  • GlenAllachie 12 Year Old New Edition – sherry sweetness from Speyside
    Item no.: 2222786-2254

Some whiskies play it safe, and then there is this 12 year old from GlenAllachie, where sherry casks take the lead from the first drop to the last. Cream toffees and honey meet roasted coffee, and throughout you can feel the distillery's devotion to slow, patient maturation.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 12 Year Old New Edition is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured predominantly in sherry casks, bottled at 46% ABV. The New Edition expression builds on the distillery's core profile, where PX and Oloroso sherry casks are complemented by Virgin Oak casks that add extra vanilla and spice beneath the sherry sweetness.

The result is a dram that leans into classic sherried Speysiders, while carrying a clear GlenAllachie signature of nutty and banana-like tones that tie the whole thing together.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Cream toffees and honey settle like a blanket, while raisins and roasted coffee add depth to the aroma.

    Palate

Honey and marzipan meet ripe bananas in a mouthfeel that is sweet without tipping into cloying.

    Finish

Fudge and raisins linger alongside a final touch of coffee.

The pairing of PX and Oloroso sherry casks with Virgin Oak is one that GlenAllachie's distiller Billy Walker himself highlights as especially character-building for the distillery's core range.

  • GlenAllachie 2012/2023 Cuvée Cask Finish 10 Year
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0401

The word cuvée comes straight from the French wine cellar, where it describes a very specific blend of grapes from a given harvest - the winemaker's own signature mix. When GlenAllachie borrows the same term for a cask, it is because this whisky rested in casks that previously held exactly that kind of French cuvée wine. It leaves a finishing touch that is more wine-driven and berry-fruited than most other finishes in the range.

    Expert's Description

GlenAllachie's 2012/2023 Cuvée Cask Finish is a 10 Year Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in French cuvée casks and bottled at 48% ABV.

The whisky was distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2023, spending its final years in casks that once held a French cuvée - a wine blended from several grape varieties, usually built for structure and fruit rather than one single defining character. That leaves the whisky with a rounded, gently tart fruitiness that sits beautifully on top of the honeyed sweetness built up during GlenAllachie's long core maturation.

As one of the distillery's more limited vintage releases, this bottling stands as one of the more experimental cask choices, where Billy Walker's team let the wine world leave its mark on a classic Speyside profile.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark forest berries and a trace of red wine acidity meet soft honey and a light creamy vanilla.

    Palate

Juicy blackcurrant and cherry unfold alongside brown sugar and a fine, wine-driven tartness that keeps everything fresh.

    Finish

Medium in length, closing with a last note of dried fruit and a light tannic grip from the wine cask.

    Did You Know?

The term cuvée is used in the French wine world to describe a specific blend of grape varieties or pressings from a given vintage - the winemaker's own composition rather than the name of a particular region or grape. When such a cask is later filled with whisky, the wood passes on not just colour but also part of the structure and acidity the winemaker originally built into that blend.

  • GlenAllachie 7 Year Hungarian Virgin Oak Finish
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0173

Hungarian oak is rarely seen in Scotch whisky, which is exactly why it is interesting that GlenAllachie dares to experiment with it. The result is a 7 year old sitting somewhere between spice and sweetness — a balance Hungarian oak is known for delivering.

    Expert's Description

GlenAllachie 7 Year Hungarian Virgin Oak Finish is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky at 48%, where the finishing period has taken place in Hungarian Virgin Oak casks — virgin Hungarian oak casks that have not previously held spirit.

Hungarian oak is often considered a middle ground between American and French oak: known for a strong spice and vanilla character while retaining a certain finesse. That makes it an interesting choice for a distillery already known for experimenting broadly with cask types in its Virgin Oak series.

The whisky is part of an ongoing series in which GlenAllachie tests how different national oak traditions affect the same young, robust spirit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Spiced vanilla and a light sweetness, supported by a distinct oak note from the Hungarian wood.

    Palate

Vanilla and warm spices fill the mouth, while the spirit's fruity character shines through beneath the surface.

    Finish

Spiced and dry, with a lingering oak note.

    Specifications

    Natural colour: Yes

    Flavour Profile

Vanilla · Spiced · Oak · Light Sweetness

    Investment Potential

As part of the Virgin Oak series' more unconventional cask choices, this 7 year old appeals to collectors interested in experiments with rare oak types. Investment potential is rated medium, driven by the limited use of Hungarian oak in Scotch whisky production.

    Did You Know?

Hungarian oak is traditionally used more in wine production than in whisky maturation, and its dense wood structure means it releases aroma more slowly than American oak, which can give a more balanced spice profile over time.

  • GlenAllachie 8 Year Scottish Virgin Oak Finish
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0175

While sherry and bourbon casks dominate most of the whisky world, GlenAllachie looked to the forest right outside its own door. This 8 year old expression is finished in virgin Scottish oak - a wood almost never used for whisky, simply because it rarely grows tall and straight enough for cask making. The result is a local, almost homegrown woodland character you will not find elsewhere in the range.

    Expert's Description

GlenAllachie's 8 Year Scottish Virgin Oak is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in virgin Scottish oak casks and bottled at 48% ABV.

Scottish oak grows more slowly and often more gnarled than its American or European relatives, and the best trunks are traditionally claimed by furniture makers, shipbuilders and timber framing rather than coopers. Finding enough quality wood for full casks is therefore rare, making this one of the few whiskies matured in homegrown Scottish virgin timber.

The flavour reflects the denser, more tannic wood - a touch tighter and earthier than the other virgin oak variants in the series, while still carrying the signature GlenAllachie sweetness built up over long ageing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh forest floor, lightly smoked oak and a trace of hay meet a gentle honeyed sweetness underneath.

    Palate

Spiced pepper and dried herbs mix with brown sugar and a faintly nutty undertone from the dense, local wood.

    Finish

Medium in length, dry and slightly firm, closing with a last note of oak tannin and a touch of sweetness.

    Did You Know?

Scottish oak was historically rarely used for cask making, because the best trunks were claimed for centuries by shipbuilders and later by railway sleepers and furniture joiners. The whisky industry has therefore traditionally imported its oak from America and Spain, which makes GlenAllachie's use of homegrown Scottish virgin oak one of the most unusual cask choices in all of Speyside.

  • Glenborrodale Batch 8 bottle with the plain Adelphi label
    Item no.: 22227777998-2214

Glenborrodale is not a distillery. It is a village on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, and Adelphi has borrowed the name for the range where they marry malts from several distilleries rather than bottle a single cask. Batch 8 is the eighth release in the run.

    The expert's description

Glenborrodale 11 Year Old Batch Release no 8 is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Adelphi, bottled at 46% in 1,404 bottles.

Adelphi is known first and foremost for single cask bottlings at cask strength, so a blended malt at 46% is a deliberate step to one side. The idea behind Glenborrodale is to build a whisky where the blend does more than the individual parts, and where the strength is set so the bottle can be drunk without ceremony. Batch 8 is an 11 year old — the oldest in the run so far.

The range belongs to Adelphi's Dales releases, where the names are taken from places in Ardnamurchan and Morvern. It is the same country where Adelphi built the Ardnamurchan distillery in 2014, and where the centre of gravity of the firm now lies.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sherried fruit and malt, with dried apricot and a trace of candied orange. Behind it sits a touch of smoke that only just shows itself.

    Palate

Full and malt-driven. Dark fruit and nuts from the sherry casks, with a spiced middle and a light smoke note underneath. The 46% gives the body firmness without making it sharp.

    Finish

Medium. Malt and dried fruit first, then a dry spiced close with a final wisp of smoke.

  • Glenborrodale Batch 4 bottle with pale golden blended malt
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972749

Seven years is young for a blend. There is not enough cask time to smooth everything out, and that puts demands on the malts going in. Batch 4 is the fourth release in the Adelphi Glenborrodale range, and it shows what the house can do without age as a safety net.

    The expert's description

Glenborrodale 7 Year Old Batch Release no 4 is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Adelphi, bottled at 46% in 1,484 bottles.

A young blended malt depends entirely on the selection. There are no decades in wood to pull the whisky together, so the blend has to work first time. That is exactly the kind of work Adelphi has built its name on, and their selection standards are the same whether a cask ends up as a single cask or in a blend like this one.

Adelphi tastes far more casks than it bottles. Alex Bruce and the whisky writer Charles MacLean taste the samples together, and under four per cent of the casks offered are approved. It is an unusually hard sift, and it is the whole basis of the firm’s reputation.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh malt and bright fruit, with vanilla and a trace of honey. The youth registers as a cereal sharpness behind the sweetness.

    Palate

Direct and malt-driven. Apple, pear and pale caramel, with a dry spiced edge from the cask. The 46% gives it enough weight not to feel thin.

    Finish

Medium and dry. Malt and a touch of oak closing cleanly.

Nine years in a bourbon cask and nothing else. It is the shortest route to finding out what a distillery actually makes, and Càrn Mòr has not laid a layer of sherry on top to dress the result up. 800 bottles, and then the cask was empty.

    The expert's description

Glenburgie 2012/2022 Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited 9 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a bourbon cask and bottled at 47.5%.

The whisky was distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2022 after nine years, with an outturn of 800 bottles, non-chill filtered and with no added colour. Nine years is young, but the Glenburgie spirit is soft enough to manage without many years of cask time, and a bourbon cask lets the bright fruit stand forward rather than covering it.

Strictly Limited is the range in the Càrn Mòr family where the younger casks get their space. Over the years the run has held whisky from Ardmore, Glen Ord, Bunnahabhain, Benrinnes, Ben Nevis, Caol Ila, Mortlach and a long list of other distilleries, always at the same fixed strength of 47.5%.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Bright and fresh. Bitter grapefruit and almond, with Danish pastry and vanilla custard behind. A cereal malt note sits under the fruit.

    Palate

Clean and direct. Vanilla custard and bright fruit, with a bitter citrus edge that keeps the sweetness from turning dull. The youth registers as a dry sharpness rather than as rawness.

    Finish

Medium. Vanilla and grapefruit peel ebbing away into a dry, lightly almondy close.

Two years more than the ten year old and three percentage points higher. It does not sound like much, but at Glenfarclas it makes the difference between a whisky you drink and a whisky you sit with.

    The expert's description

Glenfarclas 12 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in sherry casks and bottled at 43%.

The twelve years is the distillery best-selling release and the one most people use as a reference point for the house style. The sherry is clear but has not taken over yet, and at 43% the whisky carries more body than the 10 year old without demanding anything particular of the drinker.

The name Glenfarclas means the glen of the green grassland, and it is exactly that freshness you find beneath the sherry here. It is a note that runs through the whole range and keeps turning up, however many years the cask is given.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and crisp, with a lightly spiced sweetness and a touch of orange. The sherry sits as a warm base beneath it all.

    Palate

Full with notes of dried fruit, new wood and a light sweet smoke. The 43% gives the whisky a firmness the 10 year old lacks, and the spice builds slowly towards the end.

    The expert's description

Glenglassaugh 12 Year is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in bourbon, sherry and red wine casks and bottled at 45%.

The cask recipe is what sets it apart from the rest of the range. The bourbon casks give vanilla and light fruit, the sherry adds nuts and dried fruit, and the red wine casks lay in a berry note you rarely meet in a permanent twelve year old.

The whisky became the flagship when Glenglassaugh rebuilt its entire core range in the summer of 2023. It was put together by master blender Rachel Barrie and matured in the distillery coastal warehouses looking out over Sandend Bay.

Candied nuts, dates and sweet fig with cherry and cream. The 45% gives it some weight without making it heavy.

  • Glenkinchie Distillers Edition 2003/2015 bottle in card box with vintage years
    Item no.: 22227865437-92

Amontillado is drier than oloroso and lays in nuts and salted fruit rather than dark sweetness. That is exactly the kind of cask a light Lowland malt can carry without disappearing.

    The expert's description

Glenkinchie Distillers Edition 2003/2015 is a Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky with a second maturation in amontillado sherry casks, bottled at 43%.

The whisky was distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2015 after twelve years. The first part of maturation took place in ordinary casks, after which the whisky spent a period in amontillado casks — what Diageo calls double maturation.

Distillers Edition exists for each of the Classic Malts distilleries, and each one was given its own type of sherry. Glenkinchie got amontillado, which is dry and nutty and does not flatten the light distillery style.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Lemon and meadow flowers with nuts, dried apricot and a note of salted caramel from the cask.

    Palate

Softer and rounder than the standard bottling. Vanilla and citrus at the base with nuts, dried fruit and a dry sherry edge on top.

    Finish

Medium length and dry with nuts, spice and a lightly salted close.

Medium. The 2003/2015 vintage is discontinued, and Distillers Edition appears in new vintages every year, so the older ones quietly disappear from the shelves. It is a range people collect by vintage rather than by single bottle.

    Did you know?

Glenkinchie runs only two pot stills, but they are among the largest in Scotland. The wash still is charged with around 21,000 litres, and that kind of volume gives a light, clean spirit with long copper contact.

Cipher got a little sibling. Where one hid its character behind a name, The Glenlivet let Code turn the riddle itself into part of the experience.

    Expert Description

Glenlivet Miniature Code Limited Edition is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky in miniature format, bottled at 48%.

Code was part of the same limited series as Cipher, in which The Glenlivet played with theme and storytelling around its releases. The 5 cl miniature was intended as a compact introduction to a more intense side of the distillery's range, with a strength and structure well above the core range's 40% expressions.

    Tasting Notes

Fresh and lightly sweet, with a hint of the spiced weight that follows on the palate.

  • Bottle of Glenlossie Flora & Fauna Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
    Item no.: 22227865471-303

South of Elgin, where Speyside flattens out toward the coast, sits a distillery few outside the trade have ever heard of. Glenlossie has spent decades quietly propping up blends like Haig's and Dimple – Flora & Fauna is one of the rare chances to meet it on its own.

    Expert's Description

Glenlossie 10 Year Old Flora & Fauna Single Speyside Malt Whisky is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 43%.

The bottle belongs to the Flora & Fauna series, launched in 1992 by the then United Distillers (today Diageo, the world's largest spirits company). The original series comprised 26 different single malts, chosen to show the breadth of Scotland's whisky regions – most bottled at 43%, a handful at cask strength, and some presented in wooden cases.

Glenlossie sits just south of Elgin alongside several other distilleries most drinkers have never heard of, since their output mainly feeds blends. Glenlossie is a well-known component of Haig's and Dimple, and it rarely appears on a label by itself.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cornflakes and freshly cut vanilla arrive first, quietly rather than loudly – Glenlossie isn't a whisky that shouts. Behind the pale, cereal sweetness sits a hint of ripe orchard fruit, held back almost politely.

    Palate

Ginger and toasted bread define the palate, carried on a soft, creamy body. The sweetness stays restrained and malty rather than fruity, and the texture is round without turning heavy.

    Finish

White pepper adds a small spark to an otherwise quiet finish – short, dry and precise, like a parting remark from a whisky that would rather do its work inside a blend than stand alone on a shelf.

The Un-Chillfiltered Collection is Signatory's answer to whisky lovers who want the full flavour picture – no chill filtration, no shortcuts. This Glenlossie is a good example of what you gain by letting the whisky be entirely itself.

    Expert's Description

Glenlossie 2008/2021 The Un-Chillfiltered Collection Signatory Vintage 12 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46%.

Distilled on 28 October 2008 and bottled on 5 August 2021 by Signatory Vintage, from two casks, No. 10527 and 10528, with no added colour and no chill filtration. That leaves room for the whisky's full natural range of flavour, which filtration can otherwise strip away.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Creamy vanilla and lightly toasted oak meet a fresh citrus peel. Beneath the pale surface sits a clear malt sweetness.

    Palate

Round and creamy, with malty sweetness, citrus peel and a mild spice from the oak. The lack of filtration gives a noticeably fuller body than many other 12-year-old Speyside malts.

    Finish

Long and smooth, with a lingering, honeyed sweetness of cereal and light fruit.

    Expert's Description

Glenlossie 2009/2022 The Un-Chillfiltered Collection Signatory Vintage 12 Year Old is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky bottled at 46%.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Pale honey, freshly baked shortbread and a fresh lemon note. The bourbon cask gives a clear, but not overwhelming, vanilla sweetness.

    Palate

Soft and round, with malty sweetness, vanilla and a hint of pear. The lack of filtration gives good body to the relatively gentle 46%.

This elusive Speyside distillery is almost never released as an official bottling – and even among independent releases, it's a rarity. Wilson & Morgan has captured a young, sherry-toned expression that shows a different side of Glenlossie.

    Expert's Description

Glenlossie 2013/2023 Wilson & Morgan 10 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46%.

Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2023 by Wilson & Morgan, from a refill hogshead with a 2-year finish in a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt, Cask No. 131-32/135-36, yielding 1,423 bottles. The influence of the two years in sherry cask is clear in the wine-toned, faintly tart note on the nose.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Wine-toned and faintly tart, with raisin and a hint of dried blackcurrant over the cereal Glenlossie base.

    Palate

  • Bottle of Glenlossie-Glenlivet Cadenhead's Speyside Single Malt whisky
    Item no.: 22225390-7559

Glenlossie is one of Speyside's quiet names. Most of what it distils disappears into blends and is never seen as single malt. So when an independent bottler like Cadenhead's chooses to put the name on the label, it's a rare chance to meet the distillery on its own terms – no sherry cask masking the character.

    Expert's Description

Glenlossie-Glenlivet 2013/2025 Cadenhead's Original Collection 12 Year Old is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46%.

The whisky is a release from Cadenhead's Original Collection, Scotland's oldest independent bottler, with roots dating back to 1842. It has spent twelve years in bourbon hogsheads – the slightly larger ex-bourbon casks – exactly the cask type that lets Glenlossie's pale, green and lightly bakery-toned style speak for itself. No finish, no detours. Just distillery and oak.

The name "Glenlossie-Glenlivet" is a leftover from an era when a string of Speyside distilleries appended "-Glenlivet" to borrow some shine from the famous name. Today it's mostly a nerdy nod to history.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Lemongrass and fresh herbs first, then a dusting of sherbet and soft, poached pears. Pale and lightly perfumed.

    Palate

Shortbread and crisp gooseberries sit atop a core of caramelised brown sugar. Creamy without turning heavy.

    Finish

Vanilla pod and icing sugar slide into crème brûlée and a nutty hint of pistachio. Lingers, soft and sweet.

    Item no.: 22227865397-253

Straight neck stills sound like something for technical nerds, but the result is anything but dull. Inchmurrin 12 Year Old is a fruit salad in glass form – peach, apple and pear meeting dark chocolate and exotic spice.

    Expert's Description

Inchmurrin 12 Year Old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in American oak and bottled at 46%.

The whisky is distilled on Loch Lomond's distinctive straight neck pot stills, which help give Inchmurrin its pronounced fruitiness. After 12 years in a combination of ex-bourbon, refill and re-charred American oak casks, the whisky comes across as a lively, sweet and versatile dram.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Pear, red apples and ripe blueberries with cereal, allspice, ginger and pepper in the background, balanced by a sweet toffee tone.

    Palate

Peach, red apples and pears create a juicy fruit salad, while grapefruit gives a zesty edge to creamy fudge and vanilla.

    Finish

Medium length finish with fruity sweetness, drying oak and a peppery close.

Distilled at Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery in Nyborg, Funen, Little Isle is the primary entry into the distillery’s range. Did you know?

STR stands for Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred – a method for reactivating used casks by removing the depleted wood layer, then re-toasting and re-charring them. It delivers a different sweetness compared to a fresh first fill cask.
