Big Peat Blended Malt / Christmas Edition 2016 70 cl. / 54.6 % Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

A special Christmas edition of Big Peat Islay blended malt whisky. Big Peat is made by vatting whisky from only Islay distilleries. This special edition has been bottled at Cask Strength and has had its label and presentation tube festively redesigned. A shoveful of Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskies including malts distilled at Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and P ort E llen.Big Peat carries a big peaty (often called "phenolic"), beachy, oceanic, slightly ashy selection of Malts from the island of Islay. Ally these lusty and robust Malts selected for Big Peat with the fact that no chill filtration takes place - a more old fashioned traditional approach - and you will detect a massive amplification of the anticipated sea-fairing qualities on the nose, palate and finish.

These are particularly appreciated when consumed leisurely in the the same style these Malts have waited for you in the cold, dark and windswept warehouses of IslayThe whisky is a blend of Islay single malts that have been blended to produce this small batch bottling, which is not cold filtered. The whisky consists of single malts from: Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. The result is exceptional. A complex blended malt. In technical terms, the whiskies are 'married', and here with a BIG PEAT kick.

The whisky is smoked whisky with salty sea and smoke notes. Whisky connoisseurs will notice that great care has been taken to bring the taste of the sea to this fisherman's whisky. Truly a true sailor's whisky. Nose: Salty with bitter peat, strong peat and yet so light that you can sense citrus. Palate: Peat from the first drop, with varying depths of oil and salt, moving into light vanilla and spice. Finish: A long and enchanting finish that blends the best of Islay together.BIG PEAT - "Vatted" Islay Malt But what exactly, you may ask, is a Vatted Malt? It is what the Scotch Whisky industry has traditionally called "a marriage of Malts". Such vattings often form the heart and soul of a blended scotch whisky (which carries the lighter tasting grain whisky, to soften matters). This vatting carries a big peaty (often called "phenolic"), beachy oceanic slightly ashy selection of Malts from the island of Islay, from where the Laing family hail - and no wonder! - as we have included Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and P ort E llen in the "recipe".
