Ardbeg is launching the first new permanent addition to its range in almost a decade. The new whisky is Ardbeg An Oa. A whisky with character and complexity, aged in three different casks and matured in the distillery's special 'Gathering Room', the whisky offers plenty of power and distinctive notes of smoke, sweetness and smoothness.
If you're among those who enjoy a delicate taste of smoke when it comes to single malt whisky, Ardbeg has a new release that will please the taste buds of even the biggest whisky enthusiasts. The whisky is Ardbeg An Oa, named after the Mull of Oa peninsula on the island of Islay, where towering cliffs protect the island's south coast and Ardbeg distillery from the fierce storms of the Atlantic Ocean. Ardbeg An Oa is a tribute to the untamed origins of whisky, with contrasts that balance powerful intensity of flavor and aroma with silky smooth notes, paying homage to the place where storm meets calm. Flavors in perfect harmony The whiskies that make up Ardbeg An Oa are aged in a variety of casks, including virgin oak, ex-bourbon and sweet Pedro Ximénez sherry. The contrasting whiskies are aged in a special way in the distillery's specially developed 'Gathering Room', made from a former grain warehouse. Inside is the enormous 'Gathering Vat' - a wooden container made from French oak built specifically for the development of Ardbeg An Oa, where the three whiskies are blended together and allowed to rest. This ensures a full fusion of the flavors. In the special 'Gathering Vat', the different cask maturations are united, allowing their distinctive notes to emerge. The Pedro Ximénez maturation adds depth, aromas come from the virgin oak maturation, while the ex-bourbon maturation provides the familiar intensity. The result is a rounded and untamed single malt whisky with plenty of complexity.Ardbeg An Oa has notes of creamy caramel, aniseed, dates and hints of peach and banana. The whisky's smooth, creamy texture results in a syrupy sweetness on the palate, where notes of milk chocolate, orange and smoked tea mingle with sweet aromas, cigar smoke and unusually - grilled artichokes, before a lingering, seductive and smoky finish.
