Nose

Nose

Stauning Smoke Tawny Port Cask Finish Limited Edition is a Danish Whisky bottled at 50.3% without chill filtration. The base is Stauning's Smoke – made from floor-malted smoked barley peated with heather and oak chips – which has then been finished in Tawny Port casks. The result is a complex expression bridging two Danish craft traditions.

In 2010, Stauning was still nine friends with a shared dream, working out of an old meat-processing plant in Skjern. This cask is from that era – three winters in Oloroso sherry wood, bottled in 2013 with sherry written all over it.

Expert description

Stauning Traditional Oloroso Cask 2010/2013 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 52.8%. The Traditional expression is Stauning's unpeated single malt built on malted barley – the foundation the distillery was built on. Oloroso is a dry sherry style rich in walnuts, dried fruit and raisins, and three years in these casks left a decisive mark. Stauning's small copper pot stills and intensive production method build character quickly, and that shows clearly in the glass. This is among the earliest commercial releases from the distillery, from a time when total production was vanishingly small.

Nose

Dried apricots and raisins upfront. Vanilla, light oak and a nutty undercurrent from the sherry drum. A hint of dried orange peel.

Palate

Named after Børglum Monastery — an Augustinian monastery dating back to the 12th century in northern Jutland — the whisky pays tribute to the region's deep cultural history. Only 501 bottles were produced, bottled on 13 November 2023.
