Port Charlotte 2013 PMC:01 is a peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, first matured in bourbon casks and later finished in French Pomerol wine casks, bottled at 54.5%.

Port Charlotte is Bruichladdich distillery's peated single malt, distilled on the same Victorian equipment on Islay's west coast as the distillery's unpeated core range, but taken to a far higher phenol level. PMC:01 is made from Concerto barley peated to 40 ppm and is the sixth bottling in the Cask Exploration series, where the distillery studies what different cask types do to the same peated spirit.

The whisky was distilled in 2013 and spent its first four years in first-fill bourbon casks, before being moved in 2017 into Pomerol wine casks from Bordeaux's Right Bank, one of the world's most sought-after red wine regions. It's the first time Port Charlotte spirit has been allowed to mature in this cask type, and the result is a whisky where salty Islay peat meets dark berries and tanned leather from the wine casks.

Reinheart Rye Whiskey Cask #2 2022 is a Danish Rye Whiskey at 56.8%, distilled in Germany in 2015 and bottled in December 2022 as a Single Cask from Cask #2, in a limited run of 250 numbered bottles. The mashbill is 70% rye, 20% corn and 10% malted barley. Matured in an American virgin oak cask (Toast M / Char 4) at Vintre Møller in Central Zealand, Denmark. Bottled by Hammer & Son. The founders of the project came up with the idea after a pub crawl in 2012, aiming to make a classic rye whiskey in the bourbon tradition.

Tasting notes

Nose

Fresh rye, vanilla and oak. Light spice notes — cinnamon, black pepper — with a soft honey character from the oak maturation.

Palate

Balanced and spicy. Rye dominates with its characteristic dryness, but the oak's vanilla and caramel are present. Marginally softer than Cask #3 at 56.8%.

Finish

Long and dry. The spice holds and the oak closes with a rounded note.

Henrik had an idea during a pub crawl in 2012: make a rye whiskey in the Kentucky bourbon tradition but with a Danish anchor. It took until 2022 to see the result. Cask #3 is one barrel from that journey — bottled at 59%.

The mashbill is 70% rye, 20% corn and 10% malted barley — a classic bourbon-inspired rye grain bill. The distillate was aged in an American virgin oak cask (Toast M / Char 4) at Vintre Møller in Central Zealand, Denmark. Bottled by Hammer & Son. This is a Danish-German co-production showing that Danish whisky need not be distilled in Denmark — but can be aged and bottled here.

Tasting notes

Nose

Palate

Intense and spicy. Rye's characteristic dryness and spice meet the oak's sweetness. Light fruit and caramel in the mid-palate, with a dry rye finish.

Finish

Long and dry with lingering spice and oak. The rye's fingerprint holds.
