William Bill Samuels Sr. had taken over the Burks Distillery. Maker's Mark whiskey has a storage period of about six years and when the whiskey is bottled, the bottles are sealed with red wax which together with the brand's use of the Scottish spelling of whiskey are two distinctive features of the Maker's Mark brand.
