Three distilleries, one region, and a shared handshake from Douglas Laing - The Gauldrons gathers the best of Campbeltown into a single bottle, named after the rugged terrain surrounding the town.
Expert Description
The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Batch 2 is a Campbeltown Blended Malt Scotch Whisky composed of single malt from the region's distilleries, matured in sherry casks and bottled at 50%.
The range is part of Douglas Laing's newer output, gathering malt from Campbeltown's three remaining distilleries into a shared blend. Batch 2 stands out from the first release with a higher strength, lifting both the smoke and the sherry spice a notch further. The sherry casks bring a spiced, rounded character, kept in check by the region's typical salty, lightly smoky backbone.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Raisin-sweet sherry meets toasted nuts and a whisper of smoke, with a hint of salted caramel behind it.
Palate
Spiced and round with dark chocolate, dried fruit and a clear but balanced smoke note.
Finish
Warm and lightly salty, the sherry sweetness fading into a dry, smoky close.
