Mackmyra Swedish Single Malt Whisky The 1st Edition (1 Liter) marks a significant chapter in Swedish whisky history – as the first commercial single malt from Mackmyra and, by extension, Sweden’s very first of its kind. Released in 2008, this edition has since become a collector’s item for enthusiasts eager to experience the beginning of Mackmyra’s journey.

The whisky is distilled from Swedish barley and matured in a combination of casks, including Swedish oak and ex-bourbon barrels, creating a unique balance of sweetness, spice, and freshness. Bottled at 46.1% ABV and non-chill filtered, it retains its natural character and full-bodied texture.

The color is light yellow with hints of amber. The aroma is characterized by citrus, pear, apple and honey. The taste is fruity and soft with lots of citrus, caramel and honey, and towards the finish, there is a well-balanced soft oak character from the barrels and dark chocolate. Some of these barrels are freshly made from Swedish oak from Visingø in Vättern. The oak was more than 160 years old and originally intended for the construction of the Swedish Navy's warships. The main component of the casks in batch 1 are first fill bourbon casks. Swedish smoke Mackmyra uses Swedish peat from the nearby peat bog, "Karinmossen", and fresh juniper twigs, creating the unique Mackmyra smoke. Small casks The use of small casks intensifies the maturation and by using different sizes of casks (as small as 30 liters), Mackmyra achieves exactly the character they want. Small casks make for great flavor. Small batch Mackmyra is not a large distillery, so a lot of love can be put into the production. There is room to maintain craftsmanship in production and to think outside the box. Quality casks The casks have either been used once or are brand new. This gives an intense flavor with lots of character. Thanks to this and the small casks, the whisky ages quickly and develops a complex, rich and smooth taste. Local ingredients All ingredients are locally sourced and no additives are used. There is traceability right down to each individual in the barley field. Mackmyra is pure Swedish whisky!
