The name is both a warning and a promise - Death By Astonishment is Blackout Brewing's take on where vinous elegance meets raw stout power.

Expert description of Blackout Brewing Death By Astonishment Cream Sherry BA Imperial Stout

Death By Astonishment is an intense and deeply complex Imperial Stout at 12% from the Romanian brewery Blackout Brewing, where the heavy malt profile meets sweet, wine-like nuances from ageing on cream sherry barrels. The beer appears almost black in the glass with a dense, oily structure that visually signals its power and depth already.

The aroma offers dark chocolate, roasted malts and burnt sugar, followed by the sherry's characteristic notes of raisins, figs and caramelised fruit. There's also a mild acidity and a wine-like warmth that gives the aroma an elegant complexity. The flavour is full-bodied, creamy and silky - the dark malts deliver cocoa, espresso and molasses, while the sherry barrels add layers of dried fruit, vanilla and a light oxidative sweetness.

The finish is long and lingering with notes of chocolate, oak and a soft, fruity sweetness from the sherry. Death By Astonishment is made for stout drinkers seeking a deep, dessert-like and barrel-aged experience with both power and finesse.
