Convalmore Whisky

Convalmore Speyside Whisky (Closed)

  • Location: Convalmore Distillery was located in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland.
  • Founding: The distillery was founded in 1893 by Convalmore-Glenlivet Distillery Company Ltd.
  • Ownership Changes: Convalmore experienced several changes in ownership during its operational years. It was acquired by W. & A. Gilbey Ltd. in 1904 and later became a part of the Distillers Company Ltd. (DCL) in 1925.
  • Silent Periods: Convalmore faced periods of closure, notably during the two World Wars. It was closed from 1917 to 1919 and again from 1931 to 1936.
  • Post-World War II: After World War II, Convalmore resumed production and continued to produce whisky until its eventual closure in 1985.
  • Final Closure: The distillery was officially closed in 1985, and the buildings were eventually dismantled. The site is no longer in operation.
  • Style and Character: Convalmore was known for producing a light and floral style of whisky, typical of many Speyside distilleries.
  • Rare and Collectible: Convalmore whiskies have become highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts due to their limited availability. Independent bottlings from Convalmore are particularly prized.
  • Diageo Special Releases: Diageo, the spirits giant, has released some limited editions of Convalmore whiskies as part of its Special Releases series. These releases often feature well-aged expressions showcasing the distillery's character.
