A former ballerina left the stage to prove that French terroir could be captured in a single malt.

    Expert description

Brenne Ten Organic French Single Malt Whisky is a French single malt whisky, bottled at 48%, distilled in the Cognac region. Brenne was founded by American whisky entrepreneur Allison Parc, a former ballerina, who started the brand with her own savings and a dream of proving that terroir — the landscape's imprint on flavour — could be achieved in whisky, just as in wine. The whisky is distilled from 100% malted barley grown in the region, on classic copper alembic Charentais stills, the same type used for Cognac production, in partnership with a third-generation Cognac house whose farm has distilled eau de vie since the 1920s. Brenne was the world's first single malt whisky matured exclusively in French Limousin oak and used Cognac casks. The first expression debuted in New York in 2012, with Parc personally distributing bottles by bicycle to stores and bars — the batch sold out within two months.

    Expert description

Blanton's Single Barrel Gold Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a more powerful version of the iconic single-barrel concept, bottled at 51.5%. Blanton's is named after Colonel Albert Bacon Blanton, who started as an office boy at the Buffalo Trace distillery at age 16 and became the company's president in 1921, a role he held until 1952. He personally selected the best 'honey barrels' from Warehouse H for his guests and bottled whiskey one barrel at a time. In 1984, master distiller Elmer T. Lee honoured him by launching the world's first modern single-barrel bourbon, based on barrels from that same warehouse.

A bourbon smuggled in cans during Prohibition, revived 168 years after its birth in Kentucky.

    Expert description

Chicken Cock The Famous Old Brand 90 Proof is an American Bourbon Whiskey, bottled at 45%. Chicken Cock was founded in 1856 by James A. Miller in Paris, Kentucky, and was one of America's oldest bourbon brands until it closed after Prohibition. During Prohibition, the whiskey became a fixture in speakeasies, including the famous Cotton Club in Harlem, where it was often smuggled in tin cans to avoid detection — earning it the nickname 'The Famous Old Brand'. The label lay dormant until spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila revived it in 2011 using original bottles and promotional materials. Since 2018, the whiskey has been produced at Bardstown Bourbon Company through a collaborative distillation program.

  • GlenAllachie 2009 Premier Cru Classe 12 Year Old 59.1%
    Item no.: 505956-498796-465-2

A French red wine cask from a Premier Cru Classé vineyard has left its mark on this 2009 GlenAllachie. The result is a 12 year old single cask with enough backbone to carry the wine's character through, bottled at a cask strength of 59.1%. Just 323 bottles have been drawn from cask 1040, exclusively for the Danish market.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 2009 Premier Cru Classé 12 Year Old is a single cask Speyside malt whisky, finished in a French red wine cask from a Premier Cru Classé vineyard and bottled at 59.1% cask strength.

This release belongs to Batch 4 in GlenAllachie's series of single cask bottlings, where the distillery's whisky maker Billy Walker lets each individual cask speak for itself. Cask 1040 was filled on 5 November 2009 and left to rest for nearly 13 years before being bottled in July 2022. Along the way, the red wine cask from a renowned French vineyard has layered the whisky with dark fruit and tannin not found in the distillery's standard releases.

Only 323 bottles have come from this single cask, and they have been bottled exclusively for the Danish market. That makes this bottling a rare chance to taste what happens when GlenAllachie's clean spirit meets the legacy of a French wine cellar.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark forest berries, redcurrant jelly and a hint of tobacco meet sweet vanilla and a gentle spiced warmth from the oak. Underneath sits a touch of fresh brioche and a tangy note reminiscent of red wine left to breathe.

    Palate

Full-bodied and powerful, with flavours of dark chocolate, blackcurrant and a whisper of clove. The cask strength brings noticeable warmth, but the dark fruit and soft tannins keep it balanced, while caramelised sugar and toasted almonds emerge along the way.

    Finish

Long and dry, with lingering notes of dark fruit, cedar wood and a light bitterness from the wine cask, slowly giving way to a sweetness reminiscent of dark marmalade.

    Investment potential

With only 323 bottles from a single cask, bottled exclusively for Denmark, this release sits in the medium tier of investment interest. The combination of single cask, cask strength and an unusual French wine cask finish makes it relevant for collectors seeking GlenAllachie releases with a story beyond the ordinary.

    Did you know?

Premier Cru Classé comes from Bordeaux's famous 1855 classification of vineyards, where only a small number of the finest chateaux carry the title. Having a whisky cask rest in a cask from precisely such a vineyard makes this finish something of a rarity in the whisky world.

Eleven years in bourbon barrels, then two years in casks that had held rum from Barbados. This is not a finish of a couple of months — it is long enough for the rum to settle properly into the whisky. The light Glen Grant spirit could carry it.

    The expert's description

Glen Grant 2008/2022 Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited 13 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in rum casks and bottled at 47.5%.

The whisky was distilled in 2008 and spent eleven years in bourbon barrels before moving into rum casks from the West Indies Rum Distillery on Barbados for two years. Bottling took place in 2022 and produced 1,233 bottles, non-chill filtered and with no added colour.

Strictly Limited is the range in the Càrn Mòr family where the younger casks get their space, and where the strength always sits at 47.5%. Tasting notes

    Nose

Apple and pear first, then orange peel and cinnamon pastry. There is a toasted, biscuity cereal note behind it, and a trace of cocoa that only just shows itself.

    Palate

Another vintage, same philosophy. Islay Barley 2013 continues Bruichladdich's work of combining grain from several Islay farms into one unpeated bottle, this time with a year more behind it than the 2012 release.

    Expert description

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured for 8 years and bottled at 50%.

Like its 2012 predecessor, this release is built on barley from eight different farms across the west and centre of Islay. The whisky is matured in a combination of American whiskey casks and French wine casks.

Distilled in 2013 and matured for eight years, it offers a slightly different balance than the 2012 release, shaped by that specific vintage's weather and harvest.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sweet grain and ripe apples, with a light nutty note and a hint of grape from the wine casks.

    Palate

Soft and malty with honey, citrus fruit and a gentle spiciness that builds slowly.

    Finish

Medium length with a touch of winey sweetness and soft toasted grain.

Because Islay Barley is released vintage by vintage, two consecutive releases like 2012 and 2013 can taste noticeably different, even though the barley comes from the same eight farms.

Eight farms, one island, one whisky. Islay Barley 2012 brings together grain from across the west and centre of Islay in a single unpeated malt, letting eight years give the grain's own character room to unfold.

    Expert description

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured for 8 years and bottled at 50%.

The barley comes from eight different farms across the west and centre of Islay, combined into a single unpeated release. The whisky is matured in a combination of American whiskey casks and French wine casks, together giving a full yet still fresh character.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh barley and apple juice, with a sweet vanilla note from the bourbon casks and a hint of grape from the wine casks.

  • Bottle of Isle of Fionia Peated Single Malt Whisky from Nyborg Distillery, Funen
    Item no.: 22227865395-20005 - 0622

Denmark is not the first country that comes to mind when the talk turns to peated single malt. But Isle of Fionia Peated is here to change that – medium-peated organic malt, Bourbon casks from Tennessee and a touch of white oak. Something entirely its own.

    Expert description

Isle of Fionia Peated is an organic Peated Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48%. Distilled at Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery in the historic DSB train depot in Nyborg, Funen, the whisky is made from medium-peated organic malt that gives a noticeable but not overwhelming smoke character. Cask-wise, it has primarily rested in Jack Daniels Bourbon casks with a partial finish in STR white oak casks – Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred. A young, characterful whisky with smoke up front and Bourbon sweetness as its counterpart. EAN: 5712631000216.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Clear and inviting with light medicinal smoke – less Islay, more coastal Danish. Behind it: vanilla and caramel from the Jack Daniels casks and a fresh nose of organic malt.

    Palate

Young smoke upfront with good body for its age. The Bourbon cask sweetness pushes through – vanilla caramel and dark wood – while the smoke holds its ground. The STR casks give a woody, spiced finish.

    Finish

Medium to long with a lingering smoke note and warm oak bitterness at the base.

Unlike many Scottish peated whiskies that use peat from specific Scottish bogs, Isle of Fionia peats their malt with Danish or European peat. This gives a slightly different smoke character – more earthy and less medicinal than a classic Islay.

  • Glen Moray Curiosity Rye Cask Finish bottle with pale amber whisky
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280374

Rye casks are not something you run into in Speyside. Bourbon yes, sherry yes, port maybe — but casks that have held American rye whiskey remain a rarity. Glen Moray brought some over from Kentucky and let spirit from 2016 finish in them.

    The expert's description

Glen Moray Elgin Curiosity Rye Cask Finish is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in Kentucky rye whiskey casks and bottled at 46.3%.

The spirit dates from 2016 and had its final maturation in casks that previously held American rye whiskey. Rye behaves differently from corn: where bourbon casks lay vanilla and coconut into the whisky, rye casks bring pepper, cinnamon and a drier spice note. The outturn is 1,637 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Curiosity is the range where Glen Moray tests limits rather than repeats itself. The distillery has run cask trials as a standing part of the work for years, and the Curiosity releases have included casks from Chenin Blanc wine and rhum agricole. The rye casks here belong to the more successful end of those experiments.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft vanilla met by fresh lemon peel and a clear peppery note. The rye registers immediately — there is something sharp and dry sitting on top of the soft Speyside base.

    Palate

Caramel and oak first, then forest fruit and a peppery middle. The rye character gives the whisky an edge it would not otherwise have had, and the citrus note keeps things fresh.

    Finish

Medium and spiced. Pepper and cinnamon drying out slowly, with a final hint of caramel.

A single refill cask, one day in January 2011, and eleven years later a couple of hundred bottles – that's how Lady of the Glen's edition of Loch Lomond came to be. Cask strength and an unusually light, sweet character make it something of its own.

    Expert's Description

Loch Lomond 2011/2022 Lady of the Glen 11 Year Old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a refill cask and bottled at 55.3%.

The whisky was distilled on 11 January 2011 and rested in a single refill cask until being bottled on 30 March 2022 by independent bottler Lady of the Glen (Hannah Whisky Merchants). Only 217 bottles were filled from this one cask, and the whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Light and airy with vanilla and a clear sweetness, underpinned by a touch of malt.

    Palate

Surprisingly light-bodied despite the high strength, with layers of vanilla and a lingering sweetness carried by the cask strength.

    Finish

    The Expert's Description

The Sandebud by Adelphi is a Blended Malt Whisky combining Ardnamurchan and High Coast, bottled at 58.9%.

Adelphi owns the Ardnamurchan distillery, the westernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland, and with The Sandebud has paired a spirit from there with a spirit from Sweden's High Coast. The result is an unusual fusion that bridges two landscapes and two distilling traditions in one bottle.

  • Glenburgie Valinch & Mallet bottle with pale golden single cask whisky
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280048

Cask number 159, 332 bottles, and that was that. Valinch & Mallet are two Italians who bought a bourbon cask of Glenburgie in 2010 and left it alone for eleven years before emptying it. No finish, no adjustment — just the cask as it was.

    The expert's description

Glenburgie 11 Year Old Valinch & Mallet 2010/2021 is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from a single bourbon cask, bottled at cask strength 52.6%.

The cask was filled in 2010 and emptied in 2021 — bourbon cask number 159, which gave 332 bottles. A single bourbon cask with no finishing period is the most honest way to show a distillery: there is no sherry to cover anything and no blending to smooth out the cask’s quirks. What you taste is what those eleven years ended up giving.

Valinch & Mallet was founded in 2015 by two Italians, Davide Romano and Fabio Ermoli, who wanted to carry the Italian tradition of whisky bottling forward. Italy has had access for decades to Scottish casks that never reached the British market, and a number of the most talked-about bottlings of the 1970s and 80s arrived exactly that way.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Bright and clean. Green apple, pear and lemon peel, with vanilla and coconut from the bourbon cask. A cereal malt note sits under the fruit.
