Thirty-five years in a refill butt. A whisky distilled before Signatory Vintage even existed, bottled to celebrate the company's 30 years as an independent bottler.

    Expert description

Teaninich 1983/2018 is a 35-year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled on 7 December 1983 and bottled on 12 December 2018 by Signatory Vintage at 57.5% ABV.

The whisky comes from a refill butt, cask no. 8070, and was bottled in just 575 bottles as part of Signatory Vintage's 30th anniversary celebrations. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and the many years of maturation in the reused cask have given the spirit great depth without letting oak dominate.

At 35 years old, this Teaninich ranks among the rarest releases from the distillery, where most official bottlings are typically far younger.

    Palate

Silky smooth, with notes of honey, dried apricot and a light spiced warmth.

Frequently asked questions about Teaninich 1983/2018

Is a 35-year-old Teaninich worth the investment?

With only 575 bottles from a single refill butt, 35 years of maturation and status as an anniversary release from the renowned bottler Signatory Vintage, this is one of the rarest and most sought-after Teaninich releases on the market.

What does 30th Anniversary on the label mean?

It refers to the bottle being released to mark Signatory Vintage's 30 years as an independent whisky bottler, celebrated in 2018.

    What is a refill butt?

It is a large oak cask, typically holding around 500 litres, that has previously been used to mature other whisky, giving a gentler oak influence.

    How many bottles were released?

575 bottles were filled from cask no. 8070.

    Is the whisky chill-filtered?

No, it is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, preserving the natural character built up over its long maturation.

    Who is Signatory Vintage?

It is one of Scotland's best-known independent bottlers, founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington.

Why is 35 years an unusual age for a Teaninich?

Most official Teaninich bottlings are considerably younger, making a whisky with this much maturation rare on the market.
