  • Crabbie 8 years blended Scotch whisky bottle with original carton
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197185

Most people know the Crabbie name from ginger wine. Fewer know the Leith house also sold whisky — and that bottles from those days still turn up with the carton intact.

    Expert description

Crabbie 8 years Blended Old Scotch Whisky is a Blended Scotch Whisky matured for at least 8 years and bottled at 43%.

John Crabbie & Co was founded in Edinburgh in the early 1800s and became world famous for its green ginger wine, but the house also traded and blended whisky. This release comes with its original carton, which makes a noticeable difference to a collector, since packaging was rarely kept. The 43% strength and the eight year age statement place it in an era when blends were still bottled with a little more body than today.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Malt and dried fruit first, then honey, pale caramel and a dusty note from the years in glass.

    Palate

Round and malty. Raisin, orange peel, cereal and a little vanilla, with a warm spiced edge from the 43%. The mouthfeel is softer than today's standard blends.

    Finish

Medium and dry, with malt, nuts and a lightly smoked close.

    Region/Country: Scotland
    Type: Blended Scotch Whisky

    Investment potential

High. A discontinued release with an age statement and the original carton intact. Older blends carrying eight years on the label have become a niche collectors actively hunt.

50 bottles. That is all there is of Ardor Batch 116 from Nyborg Distillery. An organic Danish Single Malt Whisky at 59.8% from the bourbon-influenced white oak casks that give Isle of Fionia its crisp, fruity expression.

    Expert description

Isle of Fionia Ardor Batch 116 is an organic Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 59.8% from the Ardor series at Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery. The distillery is housed in the historic DSB train depot in Nyborg, Funen. This release was matured exclusively in white oak casks previously used for bourbon in the United States – a cask type known for imparting fruity sweetness, vanilla and a fresh character. Made from 100% organic barley and distilled in copper pot stills. Only 50 bottles produced.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and explosively fruity – green apples, young pear and loose vanilla from the bourbon oak. A light sweetish note of preserved fruit complements the clean malt base.

    Palate

Light, fruity and sweet with classic bourbon cask character. Green fruit and juicy apple dominate, and at 59.8% there is enough strength to carry the sweetness without becoming heavy.

    Finish

Fresh and short to medium length with a warm, lightly sweet oak close.

Medium. With only 50 bottles, Ardor Batch 116 is among the rarest releases from Nyborg Distillery. The extreme limitation and the distillery's growing collector appeal make this a notable bottling.

    Did you know?

Bourbon casks from the United States are made of white oak and, under American law, may only be used once for bourbon. They are then exported around the world – and Nyborg Distillery is among those who have recognised the potential of these used casks for creating fruity, approachable Danish single malts.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197142

Rum and Speyside are not an obvious pairing. The rum pulls the whisky towards molasses and baked banana, and that suits a spirit which already brings the fruit.

    The Expert's Description

Auchroisk 2009/2019 Hepburns Choice 10 Years Old is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky finished in a rum cask and bottled at 46%. The cask gave 182 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

A rum cask finish typically lasts from a few months to a couple of years. The rum’s sugarcane character lays molasses, brown sugar and baked fruit over the whisky’s own profile, without removing the underlying malt character.

Hepburns Choice is Hunter Laing’s range of single casks from younger whisky, often with a finish. Auchroisk was built in 1974 to supply malt for the J&B blend, and the distillery’s bright, citrus-driven style gives the rum cask something to work with.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweetness first, with molasses and brown sugar clearly to the fore. Vanilla, banana and a light citrus note from the spirit sit beneath.

    Palate

Sweet and full. Molasses and baked banana open, then vanilla, a lightly spiced oak note and a dry close to the sweetness arrive. At 46% the body is good, and the whisky holds its balance.

    Finish

Medium and sweet. Molasses, vanilla and a dry, lightly spiced close.

  • Lakes Distillery Faith Single Malt Whisky bottle
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19601

Striding Edge is one of the most exposed walking routes in the Lake District - a narrow ridge of rock with steep drops on both sides. Walking it takes faith. Faith is named for exactly that feeling, and it carries the same intensity in the glass.

    Expert's Description

Lakes Distillery Faith Single Malt Whisky is an English single malt whisky matured in Spanish and American oak casks and bottled at 56.5% ABV.

Faith was the first release in The Lakes Distillery's Quatrefoil Collection in 2018, a series named after the distillery's four core values: faith, hope, luck and love. The whisky was first matured in Spanish and American oak casks seasoned with Bourbon and Oloroso sherry, then given a second maturation in PX hogsheads of Spanish and American oak. The result is a complex single malt with comforting notes of dried fruit, vanilla and a hint of cinnamon.

The Quatrefoil Collection is now held in The Lakes Distillery's archive and is no longer part of ongoing production, making Faith a closed release from the distillery's early years on the banks of the River Derwent in Cumbria.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Clear sherry character with apricot pastry, mirabelle marmalade and dried apricots, spiced with a touch of cinnamon and vanilla.

    Palate

A sweet arrival with a touch of sourness - grapefruit ahead of apricot and mirabelle - in fine balance between the spice of the wood and the sweetness of the malt.

    Finish

Surprisingly long, sweet and slightly sour with a mild, drying close.

    Item no.: 22227865365-78790

Nine years on first fill sherry casks is not a long time — but it is enough when the wood is this active. There is a youthful energy here that older bottlings rarely have.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 2007/2016 James Eadie 9 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in first fill Sherry Butts and bottled at 46 %.

The release is a small batch from two first fill sherry casks, distilled in 2007 and emptied in 2016. It produced 1,308 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

James Eadie is a name with roots back to 1854, when the brewer James Eadie began blending whisky in Burton upon Trent. The brand was revived by his great-great-grandson in 2015 and today bottles single cask and small batch releases with unusual transparency about cask type and origin.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Crisp and fruity with yellow apple, mango and cream toffee. The sherry shows as dried fig rather than dark sweetness.

    Palate

Sweetness from the first sip, quickly followed by malt, vanilla and white pepper. Apricot and a hint of cinnamon give it breadth, and the 46 % holds it all together.

  • Bottle of Thornæs Åro Danish Single Malt Raw Spirit 20 cl
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19574

Before the cask. Before the maturation. Thornæs Åro is the pure distillate – what will become whisky when it meets oak. A 20 cl new make at 58% from North Zealand for those who want to understand the starting point.

    Expert description

Thornæs Åro is a Danish Single Malt Raw Spirit bottled at 58% from Thornæs Distillery in North Zealand. It is an unaged new make – the distillate in its purest form before cask maturation. Raw spirit as a category is interesting to taste because it gives a clear picture of what the organic North Zealand malt distillate is made of: grain, water and fermentation. No cask has yet left its mark. The bottle comes in 20 cl – a good format for tasting and for the curious whisky drinker who wants to learn Thornæs from the ground up. The name Åro likely refers to a part of Thornæs Distillery's identity or terroir in North Zealand.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and grainy – the organic malt is clear. Sweetish grain notes, perhaps a touch of peach, and a purity that only belongs to unaged new make spirit.

    Palate

58% gives warmth and intensity. Grain and yeast are central – a clear and precise flavour without cask influence. Interesting to taste if you are used to aged whisky, as the contrast is significant.

    Finish

Warm and clear with the organic grain's clean imprint. No cask character, no maturation influence.

Raw spirit – also called new make or white dog – is the very foundation of all whisky. What separates it from whisky is maturation alone. Tasting raw spirit like Thornæs Åro gives a unique insight into what a distillery works with from day one – and what happens when oak and time leave their mark.

A refill cask from 2006 sat quietly maturing while the world outside changed. When it was finally tapped in 2016, it turned out to hold one of the most ash-laden, smoky expressions of Croftengea you can find.

    Expert's Description

Croftengea 2006/2016 is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a refill cask and bottled at 46%.

The whisky was distilled in 2006 under Loch Lomond's heavily peated Croftengea profile and rested in a single refill cask until being bottled in 2016 by independent bottler Cooper's Choice. Only 725 bottles were filled from this one cask.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Rich and heavy with plums, figs and dates – no smoke on the nose.

    Palate

Smoke and ashy tobacco meet milk chocolate, smoked meat and oily malt, with a touch of pink peppercorn and sweet toffee.

Short but sweet finish that dries out with cracked peppercorns and a lingering hint of bonfire embers.

    Item no.: 22227865482-97590

No age. No cask influence. Just the pure distillate – exactly as it left the copper pot stills at Thy Whisky Distillery. Destillat 1 is the beginning of everything.

    Expert description

Thy Whisky Destillat 1 is a Danish New Make bottled at 40% in a 50 cl bottle. A raw spirit – unpeated, unaged distillate of certified organic barley, undiluted from the characteristic copper pot stills at Thy Whisky Distillery in Thy. New make is whisky's starting point: the distillate that is then filled into casks and over time becomes whisky. Tasting Destillat 1 is tasting the foundation for what Thy Whisky then builds upon.

For whisky enthusiasts, new make spirit is a unique window into the distillery's soul. Here there is no cask character, no age – only the pure taste of the distillate, the grain and the distillation process.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and green with malt sweetness, herbs and a touch of citrus. Purity is the key word.

    Palate

Light and fresh with the grain's natural sweetness and soft texture. No heavy notes – just the distillate's true character.

New make spirit – unaged distillate – is technically not whisky, as whisky by definition must have spent at least three years in a cask. Nevertheless it is an incredibly important part of understanding a distillery, as it reveals the raw spirit's character without the influence of casks.

    Item no.: 22227865360-88202

A single cask. 202 bottles. An Islay malt that spent 17 years building its story. Bowmore 2002/2020 from Adelphi is not just a bottling — it's a celebration cast in glass.

    Expert's description

Bowmore 2002/2020 Adelphi FC Anniversary 17 Year is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled as a Single Cask at 60.8%. Distilled at Bowmore on 5 October 2002 and bottled on 12 February 2020 from cask no. 20128 — undiluted and entirely unfiltered. Only 202 bottles. A very specific, very Danish bottling made to celebrate FC Whisky Danmark's 20 years in the business.

Behind Adelphi Selection stand two whisky enthusiasts who over 20 years built what started as a hobby project into an import business with a meticulously curated portfolio. Their approach is uncompromising: of 25 tested casks, Adelphi will typically approve one. That is the standard this bottle was bottled to.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Rich and concentrated. Darkly caramelised fruit, orange peel and a powerful gust of Islay's maritime smoke — salt, seaweed and coastal air mingle with fat vanilla and warm spice.

    Palate

Powerful at 60.8% — best with a drop of water, where dark fruits open up: figs, raisins and a round sweetness. Bowmore's characteristic peat runs all the way through.

    Finish

Long and warming. Oak, salt and a gentle bitterness. The smoke holds on for a dry, mineral close.

Not everyone needs a full bottle to meet Kilchoman for the first time. This 20cl edition of Machir Bay is the perfect size to get acquainted with Islay's freshest peated whisky, without committing to a full 70cl bottle.

    Expert's description

Kilchoman Machir Bay 20cl is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46 %.

The whisky is exactly the same as in the full 70cl bottle — a blend of 3, 4 and 5 year old bourbon casks, where the 4 year old casks receive a finishing period of around eight weeks in sherry casks. The smaller bottle makes it ideal as an introduction, a travel format, or a small, natural gift idea.

    Expert description

WhistlePig Farmstock Batch 001 Rye Whiskey is a blend of rye whiskey from different ageing periods, bottled at 43%. WhistlePig was founded by Dave Pickerell, former master distiller at Maker's Mark and often called the 'godfather of craft distilling', who bought an old dairy farm in Shoreham, Vermont, in 2007. Pickerell took a bold gamble by investing in 10-year-old rye whiskey from an undisclosed Canadian distillery, made from 100% rye, at a time when rye whiskey had not yet been rediscovered by the American market. The distillery officially opened in 2015 in a renovated 150-year-old barn and is today the world's most awarded producer of rye whiskey.

The poet of music meets the craft of bourbon in this Tennessee-based bottling.

    Expert description

Heaven's Door Straight Tennessee Bourbon Whiskey is the brand's bourbon expression, bottled at 42%. Heaven's Door was created through a collaboration between music legend Bob Dylan and spirits entrepreneur Marc Bushala, officially launched in 2018. The name is drawn from Dylan's classic 1973 song 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door', and the brand is meant as a tribute to his passion for American whiskey's history and storytelling tradition. The distinctive iron gates featured on the bottles were created by Dylan himself at his own metalworking shop, Black Buffalo Ironworks, and several editions have showcased his paintings on hand-made ceramic bottles.
