American Whiskey

Bourbon, Rye, Tennessee

Here you can see an overview of our American whiskeys. Here at Whisky.dk we are wild about American whiskeys, and we have only the best selection for you.

American whiskey is produced with a minimum of 51% corn, as it is a plentiful crop in the US. American whiskey production began in the northern states and was introduced to the US by Scottish and Irish immigrants. Later, production moved south to Kentucky and Tennessee, two states well-known today for their whiskey production. Bourbon is especially recognized as a product of Kentucky, while a brand like Jack Daniels is the most famous Tennessee whiskey. There are several types of American whiskey, of which these three types are the most common - all of which you can find here at Whisky.dk: By clicking on the categories below, you can discover our wide assortment of whiskeys. If you're more interested in smokey/peaty whiskeys, you can find them here.

    Item no.: 22227865486-311

An unblended American whiskey that doesn't fit the classic categories.

    Expert description

Michter's US 1 Small Batch Unblended American Whiskey is an unblended expression that falls outside the traditional bourbon and rye categories, bottled at 41.7%. Michter's history dates back to 1753 and Shenk's Whiskey, considered America's first whiskey company, founded in Pennsylvania. Around 1860 the distillery changed its name to Bomberger's, and in the 1950s the name Michter's was created — named after the sons Michael and Peter, whose names were combined into 'Mich-ter's'. After a bankruptcy in 1989, the trademark was revived in the 1990s by Joseph J. Magliocco and his mentor Dick Newman, who moved production to Kentucky. Today Michter's operates from three locations around Louisville: the large Shively Distillery, where production takes place, the historic Fort Nelson building, and a farm in Springfield.

Booker Noe's philosophy of full flavour and strength carried forward into rye whiskey.

    Expert description

Knob Creek Rye Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is the brand's rye-based expression, bottled at 50%. Knob Creek was created in 1992 by Booker Noe, grandson of Jim Beam, as part of the Jim Beam Small Batch Bourbon Collection. Noe drew inspiration from the Bottled-in-Bond Act to create a whiskey representing the full flavour and quality of the pre-Prohibition era. The brand name was actually used as early as 1898, but was revived by the Beam family after acquiring National Distillers in 1987. Knob Creek helped revive interest in full-proof bourbon at a time when many other brands were lowering their alcohol content.

FEW Spirits was founded in 2011 by Paul Hletko in Evanston, Illinois — the birthplace of the American temperance movement, which remained dry for 117 years from 1855 to 1972. • Jack Daniels Sinatra Select Edition Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey 40% ABV
    Item no.: 22227865486-63

Frank Sinatra drank Jack Daniel's his whole life — this expression is the brand's tribute back.

    Expert description

Sinatra Select is a Tennessee Whiskey made in memory of Frank Sinatra, one of Jack Daniel's most famous ambassadors for decades. The whiskey is aged in specially made barrels with grooves cut into the wood, increasing the contact surface between whiskey and oak and adding extra character during ageing. Jack Daniel's Distillery was founded in 1866 by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is officially registered as America's first distillery. All production still happens on the same site, where the whiskey is filtered drop by drop through nearly 3 metres of sugar maple charcoal before going into new, charred oak barrels — the Lincoln County Process that defines Tennessee Whiskey.

Bottled at 45%, a strength slightly above the core range's 40%.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers rich caramel, toasted oak and a hint of dark fruit.

    Palate

    Item no.: 22227865386-43

Wild Turkey cultivates rye's spicy character with the same craft as its bourbons.

    Expert description

Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky is the brand's rye-based expression, bottled at 40.5%. Wild Turkey's story begins with the Irish immigrant Ripy family, who settled in Kentucky in the 1800s, with Thomas Ripy founding the first version of the distillery in 1869 on Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg. The name comes from an annual hunting trip, where a distillery executive shared his bourbon with friends who were out hunting wild turkeys. Jimmy Russell started working at the distillery in 1954 and was named the distillery's third master distiller in 1967 — a role he still holds over 70 years later, making him the world's longest-tenured active master distiller. He is known as the creator of the recipe behind Wild Turkey 101, the brand's core product.

Wheated bourbon with roots to 1849 — softer than most, since the very first bottle.

    Expert description

Rebel Yell 80 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the brand's classic core expression, bottled at 40%. Rebel Yell was created in 1936 by Louisville's then-mayor Charles R. Farnsley to mark the 100th anniversary of the original Weller brand, with roots back to the Stitzel-Weller distillery of 1849. From the start, the brand used a wheated mash bill, giving it a softer, rounder character than a typical rye-based bourbon. After Stitzel-Weller closed in the early 1970s, the brand was acquired by Luxco, and since 2018 Rebel Yell has been distilled at the family's own distillery, Lux Row Distillers, in Bardstown, Kentucky.

  • Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Sour Mash 35 cl Tennessee Whiskey 40%
    Item no.: 22227865486-11

The black label with the white script has become just as recognisable as the whiskey inside it — Old No. 7 is the bottle everything else from Jack Daniel's gets measured against.

    Expert description

Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is a no-age-statement Tennessee Whiskey, bottled at 40%.

The core of the recipe is a mash of corn, rye and malted barley, fermented, distilled and then filtered through the charcoal before resting in new, charred oak barrels. The result is the smoothness and round sweetness the brand is known for worldwide.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers caramel, vanilla and a hint of banana, carried by the characteristic smoothness from the charcoal filtering.

    Palate

The palate is round and lightly sweet, with caramel and gentle oak spice, without sharp edges.

The recipe Jimmy Russell himself perfected — bourbon's heartbeat at Wild Turkey.

    Expert description

Wild Turkey 101 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the brand's most iconic expression, its recipe perfected by legendary Jimmy Russell, bottled at 50.5%.

    Expert description

Canadian Club 1858 Original Imported Blended Canadian Whisky is the brand's core expression, bottled at 40%. Canadian Club was founded by Hiram Walker, who started his distillery in Walkerville, Ontario, near Windsor, in 1858, thanks to the region's excellent grain. The whisky quickly became a favourite on the back bars of gentlemen's clubs in the US and Canada, earning it the nickname 'Club Whisky'. Walker registered the name as a trademark in 1882, and the word 'Canadian' was added in 1889. Hiram Walker aged his whisky for five years, an unusually long period at the time.

  • Bottle of Tennessee Whiskey-based honey liqueur from Lynchburg
    Item no.: 22227865486-6

Old No. 7 is the starting point, but honey is the detail that makes this edition something entirely its own.

    Ekspertens beskrivelse

Jack Daniel's Honey is a Tennessee Whiskey-based honey liqueur built on Jack Daniel's classic Old No. 7, with natural honey flavour added, bottled at 35% ABV.

Jack Daniel's Distillery was founded in 1866 by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is officially registered as the USA's first distillery. All production still takes place at the same site, where the whiskey is filtered drop by drop through almost 3 metres of sugar maple charcoal before going into new, charred oak barrels - the so-called Lincoln County Process that defines Tennessee Whiskey. For the Honey edition, a natural honey flavour is then added, making the style sweeter and more accessible than the core range's Old No. 7.

    Smag

The nose is marked by honey, vanilla and caramel from the underlying whiskey. The taste is sweet and light, with a distinct honey character on top of Jack Daniel's characteristic round softness, while the finish is short and sweet, without the spicy edge found in the pure Old No. 7.

    Item no.: 22227865486-5

Most bottles of Jack Daniel's are a blend of many barrels. This one is from just one — and you can taste it.

    Expert description

Single Barrel Select is drawn from a single barrel rather than a blend of many, giving a more intense, barrel-driven profile than Old No. 7. Barrels for this range are selected from the top floors of the warehouses, where temperature swings are greatest.

Bottled at 45%, it carries extra power compared to the core range's 40%.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers bold caramel, burnt sugar and toasted oak, more intense than Old No. 7.

    Palate

The palate is full-bodied with vanilla, caramel and spiced oak, backed by the higher strength.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, with lingering oak spice and caramel.
