Islay peat and Mexican mezcal sound like two worlds that should never meet. On European Tour 2026 Denmark, Kilchoman does it anyway — and the result feels both familiar and completely new at once.
Expert's description
Kilchoman European Tour 2026 Denmark is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 5 years old, matured in used mezcal casks and bottled at 50 %.
The mezcal casks combine classic Islay smoke with the raw, green and earthy character of Mexican mezcal. The nose opens with dry, maritime smoke, tar and ash — everything you associate with Kilchoman — while the casks add green agave, herbal notes and a dry minerality that gives a markedly different edge.
The palate is intense and lively: the Islay smoke meets mezcal's vegetal and lightly smoky agave profile, creating a complex and almost exotic combination. The release shows how Islay whisky can take new directions without losing its identity — a bottling made specifically for the Danish market as part of Kilchoman's European tour.
Tasting notes
Nose
Dry, maritime smoke, tar and ash meet green agave, herbal notes, lime and white pepper, with a light sweetness of grilled pineapple in the background.
Palate
Intense and lively, with green chilli, toasted spice, citrus, smoked almonds and the malt's own sweetness, in an oily texture that carries the full strength without drowning out the detail.
Finish
Long, dry and smoky with distinct minerality, where agave, citrus and dried chilli linger, while a salty, herbal close rounds off the whole.
