Eleven years is not much for a Clynelish. But if the cask is quiet enough, the wax comes through anyway — and you get the distillery almost in raw form.
Expert description
Clynelish 2014/2026 Càrn Mòr 11 years is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in bourbon wood and bottled at cask strength of 52.4%.
The release belongs to the Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited range from Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, run by brothers Brian and Jamie Morrison. The range consists solely of single batch and single cask bottlings, and once a release is gone it never returns. This one gave 264 bottles. The cask was chosen to let the distillery stand forward rather than sit on top of it — a young, energetic Clynelish with no cask make-up.
Tasting notes
Nose
Lemon oil, wax and ripe pears first. Behind them sit a light floral note and a cool mineral edge.
Palate
Creamy and lively. Citrus, honey, malt and wax, with a mild saline note and a touch of tropical fruit. The cask strength brings energy rather than sharpness.
Finish
Medium with dry mineral nuances, sweet malt and a clean, fresh close.

Càrn Mòr means large cairn in Gaelic. The Morrison family has been in whisky for generations — Stanley P. Morrison was behind Morrison Bowmore, and the sons have since built their own bottling house from the ground up.
