Raspberry is the fruit that loses most when it gets turned into syrup. The aroma is floral and light, the flavour tart and brief, and all of it disappears once sugar takes charge. The Twist bottle tries to keep the berry alive at full strength.

    Expert description

Smirnoff Raspberry Twist Triple Distilled Vodka is a British Vodka carrying raspberry flavour, triple distilled and bottled at 37.5%.

The base is the same neutral vodka found in the red bottle: triple distilled grain, cleaned through activated charcoal and then given raspberry flavour. Because the strength is held at 37.5%, the bottle may legally be called vodka in the EU. That is far from a given among flavoured bottles, plenty of which sit below the line.

The consequence shows up in the glass. Alcohol carries the fruit further, the sweetness turns less sticky, and the bottle can act as a proper cocktail base rather than only a long drink. A Raspberry Collins and a French Martini both work without any rebuilding.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Raspberry straight away, more jam than fresh berry. Behind it runs a floral streak in the direction of rose.

    Palate

Sweet at the start, with acidity right behind. The berry is concentrated and faintly seedy, and the alcohol keeps the sugar in check.

    Finish

Dry and berry-driven with a small bite. The sweetness drops away and the fruit acidity is what remains.

    Did you know?

The 21 on the red bottle is neither an age nor a strength but the number of the recipe Vladimir Smirnov developed around 1917. The same recipe sits underneath the flavoured bottles, which is why the raspberry label still reads Triple Distilled.

Frequently asked questions about Smirnoff Raspberry Twist Triple Distilled Vodka

Is Smirnoff Raspberry Twist a real vodka?

Yes. It sits at 37.5%, the EU threshold for anything that may be called vodka, and the base is the same triple distilled grain spirit as the red bottle. The only difference is the raspberry flavour added afterwards.

    How sweet is it?

Less sweet than most raspberry spirits on the same shelf. The alcohol keeps the sugar down and lets the fruit acidity through, so it finishes drier than the nose promises. You can build with it without adding extra sugar.

    Which cocktails suit it best?

The ones where raspberry takes the lead. A Raspberry Collins with lemon and soda, a French Martini with pineapple, or a plain highball with tonic and a few fresh berries. Avoid stacking it with other berry liqueurs, which turns the drink muddy.

    Can I drink it neat?

Yes, if it is properly cold. Chilling tightens the fruit and makes the sweetness less insistent. Serve it in a small glass as an aperitif, ideally with a slice of lemon on the side so the acidity keeps up.

    Does it work in desserts?

Yes, and it is genuinely useful there. A splash over fresh strawberries or into pancake batter adds berry flavour without adding sugary liquid. It also deglazes a pan nicely when you are making a berry sauce.

How long does an opened bottle keep?

About a year at full flavour. The alcohol preserves it, but the fruit aromatics are volatile and fade gradually, especially if the bottle stands in light. Keep it dark or in the fridge and it holds up better.

How does it differ from the lower strength flavoured bottles?

Strength, and therefore the legal name. Bottles under 37.5% have to be called spirit drinks and usually carry more sugar and less bite. This one stands at full vodka strength and behaves accordingly in a drink. More flavoured options sit in our Vodka brands.
