  • RomDeLuxe Selected Series no 4 Caribbean Blend rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19584

Two countries, one blend. Caribbean Blend brings together rum from Guyana and the Dominican Republic through a solera-like process, showing what happens when two very different rum traditions meet.

    Expert Description

RomDeLuxe Selected Series Rum no. 4 Caribbean Blend is a Caribbean Rum blended from rum from Guyana and the Dominican Republic, aged 12 years through a solera process and bottled at 42%.

The blend unites the heavy, molasses-driven character of Guyanese rum with the softer, cleaner style of Dominican rum, all cask-aged in American ex-bourbon casks. The solera process means younger and older rum are continuously blended together, giving a consistent, deeply complex character. RomDeLuxe selected this combination as the fourth release in the house's Selected Series to show how two rum nations' styles can reinforce each other in a single bottle.

The result is a sweet but well-balanced rum, where caramel and burnt wood provide richness without becoming overwhelming.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

    Palate

Sweet and round with caramel, vanilla and a hint of burnt wood.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19645

The sixth release in RomDeLuxe's Selected Series crosses the Atlantic, where Guyana's heavy, molasses-driven rum heritage meets an entirely different continent in a single blend.

    Expert Description

RomDeLuxe Selected Series Rum no. 6 Sailors Choice is a Rum blended from rum from Guyana and India, aged 12 years through a solera system and bottled at 42%.

The blend unites the heavy, molasses-driven character of Guyanese rum with rum from India, a far more unusual origin in the rum world, all cask-aged in American bourbon casks. RomDeLuxe selected this exact combination as the sixth release in the house's Selected Series to show how two very different rum traditions can merge into a single round, sweet profile.

The name Sailors Choice refers to the classic British navy rum style, where powerful sweetness and body were traditionally preferred by sailors on long voyages.

From the highlands of Costa Rica comes this solera-aged rum, where casks up to twenty years old are blended to create a deep, brandy-like character rarely seen in Caribbean rum.

    Expert Description

Ron Centenario Fundacion 20 Year Aniversario is a Costa Rica Rum aged up to 20 years in American white oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced using the solera method, where 80% of the casks originate from Costa Rica's highland distilleries and 20% from the lowlands. In solera blending, younger and older distillates are continuously combined, so the oldest content in the bottle can be up to 20 years old, while the overall character achieves a complexity typically associated with Spanish brandy tradition.

    Expert description

Ron Cristobal Santa Maria 2009 Vintage is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, distilled in 2009 and matured in bourbon casks, bottled at 46%.

  • Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Calvados Finish rum with ship label
    Item no.: 2222786542225-791

Apple orchards in Normandy meet sugar cane from the Dominican Republic. The Santa Maria series is where Ron Cristobal dares to experiment, and this Calvados cask gives the rum a streak of fresh fruit rarely found elsewhere in the range.

    Expert Description

Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Calvados Finish is a Dominican Rum finished in French Calvados casks and bottled at 42%.

The bottle belongs to the Santa Maria series, Ron Cristobal's prestige line, where each release gets an extra maturation in a chosen cask after the base ageing in the Dominican Republic. The base spirit was distilled in 2010 at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and rested in oak casks before being transferred to Calvados casks that previously held apple brandy from Normandy. Bottling took place in June 2024 with a total outturn of 2,192 bottles, making this a limited release.

The Calvados cask pulls a different character forward than the classic sherry and port finishes the series is known for. The apple acidity from the cask lays a fresh layer over the rum's natural sweetness, while the cask's former brandy content adds a touch of warmth without weighing the rum down.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Green apples and a light acidity meet caramel and soft vanilla, with a hint of freshly baked apple pie in the background.

    Palate

Full and round with ripe apples, brown sugar and a lightly spiced warmth from the cask that ties the rum's sweetness together with its Calvados heritage.

    Finish

Long and dry, where the apple notes fade out alongside a hint of oak and a touch of pepper.

  • Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Red Wine Cask Finish rum with ship label
    Item no.: 2222786542225-792

Red grapes from European vineyards get to leave their mark on a Dominican Rum. In the Santa Maria series it's the rule rather than the exception that the unexpected cask makes the best story, and this red wine cask is nothing short of a colourful finale.

    Expert Description

Ron Cristobal Santa Maria Red Wine Cask Finish is a Dominican Rum finished in red wine casks and bottled at 42%.

Like the rest of the Santa Maria series, the base rum is distilled at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and aged in traditional oak casks before being transferred to casks that previously held red wine from European vineyards. The casks impart tannins and colour compounds from the grapes not otherwise found in a standard Dominican Rum, and the result sits somewhere between rum and a lightly wine-like dessert spirit.

The red wine cask pulls fruit and tannin forward without masking the rum's underlying character of brown sugar and tropical fruit. It's a finish well suited to closing out a meal or standing alone as an afternoon dram.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe red grapes and orange peel, spiced with a hint of cloves and a touch of char from the cask.

    Palate

Wine-like and fruity with notes of orange and brown sugar, where the red wine's tannins provide a dry, taut structure.

The rum is made by the American house Phenomenal Spirits, founded by Karthik Sudhir, who left a career in software for a passion for rum. The Izalco volcano, also called the "Lighthouse of the Pacific", stands 1,965 metres tall and from 1770 to 1958 served as a fixed landmark for sailors, who for 188 years could navigate safely to harbour by its glowing crater.

    Expert description

Ron Sostenible Experimental Cask 8 Year Rioja Finish is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, finished in former Rioja wine casks and bottled at 43%.

The rum is distilled from locally grown sugar cane in the Dominican Republic and matured for at least 8 years before undergoing its final, experimental cask finish - this time in casks that previously held Rioja wine from northern Spain. Sugarcane juice instead of molasses, and a solera system borrowed from the world of sherry – it is no accident that Ron Zacapa 23 has become one of the world's most recognisable rums.

    Expert description

Ron Zacapa 23 is a Ron de Guatemala, composed through a Sistema Solera and bottled at 40%.

Unlike most rums, Ron Zacapa is made from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, and the rum matures at a facility in Guatemala's highlands, where the natural cooling affects the maturation. The solera system, in which younger and older rums are gradually blended through stacked casks of American oak, sherry and Pedro Ximénez wine, gives Ron Zacapa 23 its characteristic, layered sweetness.

    Tasting notes

    Finish

Ron Zacapa was created in 1976 to mark the centenary of the town of Zacapa in Guatemala, and the rum is deliberately matured at a high-altitude facility, where the natural cooling makes maturation slower than traditional Caribbean ageing at sea level.

  • Woven palm-leaf label on round bottle, Ron Zacapa Ambar
    Item no.: 22227865395-8251

Ambar is the lighter, more accessible side of Zacapa, made to introduce Guatemalan Solera craft without overwhelming.

    Expert description

Ron Zacapa Ambar 12 Solera Reserva is a Ron de Guatemala matured in a Sistema Solera and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced in the Guatemalan highlands at altitudes of up to 2,300 metres, where the cool climate slows evaporation and allows a gentler, slower maturation than in many other rum-producing countries. The Ambar expression is composed as a lighter, fresher and fruitier variant of the house style compared to the darker, heavier Centenario releases, and is sold here in a 100 cl bottle.

    Tasting notes

Light and fresh with citrus, honey, vanilla and a touch of oak.

    Palate

Soft and balanced with notes of dried fruit, caramel, honey and a discreet spiciness, plus hints of orange peel, almond and cinnamon.

    Finish

Medium length, velvety and pleasantly sweet.

    Did you know?

Zacapa's rum isn't matured at sea level like most other Caribbean rums, but in the Guatemalan highlands, where a phenomenon called "the Angel's Share above the Clouds" means the casks lose less alcohol to evaporation than in the warmer tropical lowlands.
