In Brittany, where the Atlantic shapes both weather and grain, Warenghem distils a whisky that insists on being French from the ground up.

    Expert's description

Armorik Classic is a Single Breton Malt Whisky from the Warenghem distillery, bottled at 46 percent.

Armorik is named after Brittany's old Celtic name and is made from Breton barley and French wheat - a combination that gives the whisky a different character to most Scotch malts. Warenghem was the first French distillery to commit seriously to whisky, and Armorik Classic remains the house's most accessible bottling.

Warenghem is Brittany's first whisky distillery and has been distilling since the early 1900s, long before French whisky was a category most people had heard of. Armorik - the region's old Celtic name - is the distillery's flagship and a reminder that whisky isn't only a Scottish and Irish craft.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers ripe grain and light honey, with a creamy character of vanilla and a hint of fresh fruit.

    Palate

The palate is round and gently sweet with notes of apple and caramel, carried by a soft grain character typical of the house style.

    Finish

The finish is short to medium with a warm, lightly peppery close and a last touch of vanilla.

Frequently asked questions about Armorik Classic Warenghem Frankrig Single Malt Whisky 46%

What does the name Armorik mean?

Armorik is the old Celtic name for Brittany, underlining that this whisky is deeply rooted in the French region where it's made.

Is Armorik Classic a peated whisky?

No, Armorik Classic is unpeated. It offers a soft, grainy and lightly fruity profile without any smoke.

What makes this whisky different from Scotch single malt?

It's made from Breton barley and French wheat instead of exclusively Scotch barley, giving it a different, more grain-forward and rounded character.

How many years has Armorik Classic been aged?

The bottle carries no age statement, so the distillery focuses deliberately on character rather than a specific number of years.

How should this whisky be enjoyed?

Try it at room temperature in a nosing glass, or with a single ice cube if you prefer a cooler, more restrained profile.

Is this a good choice for a whisky beginner?

Yes, the soft and lightly fruity style makes Armorik Classic an accessible first encounter with French whisky.
