Ten years is enough for a white Port to change character completely: from fresh and pale to something warmer and more elegant, without losing the freshness that sets the style apart from a classic sweet Port.
Expert's Description
Dalva 10 Years Dry White is a Portuguese, dry, age-indicated Port made from white grapes from the Douro Valley, bottled at 20% – a dry style that should not be confused with the better-known, sweet white Port.
The wine is aged in old French oak barrels for ten years, giving it the first clear signs of oxidative maturation while still keeping a distinct freshness from the white grapes.
Behind the bottle stands Dalva, the brand of the Port house C. da Silva in Vila Nova de Gaia, founded in 1862. The house is one of the few that markets a full range of age-indicated dry white Ports – 10, 20 and 40 years – as a standalone category rather than simply producing young white Port for aperitif use.

Investment Potential
As the youngest in Dalva's age-indicated Dry White range, the 10-year expression has more modest collecting potential than the 20 and 40-year bottles, but it still represents a rare category, since very few houses produce aged, dry white Port at all.
Did You Know?
Dalva is one of the few Port houses to treat dry, age-indicated white Port as a standalone range rather than a niche novelty – the house's 10, 20 and 40-year-old Dry White together span an age range usually only seen among aged Tawny Ports.
