Whisky glass logo on 6 pcs. with single box, of the ultimate whisky glass, used at almost all the biggest whisky fairs around the world, not least the Danish version.
More than 5 million have been sold worldwide...

Traditionally, there have been special glasses for Cognac, Champagne and various wines to accommodate their special characteristics. Surprisingly, Whisky - a noble spirit with a unique history - hasn't had its own special glass. Even now, in the 20th century, whisky is served in anything from a footed glass to a prism-cut crystal glass.

To address this lack of tradition for a good whisky glass, Glencairn has contacted the real experts, master blenders, to create the perfect and exclusive whisky glass. David Stewart, Robert Hicks, Richard Paterson, John Ramsey, Robert McElroy and many of their connections have been consulted. The quest to create the ultimate whisky glass also involved contact with leading marketing directors, publishers and journalists involved in whisky - all of whom were more than willing to provide their input to the project. Everyone contacted expressed the need for such a glass, one that could be for both the novice whisky drinker and the highly experienced enthusiast, a glass that brings out the complexity and individual quality of each whisky.

A very interesting observation could be seen when the opinions and market research were collected and studied. Namely, that everyone had more or less the same picture in mind of the ideal glass, a glass that allows for nosing and drinking and with a robust base. The combined efforts have resulted in the development of:

    "The Glencairn Glass"

"The introduction of this glass could not have come at a more appropriate time," says Richard Paterson, Master Blender. "Single Malts and mature Blends have become incredibly popular over the last few years and we now have an ideal glass that completes the enjoyment of nose and taste. Like a really good whisky, this glass also has plenty of character."

Campell Evans, spokesperson for The Scotch Whisky association said at the launch of The Glencairn Glass, "a new Scotch whisky glass with a design that reflects the quality of good Scotch and further raises its profile - can only be good for the Scotch whisky industry - I wish the glass the success it deserves."

The late Michael Jackson, author of the best-selling Malt Whisky Guide, has long advocated that the drink should be enjoyed in a glass used by professionals. "A glass that holds the boquet helps you understand why malts are so special." he says. "The aroma from the barley malt, from the peat, from the sherry cask and perhaps also from the sea in whose vicinity the whisky has aged... no other drink works this magic. The problem so far has been that professional glasses have been too delicate for general use in pubs.

The new The Glencairn Glass provides both a glass with properties that professionals appreciate and a glass that can be used."

He further states, "with this new glass you can enjoy your whisky without looking like a snob. I hope that whisky bars will embrace this glass and it will become the expression of connoisseurs of good whisky in general
