The project is in full swing and we visit the wonderful, funny and quirky existences that work hard to cask age the liquid joy of life that good whisky can be. Not to create a taste guide to Danish whisky, but to tell the stories of the people behind this small but powerful Danish entrepreneurial adventure. Hopefully, the book will inspire you to visit the many enthusiasts around the country. They have both good stories and good whisky to offer. The book is designed and conceptualized at Gren&Lund, the stories are written by journalist Per Gregersen and published by Byens Forlag. • Connemara 12 Year Old Peated Irish Single Malt Whiskey bottle
    Item no.: 22227865382-12

Twelve years of maturation gives Connemara's peated style extra depth, without losing the rustic, earthy character the brand is known for.

    Expert Review

Connemara 12 Year Old is a peated Irish Single Malt Whiskey matured for 12 years, bottled at 40%.

The whiskey builds on Connemara's signature style, where the malt is dried over peat fire following Irish tradition. With 12 years of maturation, the peat character has time to merge with notes of honey, malt and oak, giving a more complex and full-bodied experience than the brand's younger release. The whiskey shares the same light, golden colour, but a deeper and more rounded flavour profile.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Smoky peat with mature notes of honey and oak.

    Palate

Full and complex, with malt, dried fruit and a warm peat character.

  • Bottle of Armorik Classic from the Breton distillery Warenghem
    Item no.: 22227865459-2150

In Brittany, where the Atlantic shapes both weather and grain, Warenghem distils a whisky that insists on being French from the ground up.

    Expert's description

Armorik Classic is a Single Breton Malt Whisky from the Warenghem distillery, bottled at 46 percent.

Armorik is named after Brittany's old Celtic name and is made from Breton barley and French wheat - a combination that gives the whisky a different character to most Scotch malts. Warenghem was the first French distillery to commit seriously to whisky, and Armorik Classic remains the house's most accessible bottling.

Warenghem is Brittany's first whisky distillery and has been distilling since the early 1900s, long before French whisky was a category most people had heard of. Armorik - the region's old Celtic name - is the distillery's flagship and a reminder that whisky isn't only a Scottish and Irish craft.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers ripe grain and light honey, with a creamy character of vanilla and a hint of fresh fruit.

    Palate

The palate is round and gently sweet with notes of apple and caramel, carried by a soft grain character typical of the house style.

    Expert description

Port Charlotte 10 Year Old Heavily Peated is a peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Bruichladdich, matured in bourbon and wine casks and bottled at 50%.

    Expert Description

Arran 1999/2020 Adelphi Selection 20 Year Old FC Whisky is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in cask number 465 and bottled at 52.5%.

The final chapter. After twenty-seven years the peat has become something else — barbecued meat, coal dust and rock salt, as Douglas Laing themselves described it when the bottle was let loose in 2019.

    The expert's description

Big Peat 27 years Vintage 1992 The Black Edition is an Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 48.3 %.

The whiskies were distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2019 in an outturn of 3,000 bottles, without chill filtration and without added colour. It is the closing release in the Vintage Series trilogy.

The series began with the Gold Edition at 25 years in 2017 and continued with the Platinum Edition at 26 years in 2018. The Black Edition closes the row and is at once the oldest and the most restrained of the three in strength.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Coal dust, barbecued meat and rock salt. Beneath the heavy smoke lie dried figs, coffee and a hint of old oak.

    Palate

Deep and broad with ash, black pepper and salted caramel. The 48.3 % makes it softer than its two predecessors, and the texture is clearly oily.

Very long and dry with smoke, cocoa beans and a mineral salt edge.

The island of Als does not have many distilleries. In fact, there is only one — Destilleriet Als. And this is their first bottle. FIRST RELEASE at 58% is a debut expression in the most literal sense: the first whisky to leave the distillery on Als.

    Expert description

Destilleriet Als FIRST RELEASE is a Danish Single Malt Whisky at 58%, bottled at 50 cl as the first expression from Destilleriet Als. The distillery is located on the island of Als in southern Jutland and produces Single Malt Whisky from Danish barley. A first release from a new micro-distillery is always an event — it marks the beginning of a production and gives whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to follow the distillery's development from its very first casks.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and direct with young malt and oak. Sweetness from the casks and a light spirity undertone that opens with water.

    Palate

Powerful at 58%. Sweet malt and oak with light spice. A young character that bodes well for future expressions from the distillery.

    Finish

Malt whisky that has travelled overseas and back, bottled with the sherry world's precision.

    Expert description

Equipo Navazos Single Cask La Bota de Malt Whisky Bota 88 Overseas is a single-cask malt whisky around 12 years old, with a cask history involving maturation overseas, bottled at 46%. Equipo Navazos started in 2005 as a group of Spanish sherry enthusiasts led by Jesús Barquín and Eduardo Ojeda, who found 65 casks of exceptionally fine, over 20-year-old Amontillado hidden away in a bodega in Sanlúcar. Together with a circle of friends, they bought one cask and released it under the name La Bota de Amontillado — the first in what is now the celebrated, chronologically numbered La Bota series. Since then, Equipo Navazos has expanded its repertoire to include white wine, brandy, rum and whisky, always with the same philosophy: finding and bottling exceptional, often overlooked casks.

    Expert's Description

Bunnahabhain Staoisha 2013/2019 A. D. Rattray 5 Years Old is a Single Islay Malt Whisky matured in a bourbon hogshead and bottled at cask strength, 60.1%.

  • Mossburn Fettercairn Single Highland Malt Whisky bottle from a bourbon cask
    Item no.: 22227865392-18769

Ten years is not long in whisky terms, and that is exactly the point here. Fettercairn is allowed to be young, bright and fruity before the oak starts deciding how the whole thing should taste.

    The expert description

Fettercairn 2008/2018 Mossburn 10 Years Old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in an American standard barrel and bottled at 46%.

Mossburn is an independent bottler that sent out its first bottles in 2017 with the simple idea that whisky should be bottled at a minimum of 46%, without colouring and without chill filtration. This release was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2018 from batch 30.1008.18.

The cask is an American Standard Barrel, an ex-bourbon cask of around 200 litres. It is the smallest of the common cask sizes, so the wood works faster, and even after ten years there is plenty of vanilla and oak in the glass without the fruitiness of the distillery disappearing.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and young. Green apple and pear first, then vanilla, coconut and a light cereal note from the malt.

    Palate

Bright and crisp with citrus peel, white peach and vanilla custard, while the oak lays a dry, lightly peppered edge underneath.

    Finish

Medium and clean with malt, a touch of ginger and a final note of fresh oak.

    Item no.: 22227865449-18756

Amber gold in the glass and three different sherry casks behind the scenes. Sherry Cask Edition is Tamnavulin's most layered everyday whisky, where each cask has left its own mark.

    Expert description

Tamnavulin Sherry Cask Edition is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky, matured in American oak casks and finished in three different types of sherry cask, bottled at 40%.

Where Double Cask relies on a single type of used sherry cask for its finish, Sherry Cask Edition goes a step further and combines three different sherry cask types. That gives the whisky a broader layer of complexity without losing the underlying Speyside expression from the American oak. Combining several cask types is a technique often used to achieve a more layered sweetness than a single cask can deliver alone.

The result is an amber-gold whisky where caramel, dried fruit and spice play off each other across several layers, from nose to finish.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla, caramel and banana, accompanied by notes of milk chocolate and a hint of fresh ginger.

    Palate

Layers of maple syrup, raisin and orange with hints of apricot and melon.

    Finish

Thirty-five years in a refill butt. A whisky distilled before Signatory Vintage even existed, bottled to celebrate the company's 30 years as an independent bottler.

    Expert description

Teaninich 1983/2018 is a 35-year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled on 7 December 1983 and bottled on 12 December 2018 by Signatory Vintage at 57.5% ABV.

The whisky comes from a refill butt, cask no. 8070, and was bottled in just 575 bottles as part of Signatory Vintage's 30th anniversary celebrations. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and the many years of maturation in the reused cask have given the spirit great depth without letting oak dominate.

By the icy waters of the Ångermanälven, High Coast distillery matures a whisky that insists on showing off American oak, no detours, no apologies. American Oak is the distillery's pure take on what bourbon casks can do for a Nordic spirit.

    The Expert's Description

Box Whisky American Oak is a Swedish Single Malt Whisky matured in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled at 50.8%.

Maturation takes place exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks of American white oak, giving a clean and intense whisky experience with clear cask influence. The combination of High Coast's pure spirit and the strong cask character results in a whisky that is both youthfully fresh and complex.

  • Bottle of Bruichladdich 2010 Islay Barley, locally grown grain from the island
    Item no.: 22227865406-barley

2010 Islay Barley is a tribute to local farmers. The grain is grown on Islay itself, and the whisky shows what terroir means when the land is allowed to speak through the glass.

    Expert description

Bruichladdich 2010 Islay Barley is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled from locally grown barley and bottled at 50%.

The grain for this release is grown by local farmers on Islay, part of Bruichladdich's ongoing work to show how the island's own soil shapes flavour. The whisky is matured in a combination of American and French oak casks.

The result is an unpeated single malt where the grain's earthy character and the sweetness of the casks play off each other with no peat to complicate the picture.
