Eleven years is not much for a Clynelish. But if the cask is quiet enough, the wax comes through anyway — and you get the distillery almost in raw form.

    Expert description

Clynelish 2014/2026 Càrn Mòr 11 years is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in bourbon wood and bottled at cask strength of 52.4%.

The release belongs to the Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited range from Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, run by brothers Brian and Jamie Morrison. The range consists solely of single batch and single cask bottlings, and once a release is gone it never returns. This one gave 264 bottles. The cask was chosen to let the distillery stand forward rather than sit on top of it — a young, energetic Clynelish with no cask make-up.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Lemon oil, wax and ripe pears first. Behind them sit a light floral note and a cool mineral edge.

    Palate

Creamy and lively. Citrus, honey, malt and wax, with a mild saline note and a touch of tropical fruit. The cask strength brings energy rather than sharpness.

    Finish

Medium with dry mineral nuances, sweet malt and a clean, fresh close.

Frequently asked questions about Clynelish 2014/2026 Càrn Mòr 11 years

Is eleven years enough for a good Clynelish?

Yes, when the cask is well chosen. The waxy texture is there early, and a calm bourbon cask lets it stand forward. You get a fresher, more citrus-driven version than the old bottlings, but with the same core.

    What does Strictly Limited mean?

It is the name of Càrn Mòr's range of single batch and single cask bottlings. Each release is limited, and once sold it is never made again.

    How many bottles exist?

The batch gave 264 bottles. Since the range is built on individual casks, there will be no new version of this particular one.

    Should I add water?

At 52.4% it can take it. A couple of drops loosen the citrus and honey and soften the alcohol slightly. Taste it neat first so you can feel the difference.

    Who is behind Càrn Mòr?

Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, owned and run by brothers Brian and Jamie Morrison. The house is an independent bottler and is also behind Old Perth.

How does it differ from the official Clynelish 14 years?

It is younger, stronger and bottled at cask strength from a single parcel of casks. The result is rawer and more direct, where the official 14 year old is rounder and shaped to a house style.
