  • Dark beer bottle with Lervig Off The Rack Finnish Rye Whisky 2024
    Item no.: 22197280322-5044

An emptied whisky barrel is never quite empty. There's always something left in the wood - rye, fire, a little caramel from the last round - and that's the residue Lervig chases when they fill their darkest beer into used barrels and let time do the rest.

Expert description of Lervig Off The Rack Finnish Rye Whisky By Rackhouse

Off The Rack is Lervig's barrel-ageing series under the Rackhouse programme. The Stavanger brewery takes their most powerful beer and puts it into freshly emptied spirit barrels, and this release is the second chapter in the line, aged on Finnish rye whisky barrels. The base is an Imperial Stout brewed on water, barley, oats, hops and yeast, and the beer has spent 20 months on the barrels - long enough for both the rye's spiced character and the whisky's spirit notes to settle into the beer.

It's a single batch. Once it's sold, it won't come again. Lervig has marked it vegan, so no animal-derived fining agents are involved.

    Tasting Notes

    Aroma

Dark cocoa and roasted malt first, then a mild tobacco note, and behind it all lies the rye whisky - warm, spiced, a hint of oak.

    Taste

Heavy and full. Cocoa and dark chocolate carry it all, while the rye's spiced character meets a distinct spirit warmth from the barrels. It's balanced enough that the malt can still shine through.

    Finish

Long and dry, with tobacco and a final hint of whisky oak that lingers long after the last sip.

  • Bottle of Mad Scientist Love in a Foreign Language barrel aged stout
    Item no.: 22225-424112

In an industrial quarter of Budapest, a small team of brewers experiments its way toward beers that don't always follow the recipe book. Love in a Foreign Language is one of the results - a barrel aged Imperial Stout, heavy with dark chocolate and warm from months on wood.

Expert description of Mad Scientist Love in a Foreign Language

Mad Scientist is a Hungarian brewery from Budapest, known for an experimental, boundary-pushing approach to beer. Love in a Foreign Language is their barrel aged take on an Imperial Stout, where the heavy, dark base flavour is joined by warm wood notes and vanilla from the barrel ageing. The result is a beer with dessert-like depth, where classic stout elements melt together with a softer, rounder character from the wood.

The brewery builds on a solid base of barley and wheat malt, letting the beer draw character from the barrels over a long period so vanilla and wood become a natural part of the flavour rather than a bolted-on layer. That gives a full-bodied, silky texture that stout lovers with a taste for the experimental will find hard to resist.

    Tasting Notes

Truffles belong in the gourmet kitchen, not on a beer bottle - but Mad Scientist has never cared much for that kind of rule. Truffle Stout is the brewery's answer to the question: what happens when an earthy luxury ingredient meets roasted malt?

Expert description of Mad Scientist Truffle Stout

Mad Scientist from Budapest is known for experimenting its way toward beers that sit somewhere between the brewhouse and the gourmet kitchen. Truffle Stout combines a classic, dark stout base of roasted malt and cocoa with an addition of truffle, giving the beer an earthy, almost luxurious depth usually found only in cooking. It is a beer built to surprise, without losing touch with the solid stout craft it is built on.

The roasted malt provides a foundation of coffee and dark chocolate, while the truffle layers on an umami note that ties everything together into something more complex than an ordinary stout. The texture is soft and rounded, with a finish that hints more of gourmet cooking than brewhouse.

    Item no.: 222479-1898

Three different smoked malts, each with its own character - Moersleutel has given this stout full firepower and called it Supernova.

Expert description of Moersleutel Supernova Smoked Imperial Stout

Moersleutel Supernova Smoked Imperial Stout is a stout with full firepower from the Dutch brewery Moersleutel Craft Brewery in Alkmaar - a beer that explodes with smoke, depth and warmth. It's brewed with three different smoked malts, each with its own character, resulting in a layered, intense and perfectly balanced smoked imperial stout.

Oak-smoked wheat provides an almost bacon-like fullness and umami, while beech-smoked barley adds spice and campfire atmosphere. On top of that comes peat-smoked malt, bringing earthy smoke, depth and a hint of whisky associations. By adjusting the ratio between these malts, the brewers have created a stout that is both powerful and harmonious.

The flavour moves from warm campfire embers to intense peat smoke, with dark malts, chocolate and a light sweetness that ties it all together. The innovation lies especially in the use of oak-smoked wheat, which gives a salty-savoury dimension rarely found in a stout.

    Tasting Notes

    Aroma

    Campfire smoke and dark chocolate.

    Taste

Peat smoke and beech smoke in layers, with dark malts and a light sweetness.

An ace of spades, drawn in black and white, and a headline that promises trouble. Dancing With The Devil isn't just a beer - it's a tribute to one of rock's most legendary names, brewed by one of England's oldest independent breweries.

Expert description of Motörhead Dancing With The Devil
