  • Bottle of Arran Whisky matured in French Grand Cru wine casks from Lochranza Distillery
    Item no.: 22225596-143

Scotland meets Burgundy in this bottle — a whisky that has lived two lives, first on bourbon, then on French wine wood, whose exact source the distillery keeps close to its chest.

Part of Arran's exclusive Rare Batch series, where experiments with unusual casks get free rein.

    Expert Description

Arran 15 Year Old French Oak Grand Cru is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in French Grand Cru casks and bottled at 52.5%.

The whisky begins its journey with seven years in American bourbon casks, before moving to French oak casks from Grand Cru wine for a further eight years. The exact vineyard isn't disclosed, but the quality of the wood is unmistakable — it brings a wine-like depth rarely found in Scotch whisky. With 4,198 bottles produced worldwide, this is one of the larger releases in the Rare Batch series, bottled non-chill filtered and with natural colour.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Honey, brioche and ripe apple meet white flowers in an inviting, almost baked aroma.

    Palate

Creamy and lightly wine-like with fresh citrus, vanilla and almond, where the two cask types meet in fine balance.

    Finish

Long and rounded with oak, citrus, dark chocolate and a trace of maraschino cherry.

  • Clan Colla 9 Year Old Bordeaux Cask Finish Ahascragh Distillery blended Irish whiskey bottle
    Item no.: 0597555-766

Clan Colla once moved through the west of Ireland, and the name lives on at Ahascragh Distillery in Galway, where Gareth and Michelle McAllister use it to tie their blends to the land's history. This particular release draws its character from the vineyards of Bordeaux rather than the Caribbean.

    Expert Review

Clan Colla 9 Year Old Bordeaux Cask Finish is a Blended Irish Whiskey from Ahascragh Distillery, matured in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in Bordeaux wine casks, bottled at 46%.

The whiskey belongs to the Family Bond Series, where Ahascragh pairs malt and grain whiskey from ex-Bourbon casks with a finishing period in red Bordeaux wine casks. The combination gives a more refined, wine-driven profile than its younger sibling in the series, where spiced oak meets fruity sweetness from the wine cask.

The whiskey is bottled non-chill filtered and with natural colour, preserving the full mouthfeel and character drawn from both cask types.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet toffee and brown sugar open things up, with a subtle hint of red fruit lingering behind.

    Palate

Peppery warmth gives way to a creamy, wine-driven fruitiness, pulling the flavour clearly away from a classic Bourbon-led profile.

    Finish

Distinct oak character with a gentle vanilla sweetness that lingers.

    Item no.: 0597555-741

Inside a 19th-century corn mill at Ahascragh in east Galway, Gareth and Michelle McAllister blend malt and grain into whiskeys that carry their clan's name forward. Clan Colla is the historic lineage the family traces its roots to, and every bottle adds another chapter to that story.

    Expert Review

Clan Colla 7 Year Old Rum Cask Finish is a Blended Irish Whiskey from Ahascragh Distillery, matured in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in Rum casks from Panama, bottled at 46%.

The whiskey is part of the Family Bond Series, where Ahascragh puts carefully chosen cask finishes to work while the distillery's own new-make spirit matures. Malt and grain whiskey rest first in ex-Bourbon casks, picking up classic sweetness and soft vanilla character, before the Panamanian rum finish adds tropical sweetness and a touch of spice that lifts the profile into more exotic territory.

The whiskey is bottled non-chill filtered and with natural colour, so the character drawn from the casks comes through in full.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla, ripe banana and a touch of warm spice settle softly over the glass.

    Palate

Creamy and round, with dried fruit, honey, coconut and a hint of baking spice that ties the rum cask together with the classic Bourbon backbone.

  • Ben Nevis 1999 Little Brown Dog 26 years Single Cask with koi carp label
    Item no.: 059763-615-6659

A Japanese koi carp swims across the label. That is not decorative filler. Ben Nevis shipped new make spirit to Japan for decades, where it was matured and later sold on under a different flag, and Little Brown Dog chose to put that story on the bottle rather than leave it alone.

    The expert's description

Ben Nevis 1999/2025 Little Brown Dog 26 years is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a 2nd fill bourbon hogshead and bottled at 50.5 %.

The whisky was distilled on 24 June 1999 and bottled on 30 June 2025, twenty-six years later almost to the day. The cask yielded 220 bottles and there are no others. A 2nd fill hogshead gives up its influence slowly, so after this long it is the structure of the spirit rather than the wood that carries the whisky.

Little Brown Dog was founded in 2018 in Aberdeenshire by two men who left steady jobs to work with spirits. The house is known for full transparency about process and origin, and their single casks are chosen for character rather than for the name of the distillery.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ripe fruit, honey and cereal with a clear touch of citrus oil.

    Palate

An extra layer of warmth and depth with pineapple tart, crisp puff pastry, nutmeg, toffee and vanilla.

    Item no.: 222333-86968

Second round for the little brown dog. Same idea, a cask strength that lands low all by itself, but nine years on a different combination of wood, and the result has a firmer edge than its predecessor.

    The expert description

Drookit Dug 9 Years Old is a Blended Scotch Whisky matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at cask strength 45.2%.

Little Brown Dog has assembled it from malt and grain whisky, with a smaller share of older grain pulling the balance in a softer direction. The wood covers both 1st fill and refill bourbon and sherry casks, and nine years have given the whisky more depth than the original Drookit Dug without shifting its underlying character.

Like the rest of the range it is bottled at cask strength with no dilution, no chill filtration and no added colour. The 45.2% is simply where the casks themselves ended up.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla and pale caramel from the bourbon wood, with dried apricot and a thread of cinnamon coming off the sherry side.

    Palate

Rounder and more settled than its predecessor. Honey and coconut first, then raisin and dark chocolate, with a grain sweetness holding it together.

    Finish

Medium length and dry with oak, black pepper and a last nutty note.

Torabhaig 7 Year Old Lady of the Glen The Quiraing, Playground of the Giants is a Single Island Malt Scotch Whisky distilled at Torabhaig and bottled by independent bottler Lady of the Glen at cask strength 60.4%, with no added colour and no chill filtration. Torabhaig, only the second licensed whisky distillery ever on the island, opened in 2017 and was built around the remains of an abandoned 1760s farmstead as well as stone from the nearby Iron Age fort of Caisteal Chamuis. Lady of the Glen, founded in 2012 by Gregor Hannah in Fife, is known for hand-selecting and bottling rare single casks from Scottish distilleries without filtration. This bottling's name refers to the Quiraing, Britain's largest landslide, whose pillar-like rock formations are tied to giants in local folklore.

  • GlenAllachie 12 Year 2013 Single Cask 61.7%
    Item no.: 22227865479-110778

Some casks never get diluted by others – they are left alone to develop a strength and depth that only time and cask power can give. GlenAllachie 12 Year 2013 Single Cask is one such cask, bottled straight without blending.

    Expert's Description

GlenAllachie 12 Year 2013 Single Cask is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky at cask strength 61.7%, distilled in 2013 and bottled from a single cask, Cask No. 4385, after 12 years of maturation.

Because the whisky comes from one cask alone, it carries the imprint of that cask's history — no smoothing from other casks, no compromises. The high strength means every drop concentrates the aromas markedly, and a few drops of water can open up even more layers.

GlenAllachie has made single cask bottlings something of a signature activity under Billy Walker's leadership, where each cask is assessed individually before being released on its own rather than folded into a larger batch.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe fruits and honey meet spices and a distinct oak note.

    Palate

Dried fruit and vanilla dance with dark caramel, while the high cask strength delivers a spicy warmth that spreads across the palate.

    Finish

Long and warm, with a trailing note of oak spice and caramel.

  • Teaninich Rye Rebel bottle from Diageo Special Releases 2025, Single Grain Scotch Whisky
    Item no.: 055333-9916

Rye inside a Scottish still house. It sounds like something went wrong, but at Teaninich in Alness it was entirely deliberate. Back in 2016 they mashed rye alongside barley, ran it through the plant and put it away in ex-bourbon casks. Then eight years passed before anyone was told what was sitting there.

    The Expert's Description

Teaninich 8 Years Old Special Release 2025 Rye Rebel is a Single Grain Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 60.3% cask strength. It is the only bottling in Diageo's Special Releases 2025 collection, Horizons Unbound, that is not a Single Malt Whisky, and the first whisky built around rye that Teaninich has ever let out of the door.

Because the mash carries malted rye as well as malted barley, the whisky cannot be called Single Malt. It is Single Grain: one grain beyond barley, one distillery. Ex-bourbon casks were chosen because they give vanilla and coconut without drowning the dry peppery edge of the rye. The result tastes more American in the middle than at the edges.

Teaninich was founded in 1817 by Hugh Munro and is now Diageo’s third largest malt distillery. Most of what it makes disappears into large blends such as Johnnie Walker Red Label, which is exactly why a bottling under the distillery’s own name is unusual. Rye Rebel also carries the name Daring Rye in some markets.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh rye bread crust and dried dill meet vanilla and coconut macaroon from the bourbon wood. Underneath sit honey, white pepper and a faintly resinous note you rarely find in Scottish malt whisky. At 60.3% it is forceful; a little water brings out lemon peel and cinnamon sugar.

    Palate

The rye takes charge immediately: dry, peppery, almost green. Then the bourbon cask arrives with vanilla, caramel and baked corn, and the two pull in opposite directions in a way that keeps your mouth awake. The texture is oily and fills out well. The alcohol is obvious but it pushes rather than burns.

    Finish

Medium length and dry. Pepper, oak and a last rye note that grips the tongue lightly. A trace of aniseed right at the end.

    Did You Know?

Teaninich runs the only mash filter in operation at a Scottish malt distillery. Instead of a traditional mash tun the wort is pressed through filter plates, producing unusually clear wort, and clear wort tends to give a light, grassy, almost fruity spirit. That is also why the rye can push through so plainly here.

  • Dalmore 14 years MacKarl limited edition bottle from Ringsted series
    Item no.: 22227865471-305-MK

A Danish retailer series named after the mayors of Ringsted does not sound like where you find an independent Dalmore. That is nonetheless exactly what is in the bottle.

    Expert description

Dalmore 14 years MacKarl 1896–1904 Limited Edition is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in an American hogshead and bottled at 46% without chill filtration and without added colouring.

The whisky was distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2015 for Skjold Burne in Ringsted as part of the Ringsted Whisky series, where each edition is dedicated to a former mayor of the town. This one carries the name MacKarl after Karl Kristian Ludvig Jürgens, mayor from 1896 to 1904. Dalmore on the Cromarty Firth releases almost exclusively official bottlings, so independent bottles from the distillery are rare — and a Danish retailer bottling rarer still.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ripe fruit and honey first, then vanilla, malt and a warm spiced note from the American oak.

    Palate

Soft and round. Orange, honey and caramel, with malt and a layer of spice. The 46% gives good weight without turning sharp.

    Finish

Medium and warm, with vanilla, oak and a mild spiced sweetness.

  • Talisker Molten Seas 14 Year Old bottle with a volcanic rock background
    Item no.: 055333-9914

Skye still has cliffs of basalt that were once molten lava. Talisker took exactly those rocks and used them to toast the casks its 14 year old Molten Seas spent its final months in - a whisky that quite literally carries the island's volcanic past forward.

    Expert Description

Talisker Special Release 2025 Molten Seas 14 Year Old is an Isle of Skye Single Malt Scotch Whisky, first matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in new American oak toasted with heat from volcanic basalt rock from Skye, bottled at a natural cask strength of 53.9%.

The toasting is done by heating the rocks to around 2000 degrees and placing them over the casks, giving the wood a deeper caramelisation than standard toasting achieves. The result keeps Talisker's maritime core intact while adding an extra layer of warmth and wood sweetness from the unusual cask treatment.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is mellow and forward with a dry edge, a light prickle and maritime, mineral notes. With a little air it turns fruitier with a hint of white grape, while a vegetal note of parsnip appears in the background.

    Palate

The palate is creamy in texture and pleasingly mellow, yet distinctly sweet and salty at the same time. The pepper builds in a controlled way, with a trace of smoky peat sitting underneath it all.

    Finish

The finish is long and drying, with a light peppery edge and a faint smoky peat that lingers.

    Item no.: 22227865397-222-3

Swansea once smelled of copper smoke. For over two hundred years, half the world's copper was smelted right here, and Penderyn has now poured that legacy into a bottle, distilled inside the old copperworks' own powerhouse.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 12 Copperopolis is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky finished in sweet red wine casks and bottled at 46%. The name Copperopolis was Swansea's nickname from around 1720, when the town accounted for roughly half of the world's copper smelting and around 90% of Britain's — and Penderyn's Swansea distillery sits inside the former Copperworks Powerhouse, right in the middle of that history.

The red wine casks add a sweet, fruity layer on top of Penderyn's clean, light spirit from the Faraday still. The result ties Welsh industrial history to modern craft — equal parts tribute to the past and proof that the distillery can still surprise you.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers orange blossom, peach and cherry, backed by vanilla, honey and a touch of dried fruit and spice.

    Palate

The palate is rich with caramel and honey, raisins, figs and a peppering of oak spice, driven by the sweetness of the red wine casks.

  • Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release bottle from North Wales
    Item no.: 22227865397-260

The Vikings called it exactly that — a giant serpent lurking off the coast at Llandudno. Now that same coastline has its own distillery, and its first bottle carries the name of the beast sailors once feared.

    Expert description

Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky made with peated malt and bottled at 46%, distilled at Penderyn's new site in Llandudno, North Wales — the first place in around 125 years where peated whisky has been distilled in Wales. The name comes from the Great Orme, a limestone headland at Llandudno whose name derives from the Old Norse word for 'great serpent,' a nod to the Viking sailors who once feared its steep cliffs.

The first release is limited to around 6,000 bottles, some of which sold directly online at launch in 2025. Where Penderyn's Gold range draws its smoke entirely from the casks, Serpents Tears is different: here the smoke comes from the peated malt itself, making it something new within Penderyn's otherwise light, cask-driven range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers dried leaves, ripe orchard fruit and a note of smoke, backed by toasted bread.

    Palate

The palate combines sweet peat with creamy vanilla and baked apple, spiced with pepper and a touch of clove.

    Item no.: 0597555-77799

Scottish virgin oak and Oloroso sherry meet in a glass that smells of honey cake and ripe berries – a combination you rarely see from the same distillery.

    Expert description

GlenAllachie 2015 The Sinteis Series Part 2 is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a combination of Scottish virgin oak and Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at cask strength of 58.2%.

Part 2 of the Sinteis series continues Billy Walker's exploration of how two very different cask types can each shape the same spirit. Where Part 3 uses French oak, this release draws its character from Scottish virgin oak paired with the heavy fruit sweetness of Oloroso sherry.

The whisky was distilled in 2015 and spent 9 years in cask before being bottled non-chill filtered and without added colour. The colour is burnt mahogany – a result of extended contact with the sherry casks.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers mocha and grilled honey cakes, followed by sun-dried red berries and a warm note of cinnamon butter. Toasted lemon peel and a touch of muscovado sugar round things off.

    Palate

On the palate you find heather honey and citrus, quickly followed by baking spices and ginger cakes. Poached fruits and mocha add depth, while a creamy vanilla buttercream settles as a soft finish on every sip.

    Item no.: 505956-498796-169-70

A tax band is really just a small strip of paper across the cork - but its absence tells a story about where a bottle originally came from. This Talisker 10 Year Old is an Old Version without the Danish tax band, most likely brought in through a different channel than standard Danish retail.

Note: This release has no Danish tax band.

    Expert Description

Talisker 10 Year Old Old Version without tax band is an Isle of Skye Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in American oak casks and bottled at 45.8%. The whisky is identical to the classic 10 Year Old, but the bottle lacks the Danish tax band normally placed across the cork on bottles sold through the Danish duty system.

That makes it a slightly different edition for the collector, without changing what's in the bottle - the smoke, salt and pepper are still the same signature Talisker has always been known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers smoke, sea salt and citrus, with a sweetness that keeps things balanced and a hint of pepper foreshadowing the palate's later edge.

    Palate

The palate is powerful and warming, with smoke, sea salt and citrus up front, backed by a pleasant sweetness and a clear peppery edge.

    Finish

The finish is intense and fairly long, with a touch of pepper that stays well after the last sip.

No other whisky has made the sherry cask a world-famous synonym for quality the way Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak has. It is not just an expression — it is a reference point. The bottle against which most others are measured.

    Expert description

Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in sherry seasoned European oak casks and bottled at 40%. Macallan was one of the first distilleries to systematically use 100% sherry casks for maturation, and the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak is the core expression of that tradition. The oak casks are produced in Spain, seasoned with Oloroso sherry before being sent to Macallan, and give the whisky its characteristic dried fruit, warm spices and silky smooth structure.

12 years is the classic age, and this is where Macallan's DNA is most clearly expressed. Not too young to have edges, not too old to have freshness.

Six months. That is the whole time the whisky spends in oloroso, after twenty-one years in bourbon casks and hogsheads. A period that short is not an attempt to change the whisky — it is a last stroke of the brush.

    The expert's description

Glen Scotia 21 Year Old is a Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in refill bourbon casks and American hogsheads with a six-month finishing period in 1st fill oloroso casks, bottled at 46%.

The main maturation takes place in used casks, which give less wood and let the distillery character come through. Only at the end does the whisky go into 1st fill oloroso, and even after six months the imprint is clear — 1st fill sherry casks work fast. The whisky is non-chill filtered and carries natural colour.

The 21 year old sits as a link between the distillery 18 and 25 year olds. Where the 18 still has the tautness of youth and the 25 has pulled towards the dry and ashy, the 21 lands somewhere in between: perfumed, spiced and with the sea air intact.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sweet, almost perfumed notes from the sherry first, then spiced red apple and peppercorn. Beneath it sits the characteristic Campbeltown aroma with a trace of sea air.

    Palate

Baked red apples and raisins, with cloves, star anise and cinnamon. The structure is soft and spiced at the same time, and the 46% keeps the whisky together without making it heavy.

    Finish

Long, dry and delicately sweet. Maritime undertones and a subtle spiced complexity that keeps shifting on the palate.

    Investment potential

Medium. Glen Scotia in that age bracket is produced in limited quantity, and Campbeltown has only three working distilleries to supply old whisky from the region. A 21 year old with a documented cask build is a bottle that becomes hard to replace once the batch is gone.

The Galbraith family held Glen Scotia from its founding in 1832 right through to 1919. Nearly ninety years under one family is rare in Scotch whisky, and it is a large part of why the distillery survived the Campbeltown collapse at all.

  • Macallan Harmony Collection Jing Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
    Item no.: 222278333-777412macjing

A British tea company from China meets a Scottish distillery from Speyside. Macallan and Jing Tea set out to find what Phoenix Honey Orchid Oolong and the complexity of sherry casks have in common — and found more than either perhaps expected.

    Expert description

Macallan Harmony Collection Jing is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 43.9%, created in collaboration with Jing Tea. The whisky is inspired by Phoenix Honey Orchid Tea — an oolong tea from the mountain range of the same name in China's Guangdong province. Harmony Collection Jing is the fifth release in the series and combines Macallan's cask maturation with the world of tea sensory.

The result is a whisky with an unexpected floral-fruit complexity — something between the classic depth of sherry and the light, floral character of tea. A whisky that is fun to taste and even more fun to discuss.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Summery peach and apricot with the heady sweetness of floral honey. Tropical fruits, toffee and sweet oak. Red currants and raspberries, followed by dried dates and light orange peel.

    Palate

Fresh peaches in rich syrup with warm citrus and toffee. Light floral notes leading to a delicate leafy astringency. Ginger and clove with milk tea warmth, soft vanilla and polished oak.

    Finish

Fruity, sweet and complex. Baking spices with soft pepper, aromatic clove and cassia. Light cocoa and a faint espresso note at the close.

    Item no.: 059333-77846

Every year, Macallan selects the casks that have left the strongest mark on their new make. Classic Cut is where the distillery shows its hand — no dilution to comfortable strength, no smoothed-off edges. The 2025 edition is bottled exactly where the casks' character speaks loudest.

    Expert's Description

Macallan Classic Cut 2025 Limited Edition is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks alongside ex-bourbon casks, bottled at 50.6%. The Classic Cut series is Macallan's annual showcase for intensely matured single malt — non-chill filtered, natural colour, bottled at a strength that gives the aromas room to fully unfold. The European sherry casks contribute depth and complex fruit, the American sherry casks add citrus and softness, while the ex-bourbon casks bring an additional layer of complexity to the 2025 expression.

Macallan is one of those distilleries that rarely wavers about what it wants to say. That's reflected in Classic Cut: a bottle that makes a clear statement, rather than simply tasting pleasant.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Orange oil and barley sugar with velvety milk chocolate. Caramel wafer, creamy vanilla panna cotta and freshly baked apple turnovers.

    Palate

Icing sugar sweetness with fresh grapefruit and mandarin. Lemon zest meringue and caramelised almonds.

    Finish

More grapefruit and melon with a touch of warming oak spice that lingers.

  • Glen Scotia Campbeltown Festival 2025 bottle with reddish whisky
    Item no.: 222556368-77899

Glen Scotia distils peated spirit for only a few weeks a year. The rest of the time the plant runs unpeated, so by the time the festival bottle appears the raw material is already a rarity at the distillery. The 2025 release added five months in Spanish red wine casks on top.

    The expert's description

Glen Scotia Campbeltown Festival 2025 is a Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in 1st fill bourbon casks with a finishing period in Ribera del Duero red wine casks, bottled at 54.3%.

The whisky is nine years old and built on the distillery peated spirit. Main maturation took place in 1st fill bourbon casks, and the final five months were spent in casks from Ribera del Duero in northern Spain — a region known for powerful tempranillo wines. The combination of peat smoke and dark wine fruit is unusual, and the bottling is a limited edition, non-chill filtered and with no added colour.

Campbeltown Malts Festival is held every spring, when the three distilleries in town open their doors and each releases a special bottling. It is the one time a year that Campbeltown fills up with whisky people, and the festival bottles are usually gone as fast as they arrive.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Creamy vanilla and salty sea air, with peat smoke settling on top. Behind it come dark berries and a vinous, almost preserved note.

    Palate

Full and oiled. Smoked malt meets juicy blackberries and ripe red fruit, with a trace of liquorice underneath. The cask strength holds the smoke and the wine fruit in tension against each other.

    Finish

Long and soft. Well-integrated smoke, dark fruit and a spiced, almost luxurious close.

Medium. Festival bottlings are made in one run for one weekend and are not reissued. This one is also built on the distillery peated spirit, which is only produced a few weeks a year, and that combination of peat and Spanish red wine cask has not appeared before in the series.

    Did you know?

The distillery was originally called simply Scotia. The Glen came later, and on old bottles and nineteenth-century documents the name still appears without it. It is a detail that can date an old label immediately.
