  • Monkey Shoulder blended malt whisky bottle
    Item no.: 22227865428-11

    Expert description

Mosgaard 8 Year Oloroso Cask 7 Sister Casks is an organic Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 58.2% from Mosgaard Distillery in Odense. The whisky has been matured for 8 years on Oloroso sherry casks as part of the 7 Sister Casks concept – a series where seven casks of the same type are bottled together as a batch, giving greater consistency and depth than a single cask alone. Oloroso is a dry sherry cask with a rich, nutty and fruity character, and 8 years of maturation gives this cask ample opportunity to integrate with the organic Funen distillate. Bottled in 50 cl format.

    Did you know?

The 7 Sister Casks concept at Mosgaard is based on the idea of bottling 7 casks of the same type together. Rather than highlighting a single cask – and thus a single character – Mosgaard blends the 7 casks into one batch expression. This gives greater consistency, more depth, and a more accessible entry point to the whisky than a single cask alone.

The distillery works exclusively with organic raw materials, including organic Danish barley from Gyrup Malteri, and won the award for Best Danish Distillery three years running at the Berlin International Spirits Competition (2019-2021). Quarter casks are smaller than standard barrels, giving the whisky greater contact with the wood and driving faster, more intense maturation.

Mosgaard 8 Year Whisky.dk 2026 PX Cask is an organic Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 58.5% exclusively for Whisky.dk in 2026. The whisky has been matured for 8 years on Pedro Ximenez sherry casks – a cask type derived from the PX grape in Jerez, which produces the sweetest and most intensive type of sherry. PX casks impart enormous amounts of sweetness, dark fruit and dried raisins to a distillate, and 8 years of contact delivers a deep and uncompromising cask influence. Bottled in 50 cl format.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Intensely sweet PX sherry with dried raisins, dark chocolate and cream. A nose that lingers before you even open the bottle. Rich and uncompromising.

    Palate

Full-bodied and intense at 58.5% with extreme sweetness from the PX cask. Raisins, dark plums and coffee notes from the rich sherry character. A drop of water is necessary for greater enjoyment.

    Finish

Very long and persistent with a dark, chocolatey sweetness and dried fruit at the close.

    Did you know?

Pedro Ximenez (PX) is a grape grown in the Jerez region of southern Spain. The grapes are sun-dried to raisins, concentrating the sugar content to the extreme. The resulting sherry is so sweet it is almost syrupy. A PX cask that has held this sherry transfers its dense sweetness directly to the matured distillate.

    Item no.: 222452-77785

Amontillado is the forgotten midfielder of the sherry universe. Not as sweet as PX. Not as dense as Oloroso. But more complex than both. Mosgaard has chosen it as a cask type in 50 cl – and the result is nut kernels, hazelnuts and a dry, long finish.

    Expert description

Mosgaard Amontillado is an organic Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 46.5% from Mosgaard Distillery in Odense. The whisky has been matured in Amontillado sherry casks – a sherry type that starts as Fino and continues ageing oxidatively into a complex, dry and nutty style. Amontillado casks give a character that differs clearly from the heavy sweetness of PX or Oloroso: here it is nuts, hazelnuts, wax and a dry, refined fruitiness. Bottled in 50 cl format.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dry hazelnut and waxy nuts with a light sulphury Fino background. Fresh and complex – far from the heavy sherry one might expect.

    Palate

Elegant at 46.5% with nut kernels, lightly salted caramel and a dry, lavender-spiced oak. Amontillado gives a refined dryness that liberates the distillate rather than dominating it.

    Finish

Long and dry with hazelnuts and an almost bitter, elegant oak tannin close.

    Did you know?

Amontillado sherry starts life as Fino – the lightest and driest sherry type. When a Fino loses its biological shield (la flor) and begins to oxidise, it completely changes character and becomes Amontillado: deep, nutty and refined. It is two wines in one bottle, and this gives a unique cask profile for whisky.

Port wine is a fortified wine from the Douro Valley in Portugal. Once port wine casks have given up most of their port character, whisky distilleries use them as finishing casks. Mosgaard uses port wine casks as part of their broad range of cask expressions – it is one of the softer and more fruity options in Mosgaard's palette.

Peat and bourbon are two things that don't always go hand in hand. But Mosgaard has done it – and batch number one is here. Peated malt meets the bourbon cask's vanilla and sweetness in an organic Danish expression at 48.4%.

    Expert description

Mosgaard Peated Bourbon Batch #1 is an organic Peated Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48.4% from Mosgaard Distillery in Odense. The whisky is the first batch in Mosgaard's Peated Bourbon series – peated malt matured in ex-bourbon casks. It is a combination that creates an interesting contrast: the smoke from the peat meets the sweet vanilla and caramel of the bourbon cask, and the result is a smoky expression with a softer, fruitier edge than typical peated whiskies matured in ex-sherry casks. Bottled in 50 cl format.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoky peat with the bourbon cask's sweet vanilla and caramel underneath. An interesting intersection of smoke and sweetness.

    Palate

Fresh smoke with bourbon vanilla, light citrus sweetness and grain in the background. The bourbon cask softens the peat and gives a more fruity and approachable smoke style.

Ex-bourbon casks are one of the most widely used cask types in the whisky world – but the combination with peated malt is relatively uncommon. Most peated single malts use ex-sherry casks to amplify the smoke. Mosgaard's Peated Bourbon Batch #1 does the opposite and gives the peat a light, fresh bourbon foundation instead of a dark, fruity sherry base.

Most of the world's best-known peated whiskies – from Islay and Scotland – use ex-sherry casks for finishing. The bourbon cask is rarer in the peated category. Myken Hungarian Dance 2020 is a Norwegian Single Malt Whisky, bottled at 47%, distilled at Myken, the world's first Arctic whisky distillery and Norway's only dedicated whisky distillery. The distillery was founded by Roar Larsen and his wife Trude Tokle, who in 2014 were sailing the Norwegian coast with their four children when bad weather pushed them onto the almost deserted island of Myken, barely 400 metres wide. At the time, only a handful of pensioners remained on the island. The family fell in love with the place and established a distillery that has since revived the island community. The whisky is distilled using desalinated seawater and matured in the distillery's warehouse, known as 'The Whisky Cathedral', where the Arctic climate's dramatic temperature swings drive a distinctive maturation.

On the remote Morvern peninsula, where Scotland's west coast is at its most inaccessible, Annabel Thomas built a distillery from the ground up, with every decision filtered through sustainability.

    Expert's Description

Nc'nean Huntress 2023 is an Organic Single Highland Malt Whisky from the Nc'nean distillery, bottled at 48.5%.

The Huntress series is built around a philosophy of discovery – forging your own path, inspired by the guiding star Neachneohain. For this 2023 edition, the distillery used four different yeast strains, including some borrowed from winemaking, resulting in an unusually complex flavour with caramel sweetness, forest berries and a touch of spice. Only 4,556 bottles were filled for worldwide release.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

    Palate

On the palate there is pepper and light tannin, while dark berries adds a final twist.

    Finish

The finish is lightly bitter and elegant.
