The Research Series is Stauning's laboratory – limited batches, experiments, no promises of repetition. Dirty Bastard lives up to its name.

    Expert description

Stauning Dirty Bastard Research Series is a Danish Single Rye Whisky bottled at cask strength 53.4% without chill filtration. The Research Series is Stauning's platform for experimenting with new techniques and cask types in small, one-off batches. Dirty Bastard is rye whisky at its most uncompromising – intense, spiced and straight from the cask.

    Tasting notes

Dry rye bread and fresh grain with black spices up front. Vanilla and light caramel from the oak come through beneath.

Frequently asked questions about Stauning Dirty Bastard Research Series

    What is Stauning's Research Series?

The Research Series is Stauning's experimental line of limited-batch releases testing new techniques and cask types. Each expression is unique and rarely repeated in identical form.

What does Stauning Dirty Bastard taste like?

Dirty Bastard is spiced and powerful. The nose offers dry rye bread, pepper and vanilla; the palate is oily and full with herbs and dark fruit. The finish is long and warm.

    What is cask strength whisky?

Cask strength means the whisky is bottled directly from the cask without dilution. This results in a higher ABV and more intense flavours. Many drinkers add a few drops of water to open up the aromas.

    What is single rye whisky?

Single Rye Whisky is made entirely from rye at a single distillery. Rye gives a spicier, drier character than barley and is one of Stauning's signatures.

Does Dirty Bastard make a good gift?

A Research Series expression is an excellent gift for the enthusiast who already knows Stauning's core range. The limited-batch nature and the name make it memorable.
