City-specific Chichibu releases like Paris Edition are among the most collected bottles from the distillery, and secondary market prices often significantly exceed the original release price.

    Item no.: 22227865388-2021-02-0002

On an almost deserted island in the Norwegian Sea, a couple rescued whisky's future with a Hungarian dance in the name.

    Expert description

Myken Hungarian Dance 2020 is a Norwegian Single Malt Whisky, bottled at 47%, distilled at Myken, the world's first Arctic whisky distillery and Norway's only dedicated whisky distillery. The distillery was founded by Roar Larsen and his wife Trude Tokle, who in 2014 were sailing the Norwegian coast with their four children when bad weather pushed them onto the almost deserted island of Myken, barely 400 metres wide. At the time, only a handful of pensioners remained on the island. The family fell in love with the place and established a distillery that has since revived the island community. The whisky is distilled using desalinated seawater and matured in the distillery's warehouse, known as 'The Whisky Cathedral', where the Arctic climate's dramatic temperature swings drive a distinctive maturation.

A hand-drawn label, a wink of humour, and a Highland malt that never takes itself too seriously.

    Expert description

Teaninich 10 Year Old Batch 3 is a Single Highland Malt Whisky, bottled by independent bottler That Boutique-Y Whisky Company at 49.2% ABV.

Behind the colourful, hand-drawn label sits a serious release from the Teaninich distillery near Alness in the northern Highlands. Batch 3 is one of several instalments in the company's ongoing series of Teaninich bottlings, and at 2,893 bottles it is a relatively large batch, letting more whisky lovers experience the spirit's character.

The elevated 49.2% strength adds extra texture and body without overwhelming Teaninich's signature lightness and gently oily cereal notes.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh cereal, green apples and a light waxy scent that reflects the distillery's clean spirit character.

    Item no.: 2225566887-9852

That Boutique-Y puts cartoons on the label and batch numbers instead of cask numbers. Beneath the slightly unserious surface sits a very serious approach to finding casks from distilleries that otherwise never appear under their own name.

    The expert's description

Benrinnes 11 years Batch 11 That Boutique-Y Whisky Company is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky bottled at 49 % in a 50 centilitre bottle.

Benrinnes sits at the foot of the mountain of the same name near Aberlour and is owned by Diageo. The distillery has for decades sent almost all of its production into blends, and official bottlings are rare. That is why independent houses like this one are the most practical route to tasting the place.

That Boutique-Y numbers its releases in batches rather than stating cask numbers, and each batch is made only once. This one gave 241 bottles, and the 50 centilitre format is the house standard.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Barley, orange peel, apple and light nutmeg.

  • 1770 Glasgow Triple Distilled 5 cl miniature bottle, Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Glasgow Distillery
    Item no.: 222354523214-8

A third pass through the stills takes something away. That is the whole point. The heavy oily compounds are left behind, and what comes out is softer, lighter and cleaner at the edge. Five centilitres is plenty to hear the difference.

    The Expert's Description

1770 Glasgow Triple Distilled is a Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon and Virgin Oak casks and bottled at 46% in 5 cl format. The distillery calls it Smooth & Vibrant, and it is triple distilled, a technique that has all but vanished from Scottish malt production.

On the third distillation only the lightest and purest part of the spirit is collected, and the heavier fatty acids stay behind in the still. That gives a whisky with less oily body but more clarity in the fruit. The bourbon casks lay in vanilla and coconut, and a smaller proportion of Virgin Oak tightens things with spice.

The whisky is unpeated, non-chill filtered and free of colouring. The water comes from Loch Katrine and fermentation runs beyond 72 hours before distillation.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Bright and clean: lemon peel, white flowers and a hint of pear. Vanilla sits underneath as a soft floor, and there is a note of damp sponge cake. No smoke, no weight.

    Palate

Silky to begin, with cream, honey and fresh apple. Then a light chalky minerality arrives with a touch of white pepper from the oak. The body is lighter than in a double distilled malt but it is not thin.

    Finish

Short and clean. Vanilla, citrus and a final breath of malt. It disappears neatly without leaving bitterness.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972654

Benromach make whisky the way Speyside tasted before everything turned light and floral. A little peat smoke, plenty of sherry and a team of very few people doing it all by hand in a small building outside Forres.

    The expert's description

Benromach 10 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in first fill bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at 43 %.

The whisky matures in around eighty percent first fill bourbon casks and twenty percent first fill sherry casks, then spends a year in Oloroso Sherry casks where the two parts marry. It is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

The distillery was founded in 1898, closed in 1983 and stood silent for fifteen years until Gordon & MacPhail bought it and reopened in 1998. The stated aim was to recreate the Speyside style that existed before the 1960s — lightly peated malt, less steel, more handwork.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Rich sherry, nuts and old oak with charred casks and dark chocolate in the background. The peat smoke runs through it all as a thin thread.

    Palate

Sherry first, bourbon and port after in smaller measures. It is a classic recipe, and The Twelve is the BenRiach take on what a Speyside malt should taste like when nobody is trying to surprise anyone.

    The expert's description

BenRiach The Twelve 12 years is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured predominantly in sherry casks with a smaller share of bourbon casks and port casks and bottled at 46 %.

The bottling is the classic one in the core range of the house. The sherry carries the whisky with dark fruit and nut, the bourbon wood gives bright sweetness and vanilla, and the port casks lay a fruity edge on top without taking room from the sherry.

Forty-two years after the 1965 restart, BenRiach only became a brand in its own right in 2004. The Twelve belongs to the generation of bottlings assembled by Rachel Barrie after 2016, when the range was reshaped and built around fixed age steps.

    The expert's description

BenRiach The Smoky Ten 10 years is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in bourbon casks, Jamaican rum casks and virgin oak and bottled at 46 %.

The bottling uses the peated spirit of the distillery, made only in defined periods each year. Three cask types are involved: bourbon gives vanilla, Jamaican rum adds tropical fruit and sweetness, and virgin oak lays spice and structure on top.

The combination of smoke and rum wood is rare in Scotch whisky and makes the bottling an obvious way in for anyone wanting to try peated malt without starting on the heaviest Islay bottles. The smoke reads aromatic rather than medicinal.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh fruit, honey and toasted oak with an aromatic note of smoke on top.

    Palate

Fruit, aromatic smoky sweetness and toasted oak. The rum casks give a tropical edge that rounds the smoke off.

    Finish

Medium and warm with smoke, vanilla and a last touch of sweetness.

Jamaican rum is known for its powerful esters, the aroma compounds that give banana and pineapple. The casks carry part of that character into the whisky, which is why rum wood rarely goes unnoticed in a composition.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972592

If a distillery may send only one bottle out into the world, this is it. The Original Ten is the BenRiach signature written down, and everything else in the range relates to it in one way or another.

    The expert's description

BenRiach The Original Ten 10 years is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in bourbon casks, sherry casks and virgin oak and bottled at 43 %.

Three cask types is unusual for an entry bottle. The bourbon wood gives vanilla and bright fruit, the sherry adds sweetness and depth, and virgin oak lays spice and structure on top. The composition was created by Master Blender Rachel Barrie as part of the range overhaul that followed the Brown-Forman takeover.

There is a subtle suggestion of smoke in the whisky. BenRiach produces both unpeated and peated spirit, and a small share of the peated finds its way into the core bottling of the house without turning it into a smoky whisky.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh fruit, honey and toasted oak with a summer golden lightness.

    Palate

Ripe pear, nectarine and a fine malty sweetness. The casks work together rather than fighting for room.

    Finish

Almond and lightly spiced vanilla with small notes of smoke at the end.

  • Bottle of Isle of Fionia Adventurous Spirit 10 Year Single Malt Whisky from Nyborg Distillery, Funen
    Item no.: 22227865555-999

Ten years on a cask that once held sherry at an Islay distillery. That is an unlikely journey for an organic Funen whisky – and the result is a complex, winey Danish Single Malt Whisky at 59.9%.

    Expert description

Isle of Fionia Adventurous Spirit 10 Year is an organic Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 59.9% as part of the Adventurous Spirit series from Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery. In 2010 the whisky was placed in a used sherry puncheon that had previously been used at an Islay distillery. It rested there for 10 full years before being bottled in December 2020 in 298 bottles. The combined impression of Oloroso sherry, the Islay-connected cask character and the organic Funen distillate makes this bottling something near unique.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Rich and complex with ripe sherry sweetness, dark fruit and oak tannin. Winey depth and a hint of sea salt in the background – a discreet reminder of the cask's Islay connection.

    Palate

Full-bodied and intense at 59.9% with 10 years of integration. Sherry sweetness and dark fruit dominate – dried plums and figs – with an elegant oak spiciness. The cask's complexity reveals itself layer by layer.

    Finish

Long and meditative with lingering sherry sweetness and a discreet, dry oak close.

High. A 10-year Danish single malt from an award-winning distillery, bottled in 298 copies from an Islay-connected sherry puncheon – that is rare. Nyborg Distillery's oldest production draws increasing collector interest, and this bottling is a unique snapshot from 2010.

    Did you know?

A puncheon is a very large cask – typically 500 litres compared to a standard bourbon barrel's 200 litres. The large volume slows down the cask influence and creates a longer, softer maturation process. The combination of the large cask and 10 years of maturation creates a depth and integration characteristic of older single malts.

271 bottles, one cask, and sixteen years of quiet maturation in a Refill Hogshead that let the spirit speak for itself.

    Expert description

Teaninich 2004/2020 is a 16-year-old Single Highland Malt Whisky from independent bottler Lady of the Glen, distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2020 from cask no. 301139, a Refill Hogshead, at full cask strength of 53.2%.

This is a single cask release, meaning the entire run of 271 bottles comes from one and the same cask. This Limited Release is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and the nearly 16-year maturation in a refill cask has given the whisky plenty of flavour without letting the wood dominate too heavily.

The result is a whisky that still lets Teaninich's cereal-driven core character shine through, while the cask strength adds an extra dimension of body and intensity.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh cereal, green pears and a light honeyed sweetness.

    Item no.: 22227865423147347-007

Some bottles never get sent out into the world. They get made for one place only. This one was made for Denmark.

    Expert's Description

Bimber Denmark Edition Ex-Bourbon Cask is a Single Malt London Whisky from a single American ex-bourbon cask, cask no. 169, bottled at full strength at 58.7% ABV.

The bottle comes from Bimber's Country Collection, a series of twenty single casks the distillery selected in 2020 for twenty different countries, Denmark among them. Cask no. 169 was filled in May 2016, among the very first casks Bimber ever laid down, and was bottled in October 2020 in a limited run of 263 individually numbered bottles exclusively for the Danish market.

That makes this a genuine rarity: a single cask whisky never available anywhere outside Denmark, drawn from one of the casks that laid the foundation for Bimber's reputation.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet red fruits and creamy vanilla meet soft oak spice, green apples and a touch of caramel, giving the nose a fresh, slightly tart edge.

    Palate

Full-bodied and oily with ripe apple and baked pear, where caramel and warm vanilla tie the sharp bourbon spice together with a hint of honey.

    Item no.: 22227865423147347-004

There is something about a sherry cask that makes a whisky sing a little louder. Batch 3 of Bimbers Oloroso series is one of the clearest examples of why this London distillery has become a talking point among sherry-cask lovers.

    Expert's Description

Bimber Oloroso Cask Batch 3 is a Single Malt London Whisky, matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and finished in Spanish oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 51.4% ABV.

The batch consists of 980 individually numbered bottles, assembled from selected oloroso-finished casks from Bimber's own warehouse in west London. The distillery grows much of its own barley and floor malts it using traditional methods, giving the long sherry finish a rich foundation to build on.

Where earlier batches in the series have varied in intensity, Batch 3 stands out for its particularly silky texture and a focused, fruit-driven character that lets the oloroso casks shine without overpowering the spirit's own sweetness.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cinnamon rolls and freshly baked waffles sit with fresh and dried red berries, while ground ginger is tempered by creamy vanilla and a touch of lemon posset.

    Palate

A silky texture carries generous sherried notes of red berries, chopped banana and chocolate-dipped walnuts, while golden syrup and pineapple chunks meet cinnamon dusting and lightly scorched orange peel.

    Finish

The sherried sweetness lingers, supported by warm spice and a dry, lightly toasted finish where the scorched citrus notes return at the very end.

    Item no.: 22227865487-967

STOVT. An old Danish word for large and powerful. And yes – it suits the grain at the heart of this whisky. Thy Whisky No 13 STOVT is built on a historic Danish grain variety that was dominant in north Jutland agriculture before modern varieties took over.

    Expert description

Thy Whisky No 13 STOVT is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 51% in a 50 cl bottle. Distilled and matured at Thy Whisky Distillery in Thy. STOVT refers to a historic Danish barley variety, traditionally characterised as large and robust in its cultivation. In whisky the STOVT grain contributes a heavier, more flavourful grain character than standard malting barley.

Bottled in a 50 cl bottle at 51% – close to cask strength territory. No 13 is a numbered edition in Thy Whisky's series of experiments with local and historic grain varieties.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Heavy and grain-rich with a little chocolate, light nut and a deep malt sweetness. More substantial than the standard Core Expressions.

    Palate

    Item no.: 22227865413-11-10

Dialogos means conversation, and that's exactly what happens in this glass. Ten years of maturation talks down Octomore's raw strength, without ever falling silent.

    Expert description

Octomore Ten Dialogos is a super-peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Bruichladdich, matured for 10 years and bottled at 54.3%.

The whisky is peated to 208 ppm and matured in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon casks and fresh Virgin Oak casks. Although it carries one of the highest ppm counts in its series, it comes across as more restrained in smoke, precisely because ten years of maturation has rounded off the edges.

Distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2020, Dialogos shows how time can transform an extremely peated whisky without extinguishing its character.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Salt, honey and tropical fruit such as pineapple and mango, with the peat smoke sitting as a deep, earthy base.

    Palate

Rich and layered with sweet fruit and honey, giving way to a warm, lingering peat smoke and a touch of oak.

    Item no.: 22227875400-8963

Floor malting is not just a technique – it is a philosophy. Stauning Smoke Floor Malted is smoked West Jutland whisky built on the foundations of tradition.

    Expert description

Stauning Smoke Floor Malted Smoked Barley is a Danish Whisky bottled at 47%, made from floor-malted smoked barley. Stauning floor-malts its own grain – a traditional and labour-intensive method abandoned by most modern distilleries – and peats the barley with heather and oak chips from the West Jutland heathlands. The result is a gentle, fresh smoke with a clear connection to the West Jutland landscape.

The Floor Malted expression highlights the role of floor malting and the resulting depth it brings to the grain.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Gentle, fresh smoke with fruity notes of yellow apple and pear. A green, herbal hint from the heather and light vanilla from the oak.

Floor malting requires far more space and labour than industrial malting. Stauning is one of very few distilleries in the world to floor-malt 100% of their grain – a commitment that costs more but delivers a character you cannot replicate industrially.

  • Bottle of Stauning Bastard Mezcal Finish Research Series Danish Rye Whisky
    Item no.: 2227868400-2568

Stauning takes rye whisky to Mexico. Bastard Mezcal Finish is a Research Series edition that combines the spice of Danish rye malt with the smoky, earthy character of mezcal casks.

    Expert description

Stauning Bastard Mezcal Finish Research Series is a Danish Rye Whisky bottled at 46.3% in a 70 cl bottle. The whisky has been finished in mezcal casks – the cask type from the Mexican agave spirit – and is part of Stauning's Research Series, which is the distillery's laboratory for unconventional flavour profiles.

Bastard is Stauning's first expression for cask finishes outside the traditional Scotch and American cask register. The mezcal cask adds a smoky, earthy and slightly floral Mexican dimension to the spiced Jutland foundation of the rye. The result is unusual and memorable.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Citrus and sweet tobacco mixed with mild mezcal smoke and wild flowers. Complex and different.

    Palate

Soft and sweetly satisfying with rye spice and burnt caramel. The earthy note of the mezcal cask shines through.

    Finish

Spiced and lightly smoky with spicy notes and dried fruit.
