Based on the recipe behind the popular Royal Danish Navy 40%, but raised in strength, this expression delivers a more intense version of the classic naval rum.
Expert Description
Old St. Croix Royal Danish Navy Strength is a Rum-based Spirit Drink from the U.S. Virgin Islands, bottled at 55%.
Old St. Croix, formerly known as A.H. Riise, changed its name in June 2025. This expression is built on the proven original recipe behind the best-selling Royal Danish Navy 40%, but raises the alcohol content for a more intense flavour experience. Despite the increased strength, the rum retains a pleasant roundness once it has had a little time to settle in the glass.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Dark fruits, caramelised figs and orange peel, with a powdery sweetness of marshmallow and heavy fruitiness of papaya.
Palate
Creamy, spicy and full-bodied with sherry-caramel notes, dates, cardamom and eucalyptus. Powerful due to the strength, but reveals an elegant sweetness of fruit, orange and English caramel once it settles.
Finish
Long and warming with lingering spice, oak and a pleasant sweetness that gradually fades.

Did You Know?
The Navy Strength designation stems from a historic tradition, where naval rum had to be bottled strong enough that gunpowder could still ignite if it was spilled on board.
