To make it Michter’s take their US1 Kentucky Straight Rye at barrel strength and then age it for an additional period in a second custom barrel. This second barrel is assembled from 24 month air-dried wood and then toasted to their specifications. The result is a unique rye whiskey that they take pride in offering to you. Since the 1990’s, the Michter’s team has been doing pioneering work to re-establish the high quality American Rye whiskey category. The May 2015 inaugural release of Michter’s US1 Barrel Strength Rye marked yet another milestone in that quest. For maturation, the Rye distillate is entered into the barrel at 110.4 proof, rather than a more industry standard higher proof. Barrel entry at a lower proof of 110.4 rather than a higher proof costs Michter’s more money in terms of barrels and warehousing, but they believe it yields a richer, smoother, more full-bodied whiskey after proper maturation. A single barrel product, each barrel of Michter’s US1 Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at its particular alcohol level at the time of bottling. During the 1970s and 1980s, Michter’s Original Sour Mash Whiskey was the distillery’s single most popular product. While the “Sour Mash” moniker originated from the whiskey production process of the same name – whereby some previously fermented mash is used as the starter for the new mash to be fermented, much like making sourdough bread – Michter’s Original Sour Mash earned distinction for its unique taste. With its unique grain selection, it cannot be categorized as a rye or a bourbon. After disappearing from the market in 1989, Michter’s Original Sour Mash Whiskey made a triumphant return in 2012 with its introduction into the US1 line. Unlike Bourbon or Rye, which, by definition, must be aged in new oak barrels, their US1 Unblended American Whiskey is aged in a way that utilizes whiskey-soaked barrels to achieve a rich and unique flavor profile. In late 2013, then Master Distiller Willie Pratt agreed to re-release Michter's US1 Unblended American Whiskey after a nearly three-year absence from the market, deeming it “just right” and “the best it’s ever been.” Crucially, Michter's US1 Unblended American Whiskey never contains grain neutral spirits – hence its “unblended” distinction.

Miltonduff 40 Year Old – Adelphi Limited Edition is a remarkable single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland. It was distilled at the Miltonduff distillery and bottled by the independent bottler Adelphi, known for its uncompromising approach to quality and cask selection. The whisky was distilled in 1982 and bottled in 2023, giving it an impressive age of 40 years. It is bottled at cask strength, 50.4%, preserving its natural intensity and complexity. Only 224 bottles were released, making it an extremely rare and sought-after edition among collectors and enthusiasts.
This whisky was matured in a first-fill sherry hogshead, a type of cask that contributes deep and complex flavor notes. The color is pale gold, reflecting both its long maturation and the influence of the sherry cask. On the nose, it reveals mineral tones, paraffin, and oily lemon, creating an elegant and slightly old-fashioned aroma that speaks to its age and finesse.
The palate is rich and layered with notes of stewed fruits, citrus zest, and overripe figs, offering a sweet and fruity profile. Miltonduff 2007 from The Cooper’s Choice is a unique Speyside Single Malt Whisky with an alcohol strength of 51.1%. Distilled in June 2007 and bottled in 2020, this whisky has matured for 13 years and features a special finish in a cask that previously held Imperial Milk Stout from Spey Valley Brewery. The stout was aged in a former Bruichladdich cask, adding an extra layer of flavor to the whisky.
The whisky offers a complex and distinctive profile with notes of milk chocolate, green fruits, honey, and a subtle dusty aroma. The taste is rich and spicy with citrus and aromatic tones, while the finish highlights summer fruits, green nuances, vanilla, and mint chocolate.
