  • Monin Agave Syrup bottle with agave nectar
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19727999-99

The agave plant is best known as the raw material behind tequila, but its nectar has long since found its way into cocktail bars worldwide as a gentler alternative to sugar. Monin Agave Syrup is that nectar, dissolved and ready to use.

    Expert's description

Monin Agave Syrup is a French syrup from Monin, based on agave nectar, with no alcohol.

Monin was founded in 1912 in Bourges, France, and today is one of the most widely used names behind bars worldwide. Agave nectar has gained ground with bartenders in recent years, partly because it dissolves instantly in both hot and cold drinks and has a lower glycaemic index than ordinary sugar.

    Taste

The syrup has a round, clean sweetness with notes of cooked agave and honey, without the sharp sweetness that ordinary sugar syrup can have.

  • Clear rum bottle from Cartagena de Indias, Colombia
    Item no.: 22227865421-1079 - old

Colombia is rarely associated with rum in our part of the world - but behind the clear colour lies 100 months of maturation and a story stretching back to the 1700s.

    Ekspertens beskrivelse

Dictador Claro (Old Version) is a Colombian rum from the Destilería Colombiana distillery in Cartagena de Indias, aged 100 months and bottled at 40% ABV.

The rum is distilled from a blend of molasses and sugar cane, which is fermented and then distilled in stainless steel columns before being aged for 100 months in ex-bourbon oak barrels. Finally, the rum is filtered for colour without losing the character built up during ageing - the result is a full-bodied rum that nonetheless appears clear in the bottle. Destilería Colombiana was founded in 1913 by Don Julio Arango y Parra, and the name Dictador stems from the ancestor Severo de Arango y Ferro, who arrived in Cartagena de Indias in 1751 and was nicknamed "Dictador" due to his power and influence in the region.

    Smag

The nose offers walnut and leather with touches of fresh lemon and whipped cream, while the barrel ageing contributes smoked caramel, sandalwood, ripe banana and orange peel. On the palate, waxy orange, ripe apple, sugared almond and brandied cherry appear, while the finish offers peanut brittle, cinnamon and brown sugar. Despite the clear colour, the rum is full-bodied and complex, with a sweetness that never becomes overwhelming.

    Expert's Description

The Choya Royal Honey is a Japanese Umeshu based on ume fruit and honey, bottled at 17% ABV.

Umeshu is a Japanese fruit liqueur made from the ume fruit, which belongs to the same family as plums and apricots but has a considerably higher acid content. • Monin Purémix Peach French fruit purée syrup bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280307

There is a world of difference between artificial fruit flavour in a bottle and a real purée. Monin Purémix Peach is the latter – real fruit, pressed and blended into a syrup that works just as well in a cocktail shaker as in a smoothie.

    Expert's description

Monin Purémix Peach is a French fruit purée syrup from Monin, based on peach, with no alcohol.

Monin was founded in 1912 in Bourges, France, and today it is one of the most widely used names behind the bar for syrups and purées. The Purémix range differs from classic syrup by keeping more of the fruit's own structure and freshness, so the result resembles the real fruit far more closely than an ordinary flavoured syrup.

    Taste

Monin Purémix Peach has a sweet, soft peach flavour with a juicy hint of honey. The texture is thicker than an ordinary syrup, which makes it well suited to adding colour, sweetness, and body to a drink.

  • Poli Elisir Prugna bottle Italian plum liqueur
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197279964

There's something reassuring about a bottle that has followed the same recipe since 1898. Poli Elisir Prugna is one of the liqueurs the Poli family in Schiavon has never touched – because it was already perfect.

    Expert's description

Poli Elisir Prugna is an Italian plum liqueur from Poli Distillerie, made from pure plum juice of the Prunus domestica variety, at 40% alcohol.

Poli Distillerie was founded in 1898 by GioBatto Poli in the small town of Schiavon in Veneto, and is today run by the fourth generation – siblings Jacopo, Gianpaolo, Barbara, and Andrea Poli. Liqueurs have been part of the production from the very start, and on the old 1930 letterhead, "Fabbrica liquori" actually appeared before "Distilleria Acquavite".

Elisir Prugna's story starts elsewhere. It was originally called Sliwovitz di Prugna, a dry plum liqueur. But in 1938, the term Sliwovitz became reserved for the dry plum distillates of Eastern Europe, and the Poli family had to find a new name for their own, sweeter version. Elisir Prugna was born – made by letting pure plum juice steep in alcohol, without distilling the fruit itself.

The result is a liqueur with a character somewhere between fruit, almond, and baked goods – a style deeply rooted in the traditions of the Vicenza area.

    Taste

The aroma offers ripe plums, roasted almonds, and a hint of amaretto biscuit – warm and inviting, like a tray of cookies fresh from the oven. The taste is sweet without becoming cloying, with a distinct plum character and the characteristic touch of amaretto and bitter almond that Elisir Prugna is known for. The finish is soft and lingering, where almond and ripe fruit follow each other into a round, mellow close.

    Specifications

    Name: Poli Elisir Prugna
    Producer: Poli Distillerie
    Region/Country: Veneto, Italy
    Type: Fruit liqueur (Plum liqueur)
Main ingredient: Plum juice (Prunus domestica)
    ABV: 40%
    Size: 70 cl
    EAN number: 8014115000185
Serving suggestion: Best enjoyed at room temperature, around 10-15°C, in a tulip-shaped glass, allowing the almond and amaretto aromas to fully unfold. Also pairs well with dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream, or a cheese board with aged cheeses.

    Flavour profile

    Fruity · Sweet · Almond-like · Round

    Did you know?

Poli Distillerie still sticks to the original recipe for Elisir Prugna, and at the distillery the liqueur is used, among other things, in the cocktail "Holy Prugna", where it's mixed with scotch whisky, ice, and a cherry garnish – a small reminder of just how versatile an old Italian family's liqueur recipe can be.

  • Choya Dry Ume Wine bottle with Japanese ume fruit wine
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197279962

In Japan, many good meals don't start with wine from grapes, but with ume – a small, tart stone fruit related to plums and apricots. Choya Dry Ume Wine is the dry take on this tradition, made to accompany the food rather than overpower it.

    Expert's description

Choya Dry Ume Wine is a Japanese fruit wine from Choya, made from the ume fruit, at 10% alcohol.

Choya Umeshu Co. has specialised in ume-based drinks for decades and is today one of Japan's best-known producers of umeshu and ume wine. Where the classic Choya style is made by steeping the fruit in alcohol and sugar, the Dry version is instead fermented directly from ripe ume fruit, giving a drier, more restrained sweetness than the original.

    Taste

The taste is mild and fruity with a fine, balanced sweetness and a tart core from the ume fruit, reminiscent of a cross between plum and apricot.

    Specifications

    Name: Choya Dry Ume Wine
    Producer: Choya Umeshu Co., Ltd.
    Region/Country: Japan
    Type: Ume fruit wine

Serving suggestion: Best enjoyed lightly chilled, as an accompaniment to sushi, sashimi, or other Japanese food.

    Did you know?

The ume fruit cannot be eaten raw, as it's too sour and tart in its natural form – it's only once it's steeped in alcohol or fermented that the soft, rounded flavour Choya is known for emerges.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197279836

The deep blue colour tricks most people into thinking this is pure chemistry. But behind Monin Blue Curacao Syrup lies fairly classic craftsmanship: dried peel from green oranges, drawn into a syrup with a candied, bitter orange character.

    Expert's description

Monin Blue Curacao Syrup is a French syrup from Monin, based on green orange peel, with no alcohol.

Monin was founded in 1912 in Bourges, France, and today is one of the most widely used names behind bars worldwide. The blue colour is a classic nod to Curaçao liqueur, which the syrup is designed to echo in taste and colour – without the alcohol.

    Taste

The aroma offers green orange peel, and the taste follows with a candied, lightly bitter orange character that pairs especially well with citrus-flavoured drinks.

  • Lemercier Freres Pastis 1811 French Pastis from Fougerolles
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278507

An old recipe sat gathering dust in the attic above the distillery at Fougerolles. It had been up there long enough that nobody remembered it. In 2017 it was brought back down, and the result now stands in the bottle.

    Expert description

Lemercier Freres Pastis 1811 is a French Pastis produced at Distillerie Lemercier Frères in Fougerolles and bottled at 45%.

Seeds and plants are macerated and distilled: wormwood, gentian, liquorice root and star anise. The gentian is what makes it different, pulling in an earthy bitterness that most pastis from Marseille simply does not carry. The wormwood points straight back at the distillery's absinthe heritage.

Lemercier Frères was founded in 1811 and is the oldest distillery in Fougerolles, in Franche-Comté. The house is known for three things: Kirsch with AOC status, absinthe, and since 2017 this pastis. Pastis 1811 has taken gold at the IWSC.

The bottle holds 50 cl rather than the usual 70.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Star anise and liquorice, though milder than you would expect. Underneath sits something green and herbal from the wormwood, and a dry, almost root-like tone from the gentian.

    Palate

Soft and round to begin with, liquorice root and anise up front. Then the bitterness from gentian and wormwood arrives and tightens the whole thing up.

    Finish

Dry and long. The anise lingers while the herbal bitterness slowly takes over.
