Stauning Peated Private Cask Whisky.dk is a rare and powerful Danish whisky created in close collaboration between Whisky.dk and Stauning Whisky. It is a whisky with strong character, high intensity and clear peat smoke – an experience for those seeking depth, authenticity and a unique cask influence.

The whisky was distilled in October 2010 and matured in a small 32‑liter American oak cask previously used for sherry. The cask had also held rum and whole plums, which were emptied before Stauning’s new‑make spirit was filled in. This gives the whisky an extra layer of fruitiness, sweetness and complexity not found in standard releases. The small cask size intensifies the maturation and results in a deep dark amber color.

The whisky is bottled at full cask strength at 60.8%, completely non‑chill filtered and with no added color. Only 44 bottles were produced, making it a true limited edition for collectors and enthusiasts.

In the glass you meet a full‑bodied and smoky profile with Stauning’s characteristic Danish peat. The previous rum and plum influence adds deep notes of dark fruit, warm spices, oak and a natural sweetness that balances the dry smoke. The finish is long, warm and intense, exactly as expected from a whisky drawn straight from the cask.

Stauning Rye Cask Strength is a powerful, unfiltered Danish whisky bottled at an impressive 58.7%. Distilled in 2015 and 2016, and released in February 2019, only 1,873 bottles exist of this limited edition. Aged in virgin American white oak barrels, it presents a dark amber color and bold complexity.

Stauning RØG is Stauning Whisky’s own Danish interpretation of a smoked whisky – a style that does not try to imitate the heavy, medicinal smoke profiles of Scotland, but instead creates its own expression built on subtlety, balance and depth. The smoke is present from the very first aroma, yet it never dominates. It is designed to elevate the whisky rather than overpower it, resulting in an elegant Nordic smoke profile that leaves room for grain, cask character and fruit.

The whisky is rooted in Stauning’s West Jutland surroundings, where grain fields, sea air and heather‑covered landscapes set the tone. RØG is a double malt made from both malted barley and malted rye – 100% floor‑malted at the distillery and grown locally, all within cycling distance. The grain is kiln‑dried and smoked on site using a combination of Danish peat and heather, giving the whisky its characteristic soft campfire smoke and natural, earthy warmth. Distillation takes place in Stauning’s 24 small, direct‑fired copper pot stills, which produce a rich, oily and grain‑forward spirit.

Maturation primarily takes place in new American oak casks, adding structure, vanilla, caramelised oak and warm spices. A final finish in Madeira casks rounds the whisky off with soft fruit, gentle sweetness and added complexity. This combination gives RØG its distinctive balance between smoke, fruit and wood.

On the nose, you are met with gentle campfire smoke, roasted grain and a warm, inviting sweetness. Stauning Smoked R.Y.E. | Porter Beer Cask is a limited‑edition release of Stauning’s smoked rye whisky, finished for the first time in porter beer casks. The whisky is made from locally grown West Jutland rye and barley, floor‑malted and kiln‑dried at the distillery, and smoked with Danish peat and heather. This creates a natural Nordic smoke profile where the grain character stands out clearly: spicy rye, soft malt and an elegant, gentle smoke.

The whisky is first matured in heavily charred American virgin oak casks, adding depth, sweetness and structure. It is then finished in porter beer casks from the acclaimed Danish brewery To Øl. These casks enhance roasted notes such as coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar and dried fruit, without overshadowing the warm rye spice or the mild peat‑and‑heather smoke. The result is a full‑bodied, creamy and harmonious whisky with a distinct “malt‑on‑malt” profile.

Stauning Traditional Oloroso Cask 2010 is a truly special whisky in a Danish context. It was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2013, making it a young whisky of just 3 years. Nevertheless, it surprises with a complexity and richness normally associated with much older releases. With an alcohol strength of 52.8% and a limited edition of only 554 numbered bottles, this is an exclusive and collectible release.

The whisky is produced by Stauning Distillery, pioneers of Danish whisky. This edition marks the first Stauning Single Malt matured in Oloroso sherry casks, and it was officially released on November 27, 2013. Stauning is known for working with small batch sizes, craftsmanship, and an uncompromising approach to quality, which is clearly reflected in this bottling.

The whisky has undergone an Oloroso Cask Finish, meaning its final maturation took place in sherry casks. This has a pronounced influence on both aroma and flavor, with sherry notes standing out clearly.
