    Investment Potential

Medium. 25-year-old blends are rare, because both the malt and grain components must mature for the same length of time — making Isle of Skye 25 Years an unusual example within the category.

    Did you know?

Even though Isle of Skye is a blend, the philosophy is the same as for a single malt: nothing in the bottle is younger than the stated age, including the grain components.

    Expert description

Ezra Brooks 7 Year Mac Y Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey comes from a single, hand-selected barrel and has matured for 7 years, bottled at 57%. Ezra Brooks was founded in 1957 by Frank Silverman and was originally distilled at the Hoffman Distilling Company by two of Kentucky's most respected distilling families, first the Ripy family and later the Medley family. The brand changed hands several times over the years, most recently to Luxco in 2006, and since 2018 Ezra Brooks has been distilled at the family's own distillery, Lux Row Distillers, in Bardstown, Kentucky — known as the capital of bourbon.

  • Braunstein and Friends Festival Edition 2014 Gift Set bottle 20 cl
    Item no.: 5059796-166

Braunstein and Friends is more than a product name. It is a snapshot of a collaboration from 2014 — a festival expression that is peated, compact and historic in the sense that it will never be repeated. 20 cl of peated Braunstein from a gathering that is long past.

    Expert description

Braunstein and Friends Festival Edition 2014 Gift Set is a peated Danish Single Malt Whisky at 42%, bottled at 20 cl. The Festival Edition series from Braunstein Destilleri in Køge is released in connection with whisky festivals and is characterised by collaborative bottlings — hence "and Friends". The peated character comes from peated malt, which gives Braunstein's distillate a round, smoke-filled profile. 42% is an approachable strength that brings the smoke to the fore without overwhelming it.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Round smoke and light oak. Sweet malt under the smoke with a hint of sea air and damp stone. Braunstein's characteristic balance is present — this is not aggressive smoke, but a soft and inviting version.

    Palate

Light and approachable at 42%. Peated malt and soft smoke with sweetness from the oak maturation. Light spice and a touch of citrus.

    Finish

Shorter but warm. The smoke lingers and gives way to sweet malt and a lightly salted finish.

  • Glen Scotia 15 Year Old Version bottle with black label and gold lettering
    Item no.: 22227865365-299

Black label, gold lettering. That is how Glen Scotia 15 Year Old looked until the distillery changed design in June 2022 and moved to silver. The whisky inside follows the same recipe — it is the packaging that has become history.

    The expert's description

Glen Scotia 15 Year Old Old Version is a Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in American oak casks and bottled at 46%.

This is the bottling in the old design with a black label and gold lettering that Glen Scotia used until the summer of 2022. The whisky has spent fifteen years in 1st fill and refill American oak casks and is non-chill filtered. There is no sherry or wine cask in play, so it is the salty, oily character of the distillery that carries the bottle.

Glen Scotia has not had an easy history. The distillery was founded in 1832, and through the twentieth century it stood silent for several periods while the whisky industry in Campbeltown shrank from around thirty distilleries to three. That distilling continues in the town at all is down to equal parts stubbornness and luck.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Salted caramel and toasted vanilla, with ripe fruit and a layer of light spices. The citrus note only arrives after a couple of minutes, and beneath it all sits a sea-like tone.

    Palate

Full and spiced. Oak, dried fruit and honey, with a taut minerality in the middle. The smoke is held back and shows itself as a dry shadow rather than as peat.

    Finish

Long. Pepper and dark chocolate first, then a slow, salted close that lingers.

    Specifications

    Flavour profile

Maritime · Spiced · Fruity · Lightly peated · Salty

    Investment potential

Medium. The design with a black label and gold lettering was replaced in June 2022 and will not return. Label variants are a well-established collecting category, and a fifteen year old in the discontinued packaging is easier to place in time than most — bottles like that disappear quietly as the remaining stock is drawn down.

Glen Scotia sat so close to closure for decades that the distillery was run several times with a minimum of staff. The plant is still one of the smallest in Scotland by output, and some of the equipment is older than many of the distilleries that closed around it.

  • Penderyn Icons of Wales The Village bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 222397-2243434

There's a village in Wales that looks like no other village in Wales — built by an eccentric architect as a postcard from Italy, planted right on the Welsh coast. A hundred years after it was born, Penderyn has given it its own bottle.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 14 The Village is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky finished in Amarone casks and bottled at 46%. The bottle honours Portmeirion, the Italian-inspired village on the North Wales coast, designed by architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis and founded in 1926 — and The Village launched in 2026 to mark the village's 100th anniversary, unveiled at a tasting held in Portmeirion itself.

The Amarone casks, Italian red wine from the Veneto region, are a deliberate nod to Portmeirion's own Italian inspiration. They lend the whisky a sweetly fruity, spiced character that layers over Penderyn's clean, light spirit from the Faraday still.

Portmeirion is perhaps best known as the filming location for the cult British TV series The Prisoner in the 1960s, and its status as one of Wales's most photographed places makes it a natural centrepiece for the Icons of Wales series.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers ripe fruit, spiced oak, vanilla, cocoa and honey in a dense, sweet layer.

    Palate

The palate is rich with red berries and ripe plums, spice, honeyed sweetness and a touch of florals.

    Finish

The finish is long, with candied fruit, spiced oak and a light tannin from the wine casks.

    Item no.: 222397-2243433

For two decades, Cardiff has been the place where time travel and adventure get filmed. Now the city's best-known production company has its own whisky — ten years old, matured in port pipes that have seen a lifetime of history themselves.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 13 Bad Wolf 10 Years is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky fully matured in tawny port casks and bottled at 46%. The bottle marks the 10th anniversary of Bad Wolf Studios, the Cardiff-based production company behind series such as Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, Merlin and His Dark Materials, and it was released alongside Penderyn's own 25th anniversary in 2025.

The port pipes the whisky has matured in are around 60 years old and previously held port for decades, giving it a deep, full-bodied character. It's one of the more mature releases in the Icons of Wales series, where both the age and the cask choice set it apart from its younger, fresher siblings in the range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers orange blossom and rose petal, alongside fruitcake, raisins and fig jam, with a touch of red berries.

    Palate

The palate is deep with stewed dark fruit and toffee, marzipan and a bittersweet orange marmalade that builds on the fruitcake character from the nose.

    Finish

The finish lands on dried apricot, salted caramel and a warm nutmeg spice that lingers.

    Expert description

Tamnavulin Spanish Grenache Edition is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in American oak casks and finished in Spanish Grenache wine casks, bottled at 40%.

West Jutland does not smell of iodine and hospital. It smells of smoke from the malt lofts, of dune pines and sea air. That is what Stauning set out to capture when they lit the peat and made RØG – a Danish smoked whisky with a voice of its own.

    Expert description

Stauning RØG Smoked Double Malt is a Danish Whisky bottled at 43%, made from a blend of floor-malted, peated barley and unpeated malt. Stauning Whisky was founded in 2005 in Skjern, West Jutland. RØG is the distillery's take on smoked whisky – not an imitation of heavy, medicinal Islay profiles, but a lighter, fruitier smoke style rooted in West Jutland terroir. Matured in a combination of 1st fill bourbon and sherry casks.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft, fruity smoke with green apple and vanilla cream. The smoke is present but restrained – it does not impose itself.

    Palate

Light and fruity with smoke as a constant supporting note. Pear, soft toffee and a hint of citrus peel. More sweet than sharp.

Vesterhav is named after the North Sea that characterises the coast and climate of northwest Jutland – and reflects the broad, open nature of Thy in its flavour profile.

Islay smoke wrapped up in something you can hand over. The same whisky as the standard Cask Edit, but delivered in a box with a metal hip flask, which makes it a gift with something to drink and something to keep.

    The expert description

Elements of Islay Cask Edit is an Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky matured in bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at 46%.

This version is sold in a gift box together with a metal hip flask. The whisky in the bottle is identical to the standard release, so you get no more and no less in the glass, but the packaging is what makes the difference when the bottle is being given away.

Cask Edit is the most approachable bottling in the range. Elixir Distillers has assembled it from smoky Islay malts matured in both bourbon and sherry casks, and the result is a clean, salted coastal smoke rounded off by sweetness, vanilla and fruit from the wood. It is bottled without chill filtration and without added colour.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft peat smoke and sea spray, a light mineral edge, and vanilla, citrus and pale fruit behind it.

    Palate

Well balanced. Smoke and ash meet caramel, candied fruit and malt, with a discreet sherry sweetness as counterweight.

  • Deanston 17 years Orange Wine Cask Finish bottle in warm amber
    Item no.: 2222461-229

Vino de Naranja is an Andalusian speciality made from sun-dried orange peel and matured in solera. Putting it on a seventeen year old Highland malt is not something many had thought of.

    Expert description

Deanston 17 years Orange Wine Cask Finish is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured fifteen years in ex-bourbon casks with a final finish in Vino de Naranja casks and bottled at 53.6% without chill filtration and without added colouring.

Deanston has occupied a converted cotton mill at Doune since 1966 and has never followed the crowd. The first fifteen years in bourbon wood give the honeyed depth and waxy texture the house is known for. The whisky is then moved into casks from Vino de Naranja, a Spanish orange wine made from sun-dried peel and aged in a traditional solera system.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Orange peel and honey first, then dried apricot, vanilla and a warm spiced note. A lightly bitter citrus note sits under the sweetness.

    Palate

Full and concentrated. Marmalade, honey and malted barley, with a dry orange edge from the finish and a peppery warmth from the strength. The wax from the bourbon casks is still clear.

    Finish

Long and dry, with orange, spice and a faintly bitter peel note that lingers.

Dark, concentrated and with Bowmore's maritime DNA wrapped in layers of sherry sweetness. Devil's Cask Batch II is the release many consider the most harmonious of the series — and when you open a bottle, it becomes clear why.

    Expert's description

Bowmore Devil's Cask 10 Year Small Batch Release II is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and bottled at 56.3%. The second release in the legendary Devil's Casks series — one of the most sought-after sherry bomb expressions from Islay. Released in 2014, it was quickly snapped up by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Matured for 10 years in a combination of first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, giving an extremely deep, dark and intense flavour profile. Bottled at 56.3%, it delivers a powerful, concentrated experience where Bowmore's smoky and maritime DNA meets massive sherry sweetness. Batch II is regarded by many as one of the most harmonious releases in the series and stands today as a modern classic.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark fruits, raisins, dates and burnt sugar with dark chocolate. Behind it, warm spiced smoke from Islay's peat — everything filtered through the depth of Pedro Ximénez sweetness.

    Taste

Thick and rich. Treacle, dark berries and Christmas cake spice. The sherry intensity is extraordinary; peat announces itself beneath the fruit and chocolate layers.

    Finish

Very long and warming. Dark chocolate, espresso and a trail of coastal smoke that slowly fades. The PX sweetness lingers well after the peat has gone.

Only 6,000 bottles. The first batch. Released in 2013 and gone almost immediately. Bowmore The Devil's Cask Batch I is not just a whisky — it's the beginning of a series that set the standard for what Islay and sherry can do together.

    Expert's description

Bowmore The Devil's Casks 10 Year Small Batch Release I is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in first-fill sherry casks and bottled at 56.9%. Released in 2013 as the first expression in the Devil's Casks Small Batch Release series — only 6,000 bottles were produced, making it a collector's favourite almost immediately. Matured for 10 years in first-fill sherry casks, which give an unusually deep and intense flavour profile for the age. Bottled at 56.9%, preserving both the richness and complexity of the cask. Often cited as one of Bowmore's most successful modern sherry bombs — intense, deep and memorable. A bottle that marks the beginning of one of Islay's most celebrated limited release series.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Rich sherry notes: dark fruits, raisins and plums with dark chocolate and warm peat smoke. Dense and concentrated from the first-fill sherry influence.

    Taste

Powerful and dark with sherry sweetness, dried fruit, Christmas cake and a bold peat backbone. The first-fill sherry casks give a depth that is almost viscous.

Virgin Oak was Deanston's first attempt at doing something unexpected with the house honey. This bottle predates the redesign — same idea, older packaging.

    Expert description

Deanston Virgin Oak Old Version is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in traditional oak casks with a final maturation in new American oak casks and bottled at 46.3% without chill filtration and without added colouring.

The release comes from an earlier version of Virgin Oak, which Deanston later gave a new design. The idea is unchanged: fresh, untreated casks lift the pale, fruity and naturally honeyed house style with spice and vanilla sweetness. Deanston has distilled in a converted cotton mill by the River Teith since 1966 and uses no peat at all.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Clean, fresh and inviting. Citrus, malt, vanilla and lightly spiced oak, with touches of honey, fresh apples and a mild nutty note.

    Palate

Soft but lively. Vanilla, caramel, citrus and pale fruit, where the virgin oak casks contribute warm spice, a hint of pepper and a creamy sweetness.

    Expert description

The Gauldrons Batch 5 is a Campbeltown Blended Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46.2% ABV, assembled by independent whisky merchant Douglas Laing from selected malt whiskies distilled in the Campbeltown area.

The series takes its name from The Gauldrons, a rocky shoreline near Campbeltown, and each batch brings together the best of the region's spirit in a fresh, limited release. Batch 5 is the fifth edition in the line, and as with previous batches the exact composition shifts as new casks are selected.

The casks chosen for the blend are picked specifically to highlight Campbeltown's classic maritime style, where sea air and coastal maturation leave a clear mark on the whisky.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh sea air and a touch of seaweed meet sweet honey and a light streak of vanilla cream.

    Palate

    Expert description

The Gauldrons Batch 2 is a Campbeltown Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Douglas Laing, assembled purely from malt whisky sourced from Campbeltown distilleries and bottled at 46.2% ABV.

The name Gauldrons refers to the dark, storm-battered coves on Campbeltown's west shores, whose name roughly translates to "bay of storms", and the bottle's spiderweb design nods to the legend of Robert the Bruce, who after a defeat was inspired to keep fighting by a spider building its web in this very bay.

Batch 2 is the second release in the series and, like the first, is bottled in small batches with no added colouring and no chill filtration, preserving the whisky's raw, maritime character.

Douglas Laing was founded in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing and is today carried on by the third generation of the family, with Cara Laing a central figure following a split of the company in 2013.

    Tasting notes

    Expert description

Deanston 18 years Batch 3 Old Version is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in American bourbon casks and bottled at 46.3% without chill filtration and without added colouring.

A fire on the beach, marshmallows on a stick and two chocolate biscuits to press them between. Elixir Distillers has carried the American s’mores tradition over to Islay and built a festival whisky on top of it.

    The expert description

Elements of Islay Campfire Feis Ile 2025 is an Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky matured in sherry casks, bourbon casks and toasted new oak and bottled at 54.5%.

The bottle was made for Fèis Ìle 2025, the annual whisky and music festival on Islay, and holds whisky from three different Islay distilleries. Which three is not revealed. The flavour target, by contrast, is entirely specific: the whole release is built to land on s’mores, with smoke, burnt sugar and chocolate arriving in the same mouthful.

To get there, Elixir Distillers worked with three types of wood. Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry casks deliver the dark sweetness, 1st fill bourbon casks give vanilla and body, and toasted new oak contributes the burnt, almost caramelised edge. The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Pronounced smoke straight away, then ginger, dark chocolate, burnt caramel and candied orange.

    Palate

Intense and powerful. The notes from the nose return, but tighter and sweeter, with toasted marshmallow, sooty chocolate and a rich, almost syrupy texture.

  • Deanston Virgin Oak 2023 Cask Strength Batch 1 bottle
    Item no.: 222-724333

New oak is whisky's hard school. The cask has never held anything before, so it gives everything it has at once — spice, vanilla and tannin, unfiltered.

    Expert description

Deanston Virgin Oak 2023 Edition Cask Strength Batch 1 is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and subsequently in new American oak casks, bottled at cask strength of 58.5% without chill filtration and without added colouring.

Virgin oak means casks that have never held spirit or wine before. They give a far stronger cask influence than refills, which is why they are typically used only for a shorter finishing period. This release is the first batch of Deanston's Virgin Oak at cask strength, which makes both the spice and the house honey markedly more concentrated than in the standard version.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Powerful vanilla and coconut, with cinnamon, honey and a warm note of freshly planed oak.

    Palate

Dense and spiced. Vanilla, caramel and malted barley, with pepper and a dry tannic edge from the new wood. The cask strength pushes it all forward without turning sharp.

    Finish

Long and warm, with spice, vanilla and a dry oak close.

    Investment potential

Medium. The first batch of Virgin Oak at cask strength, released as a 2023 edition. First numbers in a series usually become hard to find fastest.

    Did you know?

New oak casks cost many times what a used bourbon cask does. That is why virgin oak is almost always used as a finish rather than for full maturation — few distilleries can afford to leave whisky for decades in wood nobody has used before.

  • Bottle of Isle of Fionia Sjæl PX Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky from Nyborg Distillery
    Item no.: 22155-89698

Sjæl means soul in Danish. When organic Danish malt meets a cask full of Pedro Ximénez sherry, something happens that goes beyond the technical. A whisky that tastes like it means it.

    Expert description

Isle of Fionia Sjæl PX Cask Finish is an organic Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Distilled at Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery in the historic DSB train depot in Nyborg, Funen, the whisky first matured in ex-Bourbon casks before undergoing a finish in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. PX sherry is one of the densest and sweetest sherry styles, produced from semi-dried grapes, and its casks leave a deep sweetness of raisins, figs and dark chocolate in the whisky. Bottling without chill filtration preserves the natural fatty acids that give body and a slight haze.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Deep and sweet with a clear layer of PX sherry: dark raisins, plums and a hint of dark chocolate. Underneath lies the Bourbon sweetness from the first casks – vanilla and caramel.

    Palate

Full-bodied and persistent with concentrated fruit sweetness. Figs, dates, slowly drifting orange peel and a warm, lightly tannic finish from the oak. The body is elegantly heavy.

    Finish

Long and sweet with lingering notes of dark fruit and a discreet spiciness that slowly fades.

    Did you know?

Pedro Ximénez is made from grapes dried on mats under the Andalusian sun until the juice concentrates. The result is a sherry so dense and sweet it can almost be eaten with a spoon – and the casks it was stored in are among the most sought-after by whisky distilleries worldwide.
