  • Rum bottle with brown label design, Mhoba Bushfire
    Item no.: 222255548879-9996321

Inspired by the South African braai tradition, Mhoba matures its Bushfire on staves of local bushwood, so the smoke from the fire follows all the way into the bottle.

    Expert Description

Mhoba Bushfire is a South African Single Estate Rum made from 100% fermented sugarcane juice and bottled at 55%.

Behind the bottle stands the Mhoba Rum Distillery in the Onderberg district of Mpumalanga, founded by Robert Greaves, whose family has grown sugarcane at the foot of the Makhonjwa Mountains since the 1980s. The entire process takes place on their own land, from growing organic sugarcane to fermentation, pot still distillation and hand-filling the bottle. Bushfire is a small batch release, where the rum matures on staves split from local sickle bush, a method inspired by the South African braai tradition, giving the rum its characteristic smoky profile.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Smoky fire, a hint of bacon and dry wood.

    Palate

Powerful and roasted with meaty, smoky notes and a warm spiciness.

  • Opthimus 15 Year barricas de Malt Whisky Finish Dominican Republic Rum 43%
    Item no.: 22265421-15

There is something stubborn about doing things the wrong way round. The world is full of whisky that has been allowed to rest in used rum casks. Here it is the rum that has taken the trip the other way and settled into a cask that once held Scotch malt whisky. The nose is Caribbean. The tail is a touch Highland.

    Expert description

Opthimus 15 Year barricas de Malt Whisky Finish is a Dominican Rum from Oliver & Oliver, matured by the solera method in ex-bourbon casks and finished in Scotch Single Malt Whisky casks before bottling at 43%.

Oliver & Oliver is based in Santo Domingo, but the family's story begins in Cuba, where Juanillo Oliver built his first rum production in the late 1800s. When the family resumed the work in the 1990s, it happened from the Dominican Republic. The house distils and blends rum from molasses on column stills and supplements with distillates from, among other places, Panama, Trinidad, Colombia and Nicaragua. That exact blend is the house's signature, and what precisely goes into any given bottle they keep close to the chest.

Maturation happens by the solera principle, the same system the sherry houses of Andalusia use. The casks stand in tiers, and rum is always drawn from the lowest and oldest row, which is then topped up from the row above. The number 15 on the label refers to the oldest rum in the system, not every drop in the bottle. That gives a rum with both youthful fruit and the deep, concentrated tone that only time in cask can deliver.

After the solera maturation in ex-bourbon casks, the rum moves onto casks that previously held Scotch Single Malt Whisky. This is where the bottle sets itself apart. The whisky cask lays a dryness over the Spanish-style sweetness, brings the spice forward and gives the finish an edge the Opthimus range is not otherwise known for. This bottling is from 2018 and made in a limited, numbered series of 3,000 bottles.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and light honey first, then dried fruit and cask oak. Behind it lies cinnamon, sandalwood and a dry, almost malty tone that does not belong in a typical Dominican rum.

    Palate

Full-bodied and soft with clear toffee and vanilla sweetness. Then the whisky cask enters from the side with pepper, roasted nuts and a dryness that keeps the sweetness in check. The oak is present throughout without becoming dominant.

    Finish

Long and warm. The dryness from the malt cask lingers alongside pepper and a last trace of syrupy sweetness.

Just six months in port wine casks, but that is enough to lift the entire character of this 15-year-old rum.

    Expert description

Opthimus 15 Years Oporto is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, finished 6 months in port wine casks and bottled at 43%.

The rum builds on Opthimus' classic 15-year-old solera blend, where rum from multiple vintages is gradually blended to achieve depth and consistency. By finishing it in port wine casks, an extra layer of aromatic depth is added, making it noticeably more opulent on the palate than the house's standard 15-year-old edition.

    Tasting notes

  • Opthimus 18 Year Dominican Republic Rum 38%
    Item no.: 22227865421-11

Outside Santo Domingo the warehouses stand close together, and the air inside is heavy and warm all year round.

Here time works faster than in a Scottish cellar. The casks give up their contents at a pace no northern European warehouse can match, and evaporation takes its toll every single year.

Opthimus is the Oliver family's answer to what that heat can be used for, if you have the patience to wait anyway.

    Expert description

Opthimus 18 Year Cum Laude 2019 is a Dominican Rum from Oliver & Oliver, matured in ex-Bourbon casks of American white oak and bottled at 38%.

Oliver & Oliver is a family business with Cuban roots. The family left Cuba in 1959, and only in the early 1990s was the business rebuilt in the Dominican Republic, where it is now based in Hato Nuevo outside Santo Domingo. The house does not distil itself, but blends and matures molasses-based distillates under the direction of maestro ronero Don Pedro Oliver.

Maturation follows the Sistema Solera, the Spanish pyramid system originally developed for sherry. Rum of different ages is continually blended in a system of casks, so that a portion of the oldest rum always carries forward. The number 18 on the label refers to the oldest rum in the blend, not the whole content. That is worth knowing if you come from the world of whisky, where the age statement means exactly the opposite.

Cum Laude is Oliver & Oliver's designation for the bottlings the house itself considers top marks, and it is only used for select vintages. This one was bottled in 2019 in a run of 1,000 bottles. Each bottle is filled, labelled and numbered by hand, and the label is signed by the maestro ronero. The casks are former Bourbon casks from Kentucky of American white oak, and they are what deliver the vanilla, coconut and soft timber running through the whole flavour. The 38% is a deliberate choice by the house: the rum is built for softness rather than power.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Warm vanilla and light honey first. Behind that comes toffee, dried fig and a mild cocoa note, and right at the end a touch of pipe tobacco and dry oak.

    Palate

Soft and round. Honey and caramel carry the start, then dark chocolate and roasted coffee unfold, and there is a lightly peppery edge and a touch of ginger in the background that keeps the sweetness in check.

    Finish

Long and spiced-sweet. The vanilla lingers longest, along with sweet oak and a dry tobacco note right at the very end.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280322-14

Where the cognac edition seeks elegance, this sister goes the opposite way: casks from a peated Islay whisky lend Dominican rum a layer of Scottish smoke.

    Expert Description

Patridom XO Islay Cask Finish is a Dominican Republic Rum-based Spirit Drink, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice and molasses on column stills, tropically aged 12 to 15 years and finished in casks from peated Islay whisky, bottled at 44% with no chill filtration.

This edition of the Patridom XO range takes the house's classic solera-inspired blend and lets it rest in casks that previously held peated whisky from Islay in Scotland. The extra process lends the rum a pronounced smoky character unusual in the Dominican rum tradition, and the result is a complex crossover between two spirits traditions. The bottle was filled in August 2022 in 1,886 copies.

The result is a sweet, lightly smoky rum, where coffee and soapy tones meet a gentle spiciness.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Soapy and floral at first, with smoke and coffee developing after a while.

    Palate

Lightly smoky, sweet and fruity with a delicate spiciness.

    Item no.: 059763-615-241

Where the Cognac edition draws its French finish from the Cognac region, this edition heads to another part of France - to Limoux and the wine casks used for the local sparkling wine.

    Expert Description

Patridom XO Limoux Cask Finish is a Spirit Drink with Caribbean Rum from the Dominican Republic, aged 12 to 15 years with a finishing period in ex-Limoux casks, bottled at 43%.

The base is the same as the Cognac edition: Patridom's core bottling XO, a premium rum made from fresh cane juice and molasses, fully tropically aged in American and French oak casks. This limited edition then received an additional maturation in ex-Limoux casks from the south of France, adding a different, more wine-driven fruit note to the rum. The edition was bottled in July 2023 and is limited to 1,949 bottles.

The Limoux finish gives the rum a touch of white wine acidity and freshness, clearly setting it apart from the other Patridom editions.

    Item no.: 22255-1557

Named after a British navy veteran who later became a historian of Navy rum, Mister Fogg honours a bygone era when navy rum was a fixed part of sailors' daily lives.

    Expert Description

Planteray Mister Fogg Navy Rum is a Caribbean Rum blending rum from Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana and Jamaica, bottled at 55.7%.

The rum is the result of a multi-year research project led by Planteray master blender Alexandre Gabriel and rum historian Matt Pietrek, who built the blend on the work of navy veteran Michael Fogg. The blend consists of 43% rum from Barbados, 36% from Trinidad, 17% from Guyana and 4% from Jamaica. The rums are first aged in ex-bourbon casks in their respective countries of origin, after which the blend is shipped to south-west France, where it undergoes double ageing in used oak barrels and extensive oxygenation in large, open wooden vats.

The result is a full-bodied, complex rum, where molasses and dark chocolate meet vanilla, dried fruit and spice in a long, powerful finish.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

    Molasses, dark chocolate and spice.

    Palate

Dunder is the funky, fermented residue from previous distillations, which Providence deliberately blends into its rum to create a wild, unpolished intensity.

    Expert Description

Providence Dunder & Syrup is a Haiti Rum, an unaged white rum distilled from sugar cane juice, sugar cane syrup and dunder on a copper pot still, bottled at 56%.

The combination of fresh sugar cane juice, concentrated sugar cane syrup and dunder, the fermented residue from previous distillations, gives the rum a complex, funky character far removed from more restrained, industrially made white rums. This Haitian style draws on the wild, ester-rich tradition more commonly associated with Jamaica, but with its own distinct, unpolished character.

The result is an intense, oily rum with a rich tropical fruit expression and a pronounced, lingering funk.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana, fermenting pineapple and fresh-cut grass, with a hint of rubber.

    Palate

Oily and full-bodied with papaya, mango and guava, followed by banana and green bell pepper.

  • Pusser's Select Aged 151 British Navy Rum Guyana bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972707

151 is the number that gives the bottle its name, a reference to the old British navy's overproof standard, back when rum was still part of sailors' daily ration.

    Expert Description

Pusser's Select Aged 151 is a Guyana Rum, a blend from Pusser's Rum, aged a minimum of 3 years in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at cask strength, 75.5%.

The rum is based on distillate from Guyanese molasses, including from the famous Port Mourant wooden double pot still, one of the last of its kind still in operation. Select Aged 151 closely follows the Admiralty's historic regulations for the official navy rum ration, which was issued to British sailors up until 1970, when the tradition was finally abolished. Pusser's Rum later took over the rights to continue the recipe and the name.

The style is intense and powerful, with a deep, dark sweetness carrying the entire historic overproof heritage forward.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Treacle, stone fruit compote and dark cane syrup, with marzipan and tobacco.

    Palate

Intense caramel and molasses, dark chocolate and black coffee, with a hint of strawberry jam and liquorice.

    Item no.: 059763-615-244

The Rammstein name is known from the stage, but behind the bottle lies a very different craft - a Caribbean blend, finished off in ex-cognac casks.

    Expert Description

Rammstein Limited Edition Cognac Cask Finish is a Rum from Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad, up to 12 years old with a finishing period on ex-cognac casks for 12 months, bottled at 46%.

The rum is a blend of distillates from three of the Caribbean's most respected rum-producing countries. The base is aged up to 12 years, after which it is moved onto ex-cognac casks for a further 12 months. The cognac casks give the rum a softer, more grape-sweet character on top of the powerful, molasses-heavy base, particularly from Jamaica and Guyana. The release is limited to 5,800 bottles.

The name is a nod to the German rock band, but the contents are pure Caribbean rum craftsmanship with no further connection to the music.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280224

Same farm, same sugar cane, but a completely different voice, column distillation tightens things up and lets the Dunfermline farm's character speak in a cleaner, more focused language than its pot still sibling.

    Expert Description

Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Column Still Dunfermline C1 is a Grenada Rum, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice from the Dunfermline farm on column stills and bottled unaged at 50%.

This is the column-distilled edition of Renegade's Dunfermline farm, the only truly inland farm the distillery works with, known for its Lacalome Red cane variety and its unusually powerful, grounded character. Where the pot still version delivers a thick and chewy profile, column distillation streamlines the distillate into a cleaner, more precise expression of the farm's terroir, without losing the mineral depth that defines the site.

The result is a clear, focused unaged rum that shows a different facet of the same farm compared to its pot still sibling.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Clean and green sugar cane with a light mineral undertone and a hint of citrus.

    Palate

Streamlined and clear with distinct cane sweetness, less thick than the pot still edition but equally intense.

    Finish

Where its sister release Old Bacolet sources its cane from the historic field of the same name, this bottle comes from the neighbouring New Bacolet, a different soil and a different flavour.

    Expert Description

Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask New Bacolet is a Grenada Rum, an unaged pot still rum distilled from fresh sugar cane juice from a single field, New Bacolet, bottled at 50%.

As with the house's other Pre Cask releases, the aim is to show how each individual field on Renegade's terroir map leaves a distinct mark on the finished distillate. New Bacolet sits close to Old Bacolet, but the soil conditions and microclimate differ, giving the rum a fresher, more floral profile than its sister from the clay-rich flood plain.

The result is a clean, delicate rum with notes of ripe stone fruit and a light salty undertone, more reminiscent of a quality white wine than a traditional rum.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh and floral with apricot, peach and daisies, plus sweet, tart cherries.

    Palate

Balanced between light salinity and a bitter, olive-like aromatic profile.

    Finish

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280221

Mark Reynier, the man behind Bruichladdich and Waterford, built a distillery in Grenada with the same philosophy he's known for in the whisky world: terroir is everything.

    Expert Description

Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Old Bacolet is a Grenada Rum, an unaged pot still rum distilled from fresh sugar cane juice from a single farm, Old Bacolet, harvested in 2020 and bottled at 50%.

Renegade Rum Distillery was founded by Mark Reynier, former owner of Bruichladdich and founder of Waterford Distillery, who brought his whisky philosophy of terroir to Grenada. The "Pre Cask" releases show the rum as it is straight from the still, without cask influence, to highlight how a single farm's soil, climate and location shape the flavour. Old Bacolet sits between two rivers on a clay-rich flood plain, a location that Renegade says has a huge influence on the finished distillate.

The result is a fresh, vegetal rum that shows the pure character of the sugar cane without wood's interference.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh sugar cane, sweet and vegetal, with powerful herbs, liquorice and a hint of charred grass.

    Palate

Light and crisp with pear and summer fruit, a touch of limey citrus and a hint of pepper.

    Expert Description

Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Pearls is a Grenada Rum, an unaged pot still rum distilled from fresh sugar cane juice of the Yellow Lady variety from a single field in the Pearls area, bottled at 50%.

Like the other Pre Cask releases from Renegade Rum Distillery, this bottle shows the rum straight from the still without cask influence, letting the field's pure character shine through. The cane was harvested from the field locally known as "Grapefruit", located on the Flats terroir, one of the areas Renegade tracks most closely in its work mapping how soil and location shape flavour. Only 1,632 bottles of this limited release were produced.

  • Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Pot Still Dunfermline P1 rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280223

Mark Reynier, the man behind the Waterford distillery in Ireland, moved his terroir obsession to Grenada and now lets the cane from a single mountain farm speak entirely for itself, with no cask ageing at all.

    Expert Description

Renegade Single Farm Origin Pre Cask Pot Still Dunfermline P1 is a Grenada Rum, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice from the Dunfermline farm and bottled unaged at 50%.

Renegade Rum Distillery was founded in 2015 by Mark Reynier, who previously led the acclaimed Waterford distillery in Ireland and made terroir a central concept in whisky. On Grenada, he applies the same philosophy to rum, where the Pre Cask series, launched in winter 2021, highlights unaged rum from single farms to show the cane's pure character without cask influence. Dunfermline is the only truly inland farm the distillery works with, situated on the slopes of the St Andrews mountains in northeastern Grenada, and differs from the more coastal fields by delivering big, bold flavours.

The result is a chewy and remarkably complex unaged rum that shows the cane's raw power without filter.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh and green sugar cane with earthy, mineral tones from the inland farm.

    Palate

Chewy and complex with intense cane sweetness and a distinct, grounded character.

    Finish

Fresh and lingering with raw cane power that lives on long after each sip.

  • Rogue Hazelnut Spice Oregon Rum USA 40%
    Item no.: 22227865416-320

Fog rolls in over Yaquina Bay, and the smell of salt water hangs in the air around the old shipyard buildings on the waterfront in Newport. Here, where Oregon's coast meets the Pacific, the casks stand and breathe with the tide. And a few miles inland the hazelnuts ripen in the Willamette Valley.

    Expert description

Rogue Hazelnut Spice Oregon Rum USA is an American Spiced Rum aged in Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Rogue Spirits in Newport, Oregon, which opened the state's first rum distillery. Rogue is best known as a brewery, and it shows in the way they work. The distillate is made in 567-litre "grundies" from Hawaiian cane sugar, champagne yeast and coastal water. Each batch is double distilled, and the distillate is then filtered through charcoal by hand.

Then the rum goes into cask. Rogue uses its own spent Dead Guy Whiskey casks, which mature out by the bay, where salt air and shifting temperatures work on the wood. That is the ageing that gives the finish its bourbon-like, dry character.

The spicing is the other half of the story. Rogue adds roasted hazelnuts from Kirk Family Filberts, a family-run farm neighbouring Rogue Farms in the Wigrich Appellation, along with orange peel, Madagascar bourbon vanilla pod, cinnamon and cloves. The nuts are roasted before they go in, which is why the sweetness in the glass tastes of toasted nut rather than nut liqueur.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Toasted hazelnut straight away. Behind it lies brown sugar, a touch of orange peel and a warm scent of cinnamon.

    Palate

Medium-bodied and soft. Vanilla, cinnamon and cloves roll into one another, while the nut stays in the background throughout.

    Finish

Dries out towards oak and vanilla with a bourbon-like pull from the cask. Short to medium.

    Did You Know?

The name Dead Guy comes from a Día de los Muertos poster Rogue made for their Maierbock in the early 1990s. The skeleton became so popular that it ended up naming both a beer and later a whiskey - and thereby also the casks behind this rum.

  • RomDeLuxe Australia Handcraftet Rum Batch 1 white rum bottle
    Item no.: 2222786543333-669320

Australia isn't the first country that comes to mind when the talk turns to rum. But RomDeLuxe found a tiny craft distillery down under, and the result is a white rum so powerful it practically leaps out of the glass.

    Expert Description

RomDeLuxe Australia Handcraftet Rum Batch 1 is a White Rum from Australia, bottled unfiltered and unaged at a full 84%.

The rum is sourced from Killik Handcrafted Rum, a small Australian distillery, and brought to Denmark by RomDeLuxe, the Danish independent bottler that has specialised since 2016 in finding and bottling rums with a clear, immediate character rather than age or rarity. This Batch 1 is a so-called "new make", a rum that has been distilled but not cask aged, giving a pure glimpse into the distillate's raw power.

Fermentation is wild and uncontrolled, giving the rum an unusual richness of esters, the aromatic compounds that create fruity and floral notes. At 84%, this is a rum for those who want to meet the spirit completely unfiltered.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Intense and fermented with tropical fruit, banana and a sharp, alcoholic edge that underscores the wild fermentation.

    Palate

Powerful and pure with cane juice, ester-rich fruitiness and a burning warmth that fills the whole mouth.

    Finish

Long and intense, where the fruity esters linger long after the initial powerful heat has settled.
