  • Bottle of Michel Couvreur Intravaganza Single Malt Whisky at natural strength
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972524

Intravaganza is the name of a whisky that doesn't hold back - bottled at its full, natural strength.

    Expert's description

Michel Couvreur Intravaganza New Version is a Single Malt Whisky matured in fresh casks and bottled at 50 percent.

The whisky has around 3 years of cask maturation and is bottled at its natural strength without chill filtration or added colour, following the house's fresh filling method. This release comes with a new bottle design, while the silky, powerful character is retained from the original release.

Intravaganza is one of the more playful names in Michel Couvreur's range, and the whisky behind it lives up to it: bottled at natural strength, without filtration or added colour, after roughly three years of cask maturation in Burgundy.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is intense with sherry, honey and a warm spiciness of cloves and nutmeg.

    Palate

The palate is powerful yet silky, with caramel and sherry, carried by a light, warm strength.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, with a last sweetness of dried fruit.

  • Bottle of Michel Couvreur Overaged Malt Whisky matured in sherry casks
    Item no.: 22227865465-1

Some whiskies are allowed to take their time - Overaged from Michel Couvreur is named after exactly that philosophy.

    Expert's description

Michel Couvreur Overaged is a Malt Whisky matured in sherry casks and bottled at 43 percent.

The name Overaged nods to the house's core idea: Scotch malt given extra, extended maturation in Burgundy, following Michel Couvreur's fresh filling method, where sherry casks are refilled with whisky the same day they're emptied of sherry. The result is a whisky that feels older and more rounded than its years on paper suggest.

Michel Couvreur was uncompromising in a way few producers are. He selected young Scotch whisky himself, then insisted on deciding when it was ready to travel on to his cellars in Bouze-lès-Beaune, where the humidity and cool vaulted rooms did the rest of the work.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is rich with dried fruit, caramel and a warm spiciness of cinnamon and cloves.

    Palate

The palate is soft and round with sherry, raisin and dark chocolate, balanced by a light oaky dryness.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, with lingering notes of dried figs and a last touch of spice.

    Expert description

Myken Hungarian Dance 2020 is a Norwegian Single Malt Whisky, bottled at 47%, distilled at Myken, the world's first Arctic whisky distillery and Norway's only dedicated whisky distillery. The distillery was founded by Roar Larsen and his wife Trude Tokle, who in 2014 were sailing the Norwegian coast with their four children when bad weather pushed them onto the almost deserted island of Myken, barely 400 metres wide. At the time, only a handful of pensioners remained on the island. The family fell in love with the place and established a distillery that has since revived the island community. The whisky is distilled using desalinated seawater and matured in the distillery's warehouse, known as 'The Whisky Cathedral', where the Arctic climate's dramatic temperature swings drive a distinctive maturation.

  • Old Ezra 7 years Full Proof Straight Rye Whiskey USA 57%
    Item no.: 22887-229551

A green label, a little gold foil and not one word too many. Behind the quiet packaging sit seven summers in fresh charred oak and a bottling that never met a drop of water. Old Ezra comes out of Lawrenceburg, Indiana — a river town once known as Whiskey City, because nobody else in America handled rye quite like this.

    The Expert's Description

Old Ezra 7 years Full Proof is an American Straight Rye Whiskey matured for seven years in new charred American oak casks and bottled at 57%.

It arrived in November 2022 as the rye counterpart to Old Ezra 7 years Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which had just been named Best Overall Bourbon at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition that same year. Old Ezra is the heavyweight branch of the Ezra Brooks family, and this was the first rye ever released under the name.

The whiskey is distilled and matured in Indiana at Ross & Squibb Distillery — the plant formerly known as MGP — and bottled by Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, Kentucky. It says so in small print at the bottom of the label, and it is worth reading. Lawrenceburg has been distilling rye since 1847 and still supplies rye spirit to a sizeable slice of the American whiskey trade.

Two mashbills are married together here. One is built on 95% rye and 5% malted barley, and it carries the sharp, peppery rye edge. The other runs 51% rye, 45% corn and 4% malted barley, laying sweetness and body underneath. Between them they explain why the whiskey tastes unmistakably of rye while still coming across rounder than most people expect at this strength.

The casks are new and charred, exactly as the law demands of a Straight Rye Whiskey. Seven Indiana summers pull vanilla, caramel and dry oak spice out of that burnt layer, and because the whiskey goes into the bottle at cask strength, none of it gets diluted away again. Before bottling the spirit is charcoal filtered, the same treatment the whole Ezra Brooks range receives, which takes the roughest corner off without flattening the whiskey. Gold at both ASCOT and SIP in 2024.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dry oak and earthy rye spice lead. Then it loosens up: caramel, vanilla, a hint of dark cherry. Give it a quarter of an hour in the glass and tobacco and old leather come forward.

    Palate

Spiced honey and toffee arrive first, soft and thick. Then the rye asserts itself properly with black pepper, cinnamon and a sharp streak of orange peel. The 57% is clearly there, but it warms rather than burns.

    Finish

Long and dry. Oak, pipe tobacco and a peppery heat that sits around well after the glass is empty.

  • Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release bottle from North Wales
    Item no.: 22227865397-260

The Vikings called it exactly that — a giant serpent lurking off the coast at Llandudno. Now that same coastline has its own distillery, and its first bottle carries the name of the beast sailors once feared.

    Expert description

Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky made with peated malt and bottled at 46%, distilled at Penderyn's new site in Llandudno, North Wales — the first place in around 125 years where peated whisky has been distilled in Wales. The name comes from the Great Orme, a limestone headland at Llandudno whose name derives from the Old Norse word for 'great serpent,' a nod to the Viking sailors who once feared its steep cliffs.

The first release is limited to around 6,000 bottles, some of which sold directly online at launch in 2025. Where Penderyn's Gold range draws its smoke entirely from the casks, Serpents Tears is different: here the smoke comes from the peated malt itself, making it something new within Penderyn's otherwise light, cask-driven range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers dried leaves, ripe orchard fruit and a note of smoke, backed by toasted bread.

    Palate

The palate combines sweet peat with creamy vanilla and baked apple, spiced with pepper and a touch of clove.

    Finish

The finish is warm and softly smoky, with a barley sweetness that lingers.

Signatory Vintage knows what it's doing. When they select a cask from one of Speyside's most iconic distilleries and let it rest for 12 years in Oloroso sherry casks, the result is predictable in the best possible sense.

    Expert's Description

Speyside (M) 2011/2024 Signatory Vintage 12 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2024 by independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 48.2% as part of Signatory's Small Batch series, Edition #11. The distillery behind the malt is Macallan — one of Speyside's most acclaimed names, whose fruity and sherry-driven character here expresses itself on Signatory's own terms.

An independent bottling like this provides access to an expression that does not necessarily follow the distillery's own brand or house style. This is the Macallan character seen from the outside — a different experience from opening a bottle from the official range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

A textbook sherry bomb with bags of raisins, figs, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. Dark sugar, walnut and golden syrup. Bright cherry top notes.

    Palate

Dried fruits lead with raisins and dried plums. More oak than the nose with notes of charcoal and dark chocolate. Cherry and sherry-soaked orange zest.

    Finish

Medium to long finish with dark fruits and gentle oak bitterness. The sherry cask's deep imprint lingers for a considerable time.
