finish

Short and clean, with little sweetness — typical of a classic, unfiltered high-proof vodka from the period.

In June 1950, bartenders marched down Fifth Avenue in New York carrying banners demanding an end to the Moscow Mule — "Down with the Moscow Mule." The stunt landed Smirnoff a full page of free publicity in the New York Daily News, and the drink only got more popular from there.

  • Solari Bitter Aperitif Vintage Bottle 3 Italian Liqueur 70 cl 25%
    Item no.: 224789-118975

Some bottles wear their age well. This one, its gold-edged label starting to peel at the corners, still carries the story of a classic Italian bitter born in Trentino, long before Aperol Spritz became a summer cliché.

    Expert description

Solari Bitter Aperitif is an Italian Bitter Liqueur made from an original Italian recipe and bottled at 25%.

The bottle is a licensed product of Distillerie Sembenotti in Trento, imported to the German market by HAY Markenimport GmbH in Erftstadt. The postal code format on the label (5042) predates Germany's 1993 postcode reform, which places the bottling somewhere in the 1980s or very early 1990s. Solari belongs to the same family of Italian bitter aperitifs as Campari and Aperol — deep red in the glass, rooted in the classic Italian aperitivo tradition where bitter herbal and citrus extracts form the backbone of the flavour.

The label itself carries three serving suggestions straight from the producer, along with an instruction to serve it well chilled.

    Specifications

    Name: Solari Bitter Aperitif
    Bottler: Distillerie Sembenotti
    Region/Country: Trentino, Italy
    Type: Italian Bitter Liqueur
    ABV: 25%
    Size: 70 CL
    Natural colour: No
Serving suggestion: Chill well in the fridge before serving. As a long drink: fill a tall glass one-third with Solari, add ice cubes and top up with soda or mineral water. Solari/Orange: fill a glass halfway with ice cubes and orange juice, add a generous splash of Solari and stir lightly.

    Did you know?

Distillerie Sembenotti is still family-run in Trento today — in 2020 the Sembenotti brothers also took over the historic Distilleria Alpina, founded in 1930, carrying another old Trentino bitter tradition forward into a new generation.

  • Gordons Vodka 175 CL Vintage Bottle 10 USA 175 cl 40%
    Item no.: 2265481-779987

There is something about an old spirits bottle with an orange‑red label, still clinging on despite decades of dust, that tells more than any tasting note ever could. This Gordon’s Vodka is a piece of American bar history from the 1970s, from a time when a bottle was expected to pour itself, and when Gordon’s boar’s head sat just as proudly on a vodka bottle as it did on the gin.

Expert description Gordon’s Vodka 175 cl is an American vodka bottled in large format with a built‑in pourer, distilled from 100% neutral grain spirit and bottled at 40% ABV.

The bottle was produced and bottled in the USA by The Distillers Company, Limited at the company’s facilities in Linden, New Jersey, Plainfield, Illinois and Union City, California, for Gordon’s Dry Gin Company Limited. The patented “Built‑in Pourer” — a pour spout molded directly into the neck of the bottle under U.S. Patent No. 3,930,042 — was a typical solution in the American spirits industry of the era, where bars and home bars needed to pour quickly without a loose funnel or spout.

The label carries Gordon’s familiar boar’s head and the year 1769, otherwise known from the company’s famous London Dry Gin, showing how the brand in the U.S. for a period also lent its name to a vodka in the same visual identity. Based on the design and patent number, the bottle is estimated to have been filled in the 1970s. The bottle is sold as a collector’s item/memorabilia — note the wear and a crack at the top of the label, as shown in the photos.

Tasting notes Nose As the bottle is from the 1970s and cannot be tasted, the notes below are general style notes for the neutral, grain‑based American vodka style of the time — not an assessment of this specific bottle’s contents. The style is expected to be clean and lightly grainy without pronounced aromas, as was the norm for the era’s “smoothest, most mixable” vodkas.

Palate Neutral and slightly sweet in style, without distinct character beyond the clean grain spirit — typical of mass‑produced American vodka of the time, intended for cocktails.

Finish Short and clean, without notable aftertaste.

Did you know? Patent number 3,930,042 on the label refers to the pourer itself, not the vodka — a detail many collectors overlook, but one that makes it possible to date the bottle precisely using U.S. patent records.

  • Campari Bitter Vintage 1970erne Italy 70 cl 25%
    Item no.: 222479-7144
