Tanduay Sauternes Cask Finished Philippine Rum 70 cl / 42%
Sugarcane from the Philippine fields, matured under tropical sun, and then given a final rest in French dessert‑wine casks from Bordeaux. It is an unlikely journey — from the heat of Manila to the golden vineyards of Sauternes — and the result is a rum that carries both worlds in the glass.
Tanduay is one of the world’s oldest and best‑selling rum producers, founded in 1854 in the Philippines. This edition takes the house style and gives it a finish more commonly seen in high‑end cognac and premium rum: after at least four years of ageing in American ex‑bourbon barrels, the rum spends a further minimum of nine months in casks previously holding Sauternes — the famous sweet white wine from Bordeaux made from noble‑rotted grapes.
It is the cask finishing that makes the difference. The Sauternes casks pull the rum in a richer, more complex direction, adding an elegant, natural sweetness on top of the house’s caramel and vanilla base. This is not a heavy sugar bomb, but a rounded rum with fruit and floral touches, where the oak still keeps everything in balance. A rum for those who enjoy the A.H. Riise and Plantation style, but want something less familiar on the shelf.
Nose: Vanilla and oak first, then honey, plums, coconut and a delicate floral note.
Palate: Soft and harmonious. Caramel, vanilla and oak supported by honey, almonds and dried fruit. The Sauternes cask shows itself as a ripe, wine‑like sweetness.
Finish: Pleasant length with warm spices and a final touch of oak and honey.
Flavour profile: Fruity · Creamy · Oaky · Honeyed · Smooth

Did you know? Tanduay sells more cases of rum per year than Bacardi, making it one of the world’s best‑selling rum brands — yet it remains relatively unknown outside Asia. The Ynchausti family crest still appears on every Tanduay bottle, a legacy from the 19th century.
